There are several reasons as to why a transmission would grind and not shift into gear. The problem could be cumulative therefore the problem could be 1 or a number of issues compounding the problem. The transmission has many valves in it that push transmission oil through. When you shift gears, if the valves are not able to push oil through, the transmission has a difficult time shifting, if it can at all. The transmission also has a magnet in it that essentially picks up small bits of metal that have been grinded by the gears. The constant grinding of the gears does a number of things. First, it wears down the gears leaving a lot of little pieces of metal that are then picked up by the magnet. Through years of wear and tear, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what happend....the gears become worn down. Second, the gears themselves could be slightly bent, meaning they no longer have their perfect form which of course can complicate shifting. Transmission oil change are not always the solution for these types of problems. Often the build up of metal and old oil is what is keeping the transmission together, other times a transmission oil change will allow for a thorough cleaning and flush any build up in the transmission away. I suggest you see a transmission specialist who can determine the best way to go forward.

If the shifter will not come out of park, check the brake light fuse. The shifter release solenoid uses the brake light switch to unlock the shifter.

you dont. starting in the early 90's, many of fords engines were using DIS (distributorless ignition system). by the time the manditory switch to OBDII in '96 rolled around, all ford engines had been switched over to DIS. this system uses one coil pack per 2 cylinders (so 3 on your V6), the coil packs are fired electronically by the engines computer. so in short, no distributor means no distributor cap or rotor.

Tools need are: 13mm wrench a set of oil filter pliers 5 quarts of oil Motorcraft FL820 oil filter drain bucket Crawl under the truck with your 13mm wrench, And oil filter pliers. Find the engine oil pan color of the pan is black. Remove the drain plug by turning the drain plug to the left. make sure you have a bucket under there that will be able to hold at least 5 quarts. Now look right beside the drain plug up higher to the top of the engine you will see the oil filter remove with your oil filter pliers turning it to the left. Let oil completely drain reinstall drain plug. and replace oil filter with new. Now open the hood remove the oil filter cap add 5 quarts of oil. start engine let run for 30 seconds check for any leaks under the vehicle check oil level buy checking the oil dip stick. if you cant find the oil dip stick you are a dip stick and should be changing you own oil.. close the hood making sure it firmly closed and your good to go!! have fun

Yes. There are two adjusting screws at 12 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions on the headlight underneath the trim ring. If you have an owner's manual it should show the steps. Also, Chilton's repair manual page 6-41 tells how-to process. If you want, I'll quote the section to you.

The transverse rear springs start to grind over bumps when the insulators wear out. Go to your local parts supplier and get the two teflon blocks, Moog makes this part. If the ends of the spring are still o/k not splitting you can pry (long bar or floor jack) the spring up off of the seat and slide in the blocks. You will see that the blocks have 2 raised sides, this is to hold the blocks in place once you put it in.

the 79 dodge powerwagon only had a mechanical fuel pump. so unless someone added a after market electrical one. it should not have wires
