If you mean the spider bearings inside the CV joints, those actually come with the new joint (or CV axle assembly). Usually it's easier and more economical to buy an entire CV axle assembly (comes with the shaft and inner and outer joints). If you were referring to the wheel bearings, it's not absolutely necessary to change those unless they are worn. Interestingly, the front wheel bearings on the 1994-1997 Honda Accords is not a very commonly replaced item; not because they never wear out, but rather because the wheel HUBS typically require replacement rather than the bearings. In many cases, the splines of the wheel hub tend to be the problem when they become seized to the splines of the CV joint. If you find you do need a hub, then it is advised to replace the wheel bearings at the same time. The wheel bearing and hub are sold separately... OEM wheel hub is around $160, and the wheel bearing about $70.

When there is excess play or movement in the joint. Wheels must be off the ground to check this.

A chevy 3500 truck is not front wheel drive, so it does not have CV joints.

If your C/V boots are torn, it is far preferable to replace the entire C/V shaft assembly, as it is both easier and cheaper. C/V boot repair kits don't work well, and actually replacing a C/V boot requires removing the shaft anyway. If the boot has split it is likely that dirt and moisture has entered the joint and caused wear already.

Because of the complexity of this kind of job, it is strongly suggested that you buy a repair manual that explains it in detail. You need to loosen the axle nut with the car on the ground, raise the car, remove the wheel, unbolt the lower ball joint, tie rod end stud, strut lower through bolts, remove the brake caliper, then you can tap the CV shaft stud back and pull the spindle assembly free of the CV shaft. The driver side CV shaft can then be popped out of the transmission. The passenger side CV shaft has a carrier bearing with three bolts holding the shaft to the bearing. Do not try to take the bracket off the engine, it is not necessary. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Need to know how much is so much. A 1974 Chevy 3/4 ton 4X4 with the 350 engine probably got 10 to 12 mpg brand new. That's the way they were designed.

It sounds like it has whats called bump steer. You need to have the camber of the front wheels checked by steering specialist.

I think you mean axle shaft joint. A crunching noise, especially when turning corners suggests bad axle shaft joints.

On some vehicles, the abs tone ring (what the sensor reads) is on the cv shaft.

If the struts are gone, the vehicle will bottom out easily and will tend to continue to bounce after giving a corner of the vehicle a hard shove downward. The vehicle will tend to roll more in corners as a result and will not handle as well as it should.

Well, it depends, they can last 1 mile to 1000 miles. It all depends if the boot is ripped or not. if the joint itself is going without contamination of the joint itself you can go a little longer but if you have a ripped boot and the lube and grease is contaminated I recommend you get it replaced fairly quickly. You cannot really put a time frame on how long these things actually will last but what you can do is get a new one and be worry free. If you go without getting it fixed I can tell you a few consequences. The unit will completely fail and when this happens, you will be stranded since you now have no means of propulsion, the differential and transmission will not allow the car to be powered by a single wheel. You will lose your parking brake and your car will essentially be in Neutral. If you are traveling at higher speeds the cv joint can tear up the internals of your engine, jacking up repair costs, and in some RARE occasions it can cause the wheel to Lock up, which could cause you to lose control and wreck your car. You can get a new CV joint for $75-150 I recommend a higher quality lifetime warranty part!

Not sure what is causing your problem, but I had problem like yours and it had to do with the rotor mounting bracket and CV axle bolts. Tighten the nut on your axles in the middle of the hubs. This might fix your problem. If you need more help. Visit vfaq.com or dsmsournce.com for my help. Kendel

Most shaft gaiters are available in a two part kit. The two halves are placed around the shaft and then glued together. I was astounded when my garage replaced a split gaiter in about ten minutes, after I had spend days trying to find a special tool to stretch the gaiter over the end of the shaft !!

You need to know if it's got ABS front brakes or not...however, the ABS CV joint will work on the non-abs vehicle. Remove the wheel, brake caliper & strut mount. Unbolt whatever needs to be unbolted to swing the the spindle out to allow the shaft to be pulled. Near the transmission there is a locking collar..if I recall...this must be loosened / removed too. The CV shaft pulls straight out, but may take sume pursuding...look at the replacement & you will see. It wasn't that tough, but you need all the standard tools for front-end work..
