What is the difference between conventional motor oil and synthetic motor oil?
synthetic motor oil lasts longer and is better to use.
Motor oil is designed to serve many different purposes within a cars engine. While the primary function is to simply lubricate all the moving parts and provide protection from wear and corrosion, it also is intended to keep the engine cool and free from small pieces of debris. Conventional motor oils are made from crude oil which has been is pumped from the ground and then processed in a refinery to create a base oil. Additives are then mixed into the base oil to change the viscosity, protection properties and heat breakdown levels of the oil. Synthetic oil is also created in a similar manner to a conventional engine oil, using a base oil combined with a series of additives. The difference lies in the fact that synthetic motor oils are created utilizing a specially "synthesized" base oil where the size of the oil molecules are all of an ideal weight and of a consistent size. While a conventional motor oil, despite the refining processes, is made up of different molecule sizes which are mixed together, along with various waxes and impurities, a fully synthetic oil is made to provide a much purer base oil, with less waxes and with a uniform ideal particle size to help increase the oils viscosity level. Added to this ideal base oil is a combination of more technically sophisticated additives than are used with the conventional oils. The additives which are used in the production of synthetic oils can help to create an extremely stable engine oil which will sustain the correct viscosity levels across a large range of temperatures and which will flow properly at lower temperatures when compared against conventional oils. Additional friction inhibitors which are activated at lower temperatures than those of conventional oils, are generally included in synthetic motor oils, to provide improved protection for the engine from the moment of start-up. This means that the synthetic oil is designed with improved lubricate properties and enhanced viscosity to provide superior protection from engine wear, reduced heat breakdown volatility for decreased oil consumption, improved fuel mileage, easier engine cold starting and a reduction in engine deposits. When deciding whether it is best to use synthetic or conventional car engine oils, it is always best to bear in mind the age of the vehicle as problems and oil leaks can occur when switching to a fully synthetic oil with an old engine. This is because there can be a build-up of waxes and sludge left by conventional oils over time, which may mask worn engine seals. The introduction of a synthetic oil may cause the detergents in the synthetic oil to break down and clean-up this protective build-up which is maintaining the seal, this will then result in oil leaking through the engine seals when the oil thins as it gets hot. Semi-synthetic oils are an alternative to buying a pure synthetic oil. These combine a certain quantity of synthetic base oil with a conventional base oil in order to provide a high quality oil which can be used to gain some of the protection benefits of a fully synthetic for slightly older vehicles. However semi-synthetic engine oils do not typically include all the synthetic oil's advanced additives. Whilst older vehicles are frequently better using conventional oils due to the engine seals, new cars which experience normal day-to-day use with its short journeys, traffic jams, extreme temperature changes, etc, can benefit from the extra protection of afforded by synthetics, but it is always safest to refer to the manufacturer's recommendations before making any changes.
What causes an 02 heater circuit malfunction on a 2000 Maxima SE?
Newer oxygen sensors are heated for accuracy. If the heater element goes bad the oxygen sensor doesn't work and needs to be replaced. If you have an oxygen sensor heater malfunction, it just means that the oxygen sensor has failed.

Where is the pcv valve located on a 1996 supercharged series 2 GM engine?
The PCV valve on the Supercharged GM 3800 series II engine is located under the plastic cover over the supercharger it is towards the back- a square black plate covers the PCV valve- there is a spring pushing against the bottom of that plate. there are two bolts that hold the plate on but be careful when you put the plate back on and screw the two bolts back in they are very cheap and break if u torq them too much. torq to about 78 lbs.
Not sure about the 99 maxima but I broke into my 98 with the keys in the trunk. My make shift key was a 3ft long metal rod (about the diameter of a pen) that I found laying around. I pulled on the front door from the end furthest from the hinges and stuck the rod through the weather stripping and managed to "hook" the inside lock. I was able to open my trunk at this point, and silence the alarm. No damage was done to the car.
How do you adjust the parking brake on your 1989 Nissan Maxima?
Underneath your vehicle, a steel threaded cable comes from the back of one hub and is joined by a short cable from the other hub--then the original cable runs to a threaded end with an adjuster nut in it--and one smaller nut on the end outside of that--(this is the equalizer bar)--you'll see it real close to your transmission. You might have to jack-up the back of the vehicle??? Pull the parking brake lever up sharply and then release it. Pull the parking brake lever to the second click and leave it there. You're looking for a slight drag of the brake shoes when you spin the wheels. To increase the drag, get under at the equalizer bar and turn the adjusting nut to take up the slack in the cables. Get out and spin the rear wheels if you think it's to tight. I will say don't be afraid to crank on it for a while as in this case, a little adjustment really does not go a long way. When you think you have the drag right, go back in the car and pull the brake up the the fourth click. At this point the wheels should be locked and you should not be able to turn them even when trying hard. If you can, tighten them up a little more. Once you've done this, release the brake and make sure the wheels spin freely. If they are still binding due to the parking brake, back off the adjustment a little. And that's basically the whole adjustment procedure.
Where is the pcv valve located on a 1997 Plymouth breez?
The PCV valve is located on a long semi-rigid black tube that runs from the top of the valve cover, between the pipes on the intake manifold, and then finally connects to the actual intake manifold itself. As you are facing the motor with the hood up, it will be to the left of the breather/intake plastic black box. Toy have to look behind the manifold pipes to find it. Autzone's web site repair gude has a great picture of it!
Take key from ignition and lock the drivers door, then unlock it. Another way is to put the key into the trunk lock and turn it. Stop locking the car by depressing lock when you exit. Use the key or automatic door locks.

Where can you find the fuse box and fuse for lighter socket on a 1997 Nissan Maxima GLE?
After looking below the dash, I found the a primary fuse box with a simple release cover and a fuse diagram identifying all fuses contained there. The fuse for the lighter socket is marked "Cig Lighter" and is on left side. Conveniently located on the right side is a white fuse puller to remove and replace the fuse. The fuse is a blue mini 15 amp fuse.

Is it common to have problems with a 2005 Nissan Maxima?
Bought a 2005 Nissan Maxima because our 2004 Nissan Maxima had a vibration problem that could not be fixed. Saw that Nissan had complaints about 04, decided the 05 would be free of that problem. Not so, The 05 has vibration problems causing the steering wheel to jump up and down.
Vibrating BIG Safety ProblemHey everyone. If your car 2004/05/06 has any vibration problem please email me. mattjohnsons@verizon.net or ffargee@aol.com or call 4258027691. My NEW car when I bought it a week after had the vibration problem when still or at high speed. Now a year and a half later 55k miles ( I drive a lot) they are refusing to do anything about it. Even though I had shown them the vehicle originally 4 times and they had not fixed it, even though an Independent Mechanic had stated that there is a problem. Now I'm trying to get Nissan North America to pay for what they are doing. I'm pursing Lemon Law but that I don't think is enough. If I can have a couple of REAL life people who have had this problem we could put them in bad Media on CNN and the big NEWS if they're not willing to pay for their damage. So please contact me cause we all deserve better making +30thousand dollar investment. We deserve better value and better care. Thanks Guys = ==
My '05 Maxima has 2 issues.
1: It has a ringing/squealing noise. They have said it was something welded that broke (does not give me confidence in the car). It has been in the shop twice for same issue, still makes the noise.
2. The shifting is rough, not smooth. You can feel it shift, and it shifts when it does not need to (example: going 20 mph and it shifts from 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 2nd, not a steady ride).
Yes, I have a 2005 Maxima with a vibration problem initially at all speeds now just a high speeds. Vehicle has been in 5 times. Steering rack adjusted, wheels rebalanced, new tires, and dealer riveted shield under the front. Each time the issue has gotten better but continue to have vibration at high speeds. I have asked Nissan for a buy back. So far no luck. I will now pursue other avenues such as the Lemon Law.
I am also having this problem with my 2006 Nissan maxima(vibrations/shimmys).Nissan refuses to take responsibility for this major problem.Been to the dealer 3 times already and they cant even fix it.Since i took it off the lot,its been a problem. They stated to me it was just a wheel balance problem.Wheel balancing, changing all 4 rims and tires, cutting the rotors and still nothing.
I Have a 2005 Maxima with 3100 miles. It also has the vibration (steering wheel shimmy) problem at 60mph. But that is the least of my issues. It sprung an oil leak. Brought it in to the dealer they told me it needs a rear main oil seal. Brought it in for that and they diagnosed that it wasn't the seal, that the oil leak was coming from somewhere up near the intake? So far the car has been in their possession for 10 days. Thank god they gave me a lot car to use. Now it is approaching 18 days and they finally tell me the problem was actually a mfg. defect a bolt was stripped in the aluminum block and the bottom half of the motor needs to be replaced. I told them that this is unacceptable and I want a new car (what I paid $27k for)not one with a re-built engine and I want to be reimbursed for the payment I made this month while it is sitting in the Dealership. So now I am awaiting Nissan North America's response. Now the car is at the dealer for 20 days, which constitutes the lemon law. I will await their decision and if I don't get what I am asking for I will pursue legal action.
I have a 2006 Maxima SE with 29000 miles, i just bought it used off the lot 3 days ago, and i have the problem as well (steering wheel shimmy) and ringing in the wheels, transmission also shifts roughly and does not engage when car first starts driving, i have not taken it to the shop yet, if you ask me i am ready to turn it back in. i spent 22K for the car...so there is definitely an issue with these Maximas, and i think they should pay for what they are doing.
I have a 2004 Maxima with ~60,000 miles.... it has had a vibration / rubbing noise coming from what sounds like the back right tire area for approximately that last 30,000 miles. Also, fairly recently the power steering seems to not perform as it should...making it more difficult to turn the wheel than it should be. The steering problem only seems to happen when in a parking lot and doesn't always happen. The sound coming from the back right tire is the most frustrating...we've had countless people look at it to figure out what is wrong, but nobody can find anything wrong with it. We had new tires put on and balanced around 45,000 miles and the noise and vibrations actually did get a little better, but not much and it quickly got back to it's old self. Any advice on this situation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
A majority of you are having transmission or front axle problems. If you take your foot off the gas and it stops then it is most likely an axle. Take it to your local transmission shop or you can go to www.acdelco.com and find a service center that can repair your vehicle.
I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima I bought it with 22000 now I have 100000 on it still same. The bad part I only have 4 payments left it has the vibration also they blame rotor I change them still same. Tires tried different brands I had struts change still the same Nissan should stand behind there product or at least pay for this or do a recall something needs to be done.
More than likely the alternator went. Once an alternator dies, the car has to run off the battery to power everything in the cab, as well as the spark plugs and other things for the engine compartment. When the battery gets too low to run the engine any more, obviously the engine would stop running, however the battery isn't completely dead, so it might still power the lights, radio, windows, etc.the topstall or no start problems for buick fuel pump fails when hot next the electronic spark conrpl module bad circuit fails when hot then may restart when cooled off next cam or cranshaft position sensor failure these parts had very high failure rate that buick replaced them out of warantee for some time. also fuel pump wiring in fuel tank have a electrical connector problem that causes power connector to melt
Can you reset a 96 Dodge Stratus computer sensors on your own?
Assuming that the problem has been fixed, try unhooking your battery for at leat 15-30 seconds. If that doesn't work some Autozones(and possible others) will do it for free. If that doesn't work you may have to replace the sensor or go to a professional garage.

What is the wiper blade size for 1999 Nissan Maxima?
The 1999 Nissan Maxima takes 22" drivers and 21" passenger side wiper blades. See sources and related links below for more information. Since there are over 22 different wiper arm attachments, do not buy wipers just by length only. Be sure to lookup exact wiper blade part numbers by vehicle make, model and year for the brand wiper you decide to purchase. This ensures correct length AND correct attachment.
