Why Mazda Protege won't charge battery?

One of two things is normally wrong. Either the battery has a dead cell and will not accept a charge, or the alternator is defective. With the engine running at idle check the voltage at the battery with a digital voltmeter set to the 20 Volt DC scale. If the alternator is good you should read from 13.5 to 15.5 Volts. If the alternator has a separate drive belt then it is possible the drive belt is broken.

Remove the intake tube and you'll see it under the throttle body.

Its a pain to get to the two bolts holding it, you will have to feel your way around to get to the bolts.

Why are the abs park brake lights on in 2001 Mazda Protege?

this could mean a variety of things. the manual says if both the ABS light and the parking brake light are on at the same time to pull over (if driving) and tow it to a dealership. it is normal for both lights to come on when starting the car and then go off after a few seconds.

I have the same problem with my 2002 protege but i have not had it looked at but with the information I've gathered from reading various forums is that it could be just about anything with the braking system. if the ABS light is on then you your ABS system is turned off. it could be a problem with the ABS control module, air in the lines, leak in the braking system, etc.. etc..

i had a caliper that was leaking and i since replaced it my ABS and parking brake light do not come on 100% of the time anymore like they used to, however, they still come on intermittenly. so i wonder if the error codes need to be reset?

in any case you should have a dealership look at the problem, they will be able to read the error codes from the computer and should be able to narrow the problem down.

i don't recommend driving the car with both ABS and parking brake light on.

Changing rear brake pads on 2002 Mazda protege5?

The rear brakes on the P5 are a bit different than most setups...be careful! The only way to move the piston back into the caliper is by way of a special Allen head bolt that is directly behind the piston, on the back side of the caliper, installed under a 14mm bolt.

You have to remove this bolt to gain access to the Allen head. As you loosen the Allen head bolt(counter-clockwise), the piston will move back into the caliper.

Installation is pretty typical, again, the Allen head bolt being the unusual part. The manual says to tighten this bolt until the pads contact the rotor, then loosen the bolt 1/3rd of a turn, then reinstall the 14mm bolt.

Hope this helps...I found all of this out the hard way.

How do you install a 1994 Mazda Protege compressor?

I am looking at doing it myself. I have a 1992 dx and 1994 lx and both compressors are out. My 92 is whirrling from the compressor bearings going out. I was told after you are done replacing it , you still have to get the AC serviced. I also think you have to purge the system/vent the lines that run through it. I am looking at the combined comressor/clutch. How much did you find a new compressor for? If you find one under 400.00 let me know. Thanks

Having changed my sons 2004 Protege's cv axle, I found the easiest and possibly LESS costly approach is to replace the entire hub. I think his cost around $80 *(in Ohio)*

Where is the 2002 Mazda Protege oxygen sensors located?

Good question ! I havent been able to find ANY manuals for the 2002 Mazda Protege' ANYWHERE. Whats up with that!?!? There are tons of Proteges on the road and no manuals on how to fix them? Anyone wanna be a millionaire? Print them shop manuals and sell em online.

Hello Chiltons and Haynes ! Wake up! And make us Protege owners some MANUALS

Anyway, to answer your question. I spent most of the afternoon chasing these two sensor down and then replacing them so i hope my description helps you save some time.

There are two oxygen sensors. One is located on the front area of the engine on the manifold ( near the radiator) It has (aprox. 4 depending on the year) small wires(black, blue, white, gray) running to it from a wiring harness. The sensor almost looks like a little spark plug sticking out of the manifold cover.

The second sensor is located below the first sensor almost on the bottom of the engine. It is attached to the exhaust system below the manifold. Same wiring is running to it and it looks almost identical to the first sensor.

The sensors are for measuring the amount of oxygen before and after the catalytic converter. This is to measure the fuel efficiency of the engine.

Good luck.

Hey, This is Josh, just letting you know, with the 4 cyl engines on those protege's there is only bank 1 so you only have to worry about bank 1. Sensor 1 is located ON the manifold, between the engine block and the fan. Sensor 2 is located under the engine block, bellow the manifold. Just jack the front end up, and crawl up underneath the car and you should see it.

What will cause the dim lights not to work when on but bright lights work and the daytime running lights changed the dimmer swith still not working?

Im Assuming you Should Check The Whole Lighting System. Usually it NOT the switch but could be. suprised me once when it was, but again usually not. The Daytime lights a separate from the Regular beams, check the high and low beams next before anything else. maybe just an old light that decided to Crap out?
