The low pressure fitting (service port) in on the suction / low pressure hose (the larger hose between the dash and the compressor) since you are using 134a equipment the low charge fitting will olny fit the low size service port. Mark K-------Raleigh, NC

Using a set of a/c gauges put the blue hose on the low side (suction side) and the red hose on the high side (discharge side) and make sure that there is no freon in the system and if you have freon in the system then you will have to go to an automotive a/c shop and have them reclaim it for you.. Put the yellow hose on your vacuum pump and let it run for about 1 hour and then let it sit for 1 hour so that you can see if it will at least hold the vacuum pulled. If so then let it run for an additional hour and then start the recharging process remembering to keep the low side readings between 30 to 40psi and the high side between 200 to 250psi depending on the outside temperature…………….

Does the check engine soon light come on? If so, have the computer scanned for trouble codes (for free at auto zone in the USA) If a spark control code comes up, try changing your crank position sensor.

It may be losing engine compression because of a blown gasket, or just simply needs a tune up (new spark plugs, wires, distributor cap).

Well your first Problem is that 96 Lumina's ain't got carburetors bud a back fire can be from many things, check your codes and see what it says !!! if all is ok, then you may have a bad crank sensor. it controls the vehicles timing.

Obtain a shop manual, disconnect the negative battery cable, put the rear of the car safely in the air, WD or Kroil the fuel lines to ease removal, be certain the exhaust system is clear of the tank. Otherwise remove what exhaust components (generally only the intermediate pipe) are in the way of lowering the tank. Siphon fuel out of the tank to make it as light as possible. Disconnect the fuel lines, fill line & return lines, disconnect the electrical connector. Place a full floor jack with a 12"X12" board between the jack & the tank. Apply pressure. Unbolt the support straps from the body at the rear of the tank. Swing the straps clear. Check the perimeter of the tank making Shure it is clear of wiring, lines & anything that may prevent it from being lowered. Gently lower the jack, supporting the tank upright. Be careful NOT to bump the sending unit in any jarring way! It is sensitive & will not accurately give measure to your fuel gauge. I have had shops even mess this up. Now I have two cars with a quarter tank that are really empty! Needless to say I do my own work since you don't always get what you pay for. Sometimes in the automotive realm you just pay!

Slide the tank from under the car. Drain the rest of the fuel in a gas can. Using a brass (won't create sparks) chisel & hammer tap the notch on the pump assembly to slide the ring to unlock it. Remove the assembly, disconnect the pump from the connector. Place the new pump on the connector along with a new strainer. Check the condition of the tank. Remove rust with a brass wire brush. If you want to treat for rust now is a good time. Paint, POR 15 or rubber undercoating will help to seal moisture from the metal thereby halting rust. Reassemble the pump assembly into the tank. Put it all back together reversing above. Git 'er done :)

you can go to any auto parts store and buy a clip removal tool to remove handle. this tool will remove the c clip so you can remove handle. heres another way, but it takes longer. put a clean rag between door and back of handie, move the rag back and forth. when the rag makes contact with the clip, it should pop it off or far enough to remove handle. to put handle back on door. push the clip on the handle and push handle back on door good-day !

If this is similar to the 92 the the low side valve is under the air filter box. Remove the two bolts holding that. It is r134 freon. Add enough so the dryer under the filter box begins sweating. If it leaks out again in less than 3 months you might ought to find the leaking component - tho a can of r134 every three months is tolerable. There is a leak stopper available for small leaks.

Update: Just performed this on my 1998 Chevy Lumina. The valve is still under and behind the air filter box on the driver's side of the vehicle. You can see it without removing the box, but to attach the r134 can, you will almost definitely have to remove the box to have any room to work. There are two valves down there. The low pressure one is the larger diameter metal pipe that is underneath the smaller pipe.
