Why would the battery light and ABS light come on in my '99 cavalier?

The ABS light is most likely on because of low voltage, same reason for the battery light to be on. Get your alternator tested.

What could the squeaking coming from under the front end of your 95 Eddie baurer be also you had the bushings replaced two years ago?

The squeak possibly could be tierods. My '98 Mercury had a bit of a squeak coming from under the front and I figured it to be just old car sounds coming on. The steering started getting a bit tight and shaky, from there I was told the steering trouble was undiagnosable, but the tirods needed replacement and the squeaking was what alerted them to that. I went to a different mechanic to have that fixed and they told me the steering trouble was definitely related to the tierod. After they replaced that the squeak and steering trouble was gone.

What does it mean when you sometimes smell something burning when you get out of the car on the drivers rear side?

I had that happen on a grand am and it was a bad wheel cylinder on the drivers side wheel in the back and it was leaking fluid and the brake pads were sticking and burning and really never realized it until the snow fell and the rear wheel would lock up when I hit the brake.

How do you replace the alternator on a 1995 Chevy Cavalier?

Disconnect the battery terminals

Make note of the serpentine belt routing so that you can put it all back.

Using a 1/2 inch breaker bar in the hole of the tensioner arm, back off the pressure enough to get the belt off the alternator.

Disconnect the electrical plugs and all other wires making note of where things go.

Remove the bolts holding the alternator in place.

Put the replacment alternator back in place going in reverse order of the above.

How come the fuse for the cigarette lighter in Chevy cavalier keeps blowing out how can that be fixed?

You might be pulling too much power through the cigarette lighter. Also the cigarette lighter may grounding out for some reason or another. If the car has an aftermarket stereo, whoever installed it may have miswired it.

How do you fix a passenger seat that won't move forward or backwards on a 1999 Chrysler Sebring JXI?

This is for the manual passenger seat only! This area is hard to see/discover with the seat installed. I used a mirror and looking under the back of the seat/bottom you can see a 'Flipper'(one right and one left actually), it's easy to see how they move while operating the bar in the front. These 'Flippers' have 3 short rods per track that they pull toward the middle line of the seat. I say they look like nails since in any position at least one(1)of them will not be all the way down and will stick up looking like a nailhead, but the other two will(usually) be down. I have found that these Flippers get bent out of shape and cannot retract these "nails" all the way toward the centerline of the seat. Rebend these flippers so that they can fully retract the nails. If you are just trying to get the seat to move so you can get it out of the car, looking under the back of the seat, locate these flippers and pry them so that they draw/pull all of their(3)nailheads toward the centerline of the seat. When all three nailheads on each side are equal "height" the seat should be moveable. Now if I could only figure out why the seatbelts are fully retracted into the seat and won't release! But I'm betting I'll figure this one out this morning! I think an application of voltage(car battery) to the orange and the black wire is the cure. We shall see!(cue: evil laugh)"MUUAHA-HA-HA-HA-HA!"

What can cause a gas gauge not to function on a cavalier?

I heard on a reputable tv news report a couple years ago that if you overfill your tank , you know continue to fill after the nozzle automatically shuts off, to top off or round up that extra dollar, that the extra amount of gas causes the float to go above and beyond what the manufacturer designed and has the system calibrated for, overextending it , which can cause it to stick altogether in that position or can give faulty readings and stick intermittently, or cease to function. The repairs are costly because this all goes on inside the tank, and as they are read by computer, you are talking extra money to have recalibrated. It can also make a check engine light come on.

How do you remove powered antenna mast from Mitsubishi Eclipse?

I removed the entire power antenna assembly and could not find any way possible to separate the mast from the motor assembly. Odd, since Mitsubishi sold me an antenna mast.

How do you replace the drivers side window on a Chevy Cavalier?

AnswerI did this a few years ago with my 2-door 1994 Cavvie, and the job isn't that difficult. I was able to do it in a few hours. You can save quite a bit of money by buying a used window from a junkyard.

Remove the window crank, if applicable. There is a tool for this that is available in auto parts stores.

Remove the interior door panel. There are screws along the bottom edge of the panel, up the sides, and in the door handle. There might be one where the mirror knob comes through, I think you have to take that out too. There is a tool that pops these push-in tree plugs that hold the interior skin to the door, in a pinch you can pry them out with two flathead screwdrivers on either side of the plug.

Unplug the power lock switch, if applicable.

Place the window crank back on the cam without the spring installed. This will enable you to remove it again easily. Crank the window into is fully lowered position.

You will find screws that hold the glass to the regulator (the piece that moves the glass up and down). Remove these.

Take a shop vac and clean out all the broken glass, if you have broken glass to remove.

Insert the new window between the window moldings. Be sure to align the edges into the track as you lower it into the door. Line up the bottom of the window into the regulator and slide the rearmost edge into the rear track firmly.

Tighten the bolts that hold the glass in the regulator, but DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN OR THE GLASS WILL SHATTER IN YOUR HAND.

Test the operation of the window with the crank on, and then reassemble the door.

What does it mean when you accelerate from a dead stop and the car makes a grinding noise for a couple of seconds?

It sounds to me like you might have a brake shoe dragging. Try coasting to a stop and then accelerate and see if the noise is still there. The noise could be from a front shoe that is hanging up when pressure is applied to stop the car. It could be caused by a bad caliper piston or warped rotors. Kind of a hard problem to diagnose but sounds like the most probable cause is in the brake system. Hope this helps
