Ford Probe

I Have a '94 Probe GT. 230,000 miles and still going strong. The timing belt has been changed twice. Changed oil every 30,000 miles. (10w30 in summer, 5w30 in winter).

My best guess is that it is either a coolant fan relay or switch of some type. I have exactly the same problem and it left me on the freeway once or twice. The way I fixed it is i took some wire and ran it from the positive terminal into the cab of the car to a toggle switch, then two wires to the fans and then a wire to the negative terminal. When i connected the connection on one of the fans caught on fire so that didn't work for that one,but one of the fans did work and that was enough to get it the 200 miles back home and it has sat there ever since. I'm going to be working on this problem again here soon and if it is still a problem for you then E-mail me to let me know and i will E-mail you with what i find out. Engine overheating may be caused by many different things. First, ensure that there are adequate levels of coolant in the system, and that the system is flushed completely every now and then. I bought a Prestone flush kit from Kragen for around $12 (i think). All that's required is to splice into one of your hoses near the firewall, where you install the fitting, and screw on a garden hose to reverse flush the system. Timing may also contribute to heating, especially if it is too far advanced. As the previous poster stated, check to make sure that your cooling fan comes on once the engine warms up. Cooling fan is the one on the drivers side of the engine, the other fan is only for the air conditioning. If your fan doesnt come on, you may have a bad coolant fan switch, located on the thermostat housing, or a bad fan relay switch, located in the relay switch box on the firewall. Also check that your fuses are all ok. Im not sure, but there may be multiple fuses, ones under the dash on the driver side, and also in the front under the hood, near the right side next to the battery. Also replace your thermostat, which is at the engine end of the coolant hose coming from the top of the radiator, as these are usually only $8-$20, and if frozen, will cause overheating. Water pump can fail as well, which requires a little more work, and should be checked. Lastly, if there is a leak in the head gasket or cylinder head, it could cause back pressure into the cooling system, preventing it from working correctly, and/or burning coolant in the cylinders (this just happened to me, and I just replaced my cylinder head and all gaskets). Check to see if there is any white colored smoke coming from the tailpipe when the car is running, if there is, your cylinder head or gasket may be bad. Take off the radiator cap with the engine running (when its cool), and add water til its full, if the water/coolant continually splashes up from the radiator filler neck, then pressure is escaping from the cylinder head and/or cylinders into your cooling system. Another sign of blown head gasket or warped or cracked cylinder head. A compression checker may help to narrow the leak to a certain cylinder.Sorry for the novel, but hope it helps someone, as overheating can be frustrating to pin down sometimes.

The Control module (I am assuming you are referring to the ECM) is located forward of the center consol and below the dash. The center consol and radio a/c control trim faceplate must be removed to gain access to it. Stan

If it's a 1997 or similar age, jack up the front and remove the bar that holds the radiator up, (you'll have to support the radiator by another means) there's 3 bolts to undo, as well as the 2 electrical connections. There should be enough room to squeeze it past the radiator.

the neutral safety switch is located near the rear of the engine driver side below the throttle body and air intake hose mounted on the transmission connect to spring that is connected to the transmission hope this helps you

The 1993 Ford Probe oil filter can be found on the left side of the engine. The oil filter will be near the oil pan. The oil filter is easily seen from the bottom of the engine looking up.

I suppose you could wire your fuel pump directly to the keyed side of the fuse box.

The Fuel pump fuse is below dash on drivers Kick Panel...BUT make sure it is the fuse because the Ford F150's have a fuel shut off switch which can be easily triggered. The Fuel shut off switch is located on passengers Kick panel ..Just push button in!

the stock radio is hooked to a built in amp to power your speker so if you going for new speakers and a neck your going to need to pull the old amp it in the back on the passenger side by the door behind the speaker

lift vehicle & separate ball joint

pull drivshaft out of rotor/hub assembly as you swing spindle out of the way

pull or pry out driveshaft

More than likely. Get the clamp fixed! When going at speed, the clamp will vibrate, and will only be half re-charging the battery (the alternator re-charges it during operation). This means that when you slow down, you may not be getting any charge to it at all. Either that, or its just not making contact with the terminal when you have slowed down.

If you have the original factory tank, it has a drain plug (bottom center) you can remove with a wrench.

on the lsc its most likely the same with a bill blass mark 7 1988 which i own in perfect shape . but im 18 and its 2009 so the car reallly needed a stereo. that worked ! and so i replaced the regular tape deck with something new but old. a kennwood digitall aduio everything you need i pod hook up / charger / CD storage. store up to 80 hours of music into your car ! lol. anyway to wire up some bad ass sound your going to need to get a ''wiring harness'' they sell them at any autozone or other ''car sound'' shops. just tell them the year. and if it helps do what i did and bring the old radio out of youre car and show the guys because sometimes they get 1988 lincolns confused with god damn towncars !!!

that happened to me but to get there after you buy a wiring harness go out and buy a classy new deck for youre lsc it will really bring your car into the newr age yet still looks classy. plus what ever youre interior color is they have tons of new car stereos that light up certain colors and all kinds of stufff. re doing a vehicle is always good enjoyment

plug it in to the main wiring

there should be a white/whiteblack,purple/purple black,grn/grnblk, , gray/gray blk - those are all audio. your speakers

and red yellow and black are youre power power control/ on off ! and ground.

KLZE it has 30 more hp than the KL03 and fits perfectly.

putting a 305 in a ford probe would be more expensive that buying a car that would outrun it in the end. ford probe is front wheel drive and the body and frame (unibody) will not come close to taking the weight or abuse that the v8 will expose it to. as far as modifications they would be MAJOR. into the thousands of dollars. dont waste your time. get an SHO motor from a probe and put it in there. it will run with most v8s comfortanly and at a huge savings to your wallet.

My probe will not shift to any gear while running but will when turned off. Before taking it to a mechanic I would like a general idea if this is a clutch or transmission problem.

you need a small flat head screwdriver, a 10 millimeter socket (asmall extension helps), and if you want a small flat head screwdriver for removing all the little push clips.
