While it is physically possible for a trained mechanic to cause your odometer to stop running, doing so would be illegal in most jurisdictions. A properly-functioning odometer is necessary for insurance and vehicle resale purposes, and any form of tampering -- stopping it, or worse, setting it back to a lower number -- would be providing false information to the authorities.

Don't know, but I think this is a problem with this vehicle/year. Ours was fixed for free by the dealer.

The VSS, or Vehicle Speed Sensor, is located on the top of the transmission, approximately underneath the throttle body and intake piping. It is held in place by a single bolt, which is easily removed with a 10mm wrench. Once the retaining bolt has been removed, carefully pull the VSS out of the transmission, and do be careful not to knock a bunch of dirt and grease into your transmission.

With the old VSS out of the way, you are free to put the new one in its place, secure the retaining bolt, and reattach the speedometer cable.

An odometer isn't a unit of distance, it's an instrument used to measure distance.

What is your problem. Our 96 Camry measures 1.6 miles for every one mile driven. Coincidence that it's the same measurement as a kilometer? Toyota say yes, but we are going to delve further.

I'm sure it means low washer fluid. You have low windshield washer fluid

There is a separate motor that runs the odometer. It is not running for some reasson. TAke it to a speedo shop.

JUst sign on to ss. ca. SanQuentin.gov, and take your 5 to 10 years up front. Anybody who answers your question is either a con in prison or a fool.

there is no separate drive for the odometer, so it's the gauge...

everyone should have a manual for their vehicle, and the library should have a professional manual available...in the reference section, you'll have to make copies of the important sections...good luck :)

I've had the Gear on the tail shaft come loose where the cable goes into the transmission.

sounds like a broken speedometer cable.

No it will not, the mileage information is stored in the cluster so you have to have it repaired. Do not lose the original or else you will pay much more. Repair costs range at about $150

Press and hold down the trip meter button on the instrument panel and turn on the ignition, this should change the readout between miles and kilometres.

I am assuming that you have the analog style gauge cluster. What you would do is you would take the gauge cluster out of the dashboard area. Then, you would install a new gauge. If you cannot do this, I would check the internet and find a new Chrysler New Yorker gauge cluster. I believe that you could use either a digital cluster or an analog cluster, but I would use the same type that your car curently has. Good Luck! I hope that this helps.

Get at the dashboard. Messy disassembly requires some patience, but you will eventually get to the burned-out bulb.
