Something that has worked for me is placing a medium sized bottle of 'Witch Hazel', an astringent, in the freezer. Take it out just before it freezes and pour it into a large bowl. Put a clean washcloth in the bowl and gently squeeze some of the liquid out into the bowl. Then, gently dab the wet cloth all over the burned area, getting the entire burned area wet with the icy 'Witch Hazel' until the person feels relief. This usually keeps them from blistering, if you can get to them before they are burned too badly. If you can, use a different bottle, bowl and washcloth for each person, to prevent infections. Then, rub a thin layer of Noxema 'mentholated' cold cream over the burned area, and let it dry before they try to go to bed. Even dark skinned persons can be burned badly from the Sun, so use this on all sun burned persons. If you can burn in a house fire, you can burn in the Sun. It also helps to take an analgesic, aspirin or tylenol, before putting on the Witch Hazel. If they have already started blistering, you can still use these suggestions, but don't break or pop any of the blisters, because a really bad infection and scarring can happen. I've heard that aloe vera also helps, so I suppose you could put the liqud aloe vera in the freezer, to help bring down the temperature of the burned skin. But, always use a suncreen first, to prevent burning.
