Where can you get a vacuum hose diagram for a 1998 Ford Contour?

I have a 98' Contour and the vacuum diagram is displayed under the hood. Mine is not under the hood.

The timing belt broke how do you set the timing on a 95 ford contour 2.0 zetec?

Piston #1 (passenger side) to Top Dead Center (TDC). You have to remove the valve cover. On the end of the cam shafts (driver side) there is a groove (line) cut into them. This line should matchacross the top of the head. I use an old carpenters square, lay it across the head and align the cam grooves till the square falls into the grooves. Put the belt on it and it should be in time. You may have to loosen the cam sprocket bolts (passenger side, Torx) to get the belt to line up perfectly, but it should not need to be extremely accurate. Tighten the tension pulley. Spin the engine around twice or trice, then re check tension.

CAUTION: the 2.0L engine is an interference motor, if the belt breaks or the engine spins with the cams out of alignment the pistons can come up and hit and bend or break the valves!! Also all three idler pulleys should be replaced when changing the timing belt, i did this the hard way and had to do the whole thing again after two weeks, fortunately i didn't hurt the valves.

Hey JC==Parts stores have cans of 134 freon with a hose attached. The low preasure valve is either on or close to the receiver dryer or the can looking shiney thing by the evaporator. If you get too much in it, it won't cool as well.GoodluckJoe

Before you assume it is out of refrigerent, check to see if the system still has pressure, then verify that your compressor is pumping, you will need low and high side gauges. You could also have a restriction in the metering orafice in the evaporator. if it has low suction and discharge pressure, it is likely low on charge. in that case you need to find the leak.

Sounds to Me Like You may have a voltage regulater problum. GM cars have inturnal Regultors. Fords have exturnal reglaters.try checking the reglater. Good Luck Darwin B. Fuse-fuselink-ground or U don't have 12 volts from the ignition switch 2 the alternator BUT-(IF) it does have an external regulator-- make SURE u use a MOTOR CRAFT regulator-after market regs usally don't last!!& make sure U have 12 volts from the ALTERNATOT 2 the STARTER The 96 contour, and I think the '95-'98 as well, has a 'maxifuse' hidden underneath the air-intake box covering the air-intake manifold (not the filter box!). You will find (up near the firewall on the belt side of the engine) a black plastic box about an inch wide and roughly 3 inches long. It is not listed in the repair manuals, and is usually the reason no power is being produced by the alternator. We replaced 3 alternators before finding this thing.

If your 1998 Ford Contour will not go into reverse and when in reverse car behaves like it is in neutral does your tranny have to be overhauled or is there a cheaper solution?

Are you saying the shifter will not physically go into reverse? Your question seems to contridict itself. (you probably do not need a tranny overhaul). Clarify your question and symptoms and if there is particular times this happens such as engine warm or cold, outside temperature Etc.

First assumption: you have an automatic. Second assumption: other ranges work. So forgive this answer if it doesn't help you (might help others). There is a recall if your problems indicate the selector is out of whack.

Just a dummy check but, if it is a 5 speed, in order to put the car into reverse you need to lift the manual lock on the gear shift lever itself prior to attempting to engage reverse.

I think I have your same problem, I have a 99 ford contour se with automatic tranny...my shifter will physically go into reverse and seems to engage, but the car won't back up it just acts like it is in nuteral. it does not matter if the car is warm or cold and outside temp doesnt affect. I am learning to park where i don't have to back out as all other gears work fine, so is this a transmission issue, or ??? any idea greatly appreciated as my car has just shy of 170k miles on her and tranny replacement is a bit spendy

I recently had a problem similar to this in my '95 Ford Contour about 2 months ago. How is your transmission fluid? Have you checked? I always knew that I had a seal leak, so, my tranny fluid was draining a bit more than usual. I ignored it for a little bit, because that's a pain in the butt to fix. Eventually, the bearing inside the transmission holding the CV shaft in place, as well as the intake shaft seal, had completely blown. It's an easy fix, but, very bothersome. My car would start, it would go into gear, but, I could not reverse at all, and it would not drive. I slammed on the gas just to see, she would rev up to 5000 rpms, and just jolt. So, there are other possibilities, I'm just giving you a little advice. ^_^ As you have said, it does act like it's in neutral, so, just give the seal a look-about, as well as the bearing itself. If you aren't a mechanic, bring it to your closest Mister Transmission. It should cost around $150.00 to look at it, but, most car shops won't touch the vehicle if it has anything to do with the transmission. Don't let them tell you the transmission is blown. A seal is a $25 part, and the bearing? Pfftt....maybe around $40? Not even?

remove the screws that are around the side and bottom of panel.

remove covers located by mirror and by the door hinge. remove the screws you found

use a small bent screw driver and put it in the hole on the underside of the the close handle to push the cover off the handle. remove these two screws

remove the screw behind the door open handle.

pop off the cover that is over the mirror mechinism.

now pull up on the panel and voila!

On the Passenger side under the dash. It is attached to the ductwork for the air. You may have to pull the carpet back some. It looks like a flat rectangle that has ridges on it and is made out of clay or ceramic. replacing it is cheap and easy. I did have to get the part online for myself. I went for over a year at one setting I couldn't get over the fact it was just because of that stupid piece.

some times you have to heat up the rotor to get it off but dont beat it to hard or u may end up buying a new wheel bearingAnswer

I did this with a hammer.. it was fused on.

It took 3 grown men 1 1/2 hours to smash the thing until the rotor came off in pieces..

This also resulted in the bearing coming off (unexpectedly) which I had to repack in grease myself.. after that I had to take it to a service station because I must have got some dirt in it and the bearing went bad 6 months later..

I would splash water around the studs it will run down and around the studs then hit it with a hammer between the studs hard it will pop off. remember water won't compress you may have to do this 2 or 3 times.

if hitting it will not help. sometimes its to stuck to the rotor that u can keep on hitting it till the bearings are damaged there is a quick solution that will solve it.

take u angle grinder. a small one will do. mines was 12 euros at a d.i.y.

cut next to the midsection of the disc [midsection is the part with the rotor inside and the bolts sticking out] from top to bottom.

even if u cut it half trough it will snap off when hit with a hammer.

now you have the disk with a flat side on one side. that will enable you to get your grinder up close.

now cut the the side of the disc in the now open side. and a not to deep cut from side to the center of the rotor. not touching the rotor of course

once done turn it and bang the top part hard and then turn to bang bottom part once.

this will most likely slit it towards the middle [remember this is made of cast-iron]

now u can gently tap the disk off.

if done carefully you will not have touched the rotor and you will not have banged the bearings to kingdom come..

Jack up the rear passenger side and there it is on the forward side of the gas tank. Brace properly with jack stand, do NOT work under a hydraulic lift. You are responsible for your own safety.

Remove fuse 14 from the main box, start the engine and let idle until it dies; you now have relieved pressure in the line. Remove cable to battery.

Loosen the screw clamp that holds the filter. Note the new plastic clips that you got with the new fuel filter, they have a barb on the inside. Be prepared for a small amount of fuel to leak after the next operation.

Look at the filter and spread the barbs on the old filter and pull out from the top- at this point, the pressure fitting will come off easily. do both sides.

Install new filter with the arrow towards engine, replace pressure fittings. Insert barbed clips, making sure the home down properly. Tighten, but don't crush fuel filter.

Replace fuse, then battery connection. WITH CAR OUT OF GEAR, OR IN NEUTRAL, Turn the ignition switch on/off five times to pressurize system. Check for leaks before lowering to the ground. Drive on for another 25K miles

Not a very specific question. There are a number of reasons for an overheating 124. Verify that the radiator inside and outside is clean and unobstructed. Is the water pump operating? V-belt o.k.? Waterside T-stat working? Many 124 have an electric cooling fan...Is it operating? Is the fan T-stat operating? From the book, If you will notice the engine is higher than the radiator. You should put the front end on stands or ramps and let it run for two cycles of the opening of the thermostat with the radiator cap off. Filling when it gets low otherwise you will have air trapped in the upper portion of the engine. Causing it to get hot.
