How do you open the hood on your 95 GMC Jimmy when the hood latch cable is broken?

There are at least a couple ways of getting the hood open. For either method you should look at another GM latch for reference. The latch on my "88" Chevy van is the same thing. I used that for my reference. If you look at the latch you will see two 8mm bolts facing forward and slightly down. If you can get enough of a gap between the hood and grill open enough to see these bolts, you may be able to get them out with a 13mm socket which will allow the hood with the latch to be raised as much as the cable will allow. If this is enough to reach the latch, you should be able open it. This is how I got mine open. Once you get to the latch, you find the lever at the bottom that the cable is hooked to. You move it to the right as the cable would pull it. This releases the primary part of the latch. Now the lever has to back to the left to finish the release. This is where my problem was. The latch was so stiff the spring to push the lever to the left could not do the job. I had to push the lever back with a screwdriver to get it to release. I thought my cable was bad but it was OK. Once I got the latch out it took almost a half hour to get the latch moving freely enough to allow the spring to push the lever back.

If you cannot get the bolts out of the latch, get a piece of stiff rod,(I used 3/16 dia) bend a tight 90 at the end and practice on the reference latch to get the feel of releasing the latch and then try it.

Good Luck

I would assume the '92 GMC S-15 is the same. The grill comes off quite easily even with the hood closed. There are 4 small Torx screws across the top barely accessible just under the lip of the hood. Additionally there are 4 in the grill slats themselves. Be careful; they are easy to drop into wherever lost screws go. When the grill is loose, it can be removed by deflecting the top down to fit it out under the hood lip. It has to bend some but not near breaking. When the top of the grill is out, it simply lifts off two posts at the bottom corners. Be careful of the wires to the marker lights; just remove the sockets and let them hang.

Once the grill is out, you can see and access the release and release the latch. This might be possible without removing the grill but must be done blind from the bottom. The trick is to push a super heavy spring like loop to the right. This loop is the foremost part of the latch mechanism and is less than 1/4" in diameter. The cable points right at it. Imagine continuing to the left (passenger US) beyond where the cable disappears into the latch mechanism in the direction the cable is going when it goes into the latch mechanism. It would come out right in the front and that is where the tight loop in the strong spring that is the hood latch is. Push that loop right (toward driver). If you try it blind; slide a screwdriver from left to right across the front of the mechanism a little higher than the cable which you can see. A little press and release down on the hood will help. The hood will release, fix the cable or jury rig a release wire and you're done.

In my case the cable had simply slipped out of the loop and the latch moved freely. It was easy to get back in and then I closed the loop down a little with vice-grips so the cable couldn't slip out again. Don't forget the lights on reassembly. Incidentally both of mine were burnt out.

Where do you locate the turn signal flasher in a 1995 gmc k2500?

The turn wingnal switch flasher or relay is located on the inside of the cab on the firewall. You will find it on the driver's side almost at the kick panel located up out of view (you will have to get down on your hands and look up and under the dash.)

There is a relay block here with several relays. You can find the signal relay by turning on the signal light and listening and "feeling" for the relay cycling.

Where is the oil pressure sending switch on a 1989 GMC Sierra not the fuel pump relay?

The oil pressure sending unit on a 1989 GMC Sierra is located slightly above the oil filter. You will need a flashlight to find it. It may be hard to recognize it because it should have a heat shield around it as well. Look for its wire coming down from the engine compartment and follow it to the oil pressure sending unit. Drain your engine oil and remove the oil filter to make changing the oil pressure sending unit easier.

Where is the Coolant leak in the 5.7 liter GMC?

Its probably the heater hose fitting at the rear of the intake manifold. It could also be the fitting at the top of the water pump. Its a special fitting but if you go to your local parts store the have a different fitting that will just accept heater hose and a hose clamp. The fitting is made of cast alum. so be careful with it, it will break off very easily. If you want it all original then go to the dealer and get the piece of crap fitting. In replacing with non original part you will have to replace the whole hose to the top of the water pump, because of the steel portion with the "special" end on it. . The other possible place is the radiator end or ends. The radiator ends are plastic, where the trans cooler lines go in or the oil cooler lines go in they are famous for cracking and won't leak cold. When it heats up it will drip after a drive. Check for puddles in the front on drivers side and passengers side after the engine heats up. Hope this helps, good luck

What does a cataylic converter causes on a 1996 gmc sierre 1500 with a 305 when it goes bad?

If the cat goes bad you will notice a large reduction in fuel economy, and it causes your vehicle to produce a lot more emissions. This may also cause your oxygen sensor to go bad and possibly your EGR valve as well.

What size wiper blade does a GMC sierra 2007 have?

The 2007 GMC Sierra takes 22" wiper blades on both sides front. See sources and related links below for more information. Since there are currently over 22 different wiper arm attachments, do not buy wipers just by length only - be sure to lookup exact wiper blade part numbers by vehicle make, model and year for the brand wiper you decide to purchase. This ensures correct length AND correct attachment.

How can you fix on a 1993 Sierra 1500 an ignition key that is stuck in the on position?

I had this same problem and god is it a pain, most likely the ignition is going to need to be replaced. Mine had to be cut out and replaced with a new one which cost me around 130 bucks including labor. I personally tried everything to my knowledge to attempt to get it out. but it couldn't be done. so good luck and i hope that helps. I also had this problem with my 1993 Sierra 1500 (with tilt steering), and luckily avoided taking a hacksaw to my steering column! In my case, the switch was stuck on (in "run"), and the automatic transmission was in park. I couldn't move the transmission lever down far enough to get it into reverse, but it would move far enough to let the truck coast. Also, I could turn the key to "start", but doing that with the engine on damages the the starter. To fix it, I killed the engine by pulling the ignition fuse (it's labeled PCM/IGN), disconnected the battery, and then wiggled the shifter while turning the key back and forth between "run" and "start". Eventually, the key popped to the "lock" position, and now its working fine. If you can't get the key to come out after doing this, be sure to leave the battery disconnected. Leaving a stopped car in "run" drains the battery and can cause other damage.
