Distributors and Distributor Caps

Distributors and distributor caps are components of an ignition system. Most internal combustion engines use these to deliver high voltage sparks into the engine in the correct firing order, which in turn creates combustion.

When setting ignition timing on ford 302 5.0 engine does the rotor need to pointing to the number one on the distributor cap?

If you are setting the timing with a timing light then it don't matter where the rotor is pointing.

But if you are putting the Distributor in then yes. When it is in, It must be pointing to

#1 on cap so vaccume advance don't hit the thermostat housing when you adjust the timing with a light.

Does anyone know what direction to place the plugs on the distributor cap for a 81 ford 302 v8?

The distributor turns anticlockwise. The firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 with, numbering from the front, 1-2-3-4 on the left side and 5-6-7-8 on the right. Remove sparkplug #1 and loosely fit a cork in its place. Hand rotate the engne to TDC mark on the lower pulley. When the cork 'pops' #1 cylinder is ready to fire. Look inside the distributor cap, thr rotor is pointing toward where plug lead 1 fits. Follow the firing order counter clockwise from there. The lesson is change the leads one-at-a-time in future! How would you remove an old rusted tailpipe that's broken off at the point where it goes into the muffler?

Heres how i eventually did it ... 1. Using needle nose locking pliers i held the pipe to the muffler so that it wouldnt get knocked back into the muffler. 2. Then using a cold chisel i made a gap between the muffler (the part that houses the pipe) and the pipe. I did this so that the pipe could be cut through without also cutting the muffler. 3. Then using a power saw with a metal cutting blade i cut through the tailpipe. 4. Then I was the able to crimp the edges of the pipe up and pull it out. 5. Have a beer for a job well done !!!

How can you locate wholesale distributors?

You must buy wholesale products DIRECTLY from the wholesale supplier. Anyone who gets in between you and the actual wholesale supplier for any reason is costing you money. These are called "Middlemen", even if they claim not to be. Middlemen want you to think they are Wholesalers. They are NOT. They charge unsuspecting retailers monthly fees and even increase the true wholesale price. All of this means you pay too much for wholesale products, and your competition will always beat you.

"REAL Wholesalers never charge monthly fees, and will always give you TRUE wholesale pricing. Successful Product Sourcing means working directly with the real source." What kind of wholesale products are you looking for? There are many wholesalers selling different kinds of products. To search for a particular product from a wholesale supplier I would suggest you do a search at the B2B websites and free business directories. You can also find some wholesalers at Ebay.com == == In order to find what you are looking for you need to answer a few questions.

Do you have a state reseller Tax I.D. # ?

If not depending on which state you live in it is possible to file for an Excise Tax I.D. you can usually find those numbers in the phone book or you may check with your local chamber or congress they can get you started at least. Arkansas ID's I believe cost me less than $60.00, but you must file taxes or like myself I found out they will send an agent out to knock on your door at 8 a.m. if you forget to file taxes!!

Try to Google or search for national markets. Example is one in Dallas at The World Trade Center in Dallas. Their is also one in Atlanta, Kansas City, KS. In the Merchandise Mart out by Overland Park, KS. anyway these are markets where wholesalers and Sales Reps meet with people in their sales territory to sale them anything they can. (My parents still work at the Dallas Market, which just ended this week of 09/16/2007) But as you guessed it you must have a state excise or resellers I.D. to attend or to order products. No Exceptions (.)

You might also try to google or search drop-shippers. Which is great. They usually sale at wholesale or a lil above and you have the suggested retail Price but basically you can decide what to sell those products sell for, then you simply order from you and have them ship to your customer and you of coarse get all the extra dollars over what you payed or wholesale cost. Cool huh? No waiting in Line at Post office ever or other shippers.

Well I hoped I have shed some light on how to find a wholesaler and remember wholesalers are people doing a job for the wealthy bosses so be nice, smile and buy alot, Sales reps usually only make a small Percent of your total order I hope you have a credit history or cash works best, but they will do a credit check before doing business with you and verify you have a excise Tax Number from your state and are in good standing. You will need a business license and a number, then look online for wholesalers that deal in your products. There are many sources on the Web for finding Wholesale products, but most of them are Scams. To find a legitimate Wholesale supplier of goods, you ultimately need an eBay Certified, Better Business Bureau backed product sourcing agent! Selling products on the Internet is not easy if you do not have the proper sourcing tools. Having the right information and products to sustain a proper business plan is all part of forming your solution. Another good way to find legitimate wholesale merchandise for your store or flea market business is to review trade magazines for the industry. A well established magazine called Retailers Forum Magazine has been published monthly since 1981 and features ads from real wholesale merchandise suppliers as well as articles and information on running a business. They offer a free digital copy to everyone interested. The company also has a variety of books and directories to help new and established business owners as well. There is also a magazine for online wholesale buyers at Webwholesalermagazine.com and Wholesalecentral.com/wholesale-news

Is there an internal advance mechanism in a 1992 43l distributor?

all distributors have some kind of centrifugal advance, you will be able to see if you take the distributor cap and rotor off. have a look at the base plate to see.

What do you do if you dropped a washer into the distributor hole of 1968 327 and can not see it?

Start with removing the intake manifold. If it still not found you will have to drop the oil pan. If it made it's way to the bottom of the oil pan it would be harmless, but you will not know.

How many wires come out of a 65 gto distributor?

What valve is used to set the timing on on a 1994 Suzuki Sidekick JLX 16 valve?

Both valves of the number one piston must be closed. This happens when the camshaft gear timing mark is lined up with the mark on the camshaft seal cover(mark is right on top-a notch in the top center of the plate of metal sticking up). The problem is that there are two marks on the gear and both have the "E" stamped nearby as required. Through trial and error I was able to determine the one that created pressure from the piston(because the wrong mark, when lined up, left one or more valves open so I felt no pressure.) Yet I still had problems getting the timing correct.

Where are the spark plugs on a Renault laguna?

take off (4 easy screws) the top cover plate (an embellishment that just tidies up t he appearance of the engine) and discard it. Look for the 4 high tension leads in front of you coming out of that square electronic equivalent of a distributor - mark the leads 1,2,3,4 starting top left (11 oclock position) going clockwise; note that they go onto a long black plastic panel underneath the sweeping intake manifold. At each end of this plastic rail is a 10mm bolt - remove these and pull the panel straight back towards you - it wilolo feel like it's sticky as it is holding all the leads to the plugs; unplug the connections to that electronic distributor block (without wiping out you numbers - these HAVE to go back to the same place) and withdraw the plastic rail from behind the manifold.

Voila - the plugs. You must have a thing walled long plug socket (socket set type plug sockets are too thick) with a universal joint (you don't get a direct line) - Halfords sell a suitable one but it needs the "T" bending back to give enough reach - then it's just fiddly but possible.
