Is it a four cylinder?

Drain the raditor from the plastic screw in the lower right hand corner. You should be able to do this without jacking up the car.

If so, you need to remove the battery and the platform that secures it. There you will see the thermostat housing mounted vertically on the left side of the engine. There are two 12mm bolts and one other bolt that secures some other fixture. Take out the bolts, tap the housing lightly with a plastic hammer and it it should fall out.

Be carefull with aftermarket thermostats, I bought one and it didn't seal because the O Ring wasn't fat enough. The dealer wanted $30 for the OEM thermostat versus $8.00 for the aftermarket one. But what good is a thermostat that leaks? Clean the suraces well and ad some RTV type sealant and put it back on there. Tourque to about 6-8 lb max. You should be set. Use 1/4 drive with a short handle to elimiante the possility of over tightening. Yes these housings can break or distort if over tightened. It only has to be tight enough to seal.

Reagarding the houses find them and pull them off. Sometimes a slight twisting movement along with the tug will break them loose.

If you do it right it should not take more than an hour.

If it is just plain water, then you have either a leaking windshield or more than likely a stopped up A/C drain line. Look under the car passenger side and find the drain line and unclog it. If, on the other hand you have coolant leaking, then you have a leaking heater core, which must be replaced. Taste and smell the liquid. If it smells and taste sweet it is coolant and not just water.

A short somewhere along your electrical system.

Or a faulty battery.

Next time you come in from a drive, disconnect your battery from the car, leave it off for greater than 5 hours.

Then re-connect your battery after 5hrs time and see if the car will start.

If the car starts then your battery is OK and you will have to trace the short in your electrical system.

If the car doesn't start then buy a new battery and you're good to go.

Best and cheapest way is to go to a salvage yard and buy and install a "good" used one and run the vehicle for 5-10 minutes to see if your problems have gone away.

The alternate solution is to go to a mechanic an pay $100-150 for them to hook up your ecu through the diagnostic connector and run tests to check

all the functions of the ecu.

Depending on your problem, it could cost considerably more for a thorough

diagnosis-depending on what type mechanic you visit.

Pull the ECU out and remove the cover and physically look to see if i can see a burn mark on the board. Use a magnifying glass. Occasionally i will find a very obvious burned board. Not common but it does happen.

a broad range of things.

A) simple one, check the water levels in the radiator and the header tank, MAKE SURE THE CAR IS COLD! if you open the radiator hot, bad news. lets hear it for third degree burns.

B) if its only running a little hot, try buying a bottle of radiator cleaner, run that through it and then try, if it fixes it, then maybe also add a bottle of anti-boil to your radiator.

C)check the thermo-fan is working?

D) if the car blows white smoke you make have a broken head gasket and water is leaking into the cylinders. this is bad. you need a new head gasket, a job that will set you back anywhere upwards of about $400, another symptom of a blown head gasket is the radiator doesn't visibly leak, but uses water.

E) check out the thermostat, if that's not functioning properly, then the water may not be flowing through the engine, also not great, though not as costly to get fixed.

I have a Mits Galant 1990 A/T and recently repaired a leaking washer pump. The washer pump in my Galant is attached to the lower part of the water reservoir. You need to remove the electrical connection to the pump and remove the reservoir. Afterwards, you can remove the washer pump and replace it with a new one. To ensure you have no leaks when you install the new pump, I suggest you line the holw of the reservoir (the hole where the pump goes into reservoir) with silicone paste or any other sealant. Replace the reservoir and the connect the electrical connection.

When only the back windows are down, they make a thumping sound because of the air tightness of the car's cabin. Roll down a front window slightly and this will go away.

Check with a "good" mechanic. They will hav a aual that outlines the average "shop" time to make this repair. They will give this info to you no chage.

Usually it means you don't have enough oil in the motor. Check it! If the oil level is good try having the oil changed, it could be the warning light is because of a clogged filter or really cruddy oil.

A possibility may be a loose catalytic converter shield, or loose muffler hanger or clamp. Usually a noise like this is caused by something that is loose and vibrating. These issues are usually not complicated or expensive to fix.

If you're talking about the engine making rattling noises, the timing may be off, or it may be running too hot. Also, make sure you're using gas with the proper octane for your car. An engine noise like this is called "detonation". Detonation can cause engine damage if left untreated long enough.

it is not a thermostat problem is an actuator located under the dash that lets the water pass through the heater core, all these cars got the same problem dude good luck...

Possible the thermostat installed upside down. Spring goes toward engine. Also may be air in the system. Bleed the cooling system with the heater set to hot. The heater core may also be stopped up.

A cylinder misfire can be a number of things. If you have a coil pack that has more than one coil on it, like a 4pack or a 6pack set up, it could be that that particular coil isn't firing. PUll off the wire on the number 2 cylinder and put a screw driver in it, touching the electrode wire inside, the lean it near a metal component on the engine and have someone turn over the engine like your starting the car, and if you don't see Any spark, and you are sure you are touching the metal wire piece inside the spark plug wire, then the coiil is probably bad. If you get spark, you probably have another issue. One thing I know for sure...... carbon build up around the intake valve or exhaust valve due to a leak in the exhaust, will definitely cause a misfire, and that's gonna cost ya lots to remove the head, get a valve job done, and fix the exhaust leak that caused it. Can also be other things too. Just try the spark test first, and then if you get spark, take your car to a good repair shop. Goood Luck.
