i highly suggest getting another car, or paying the 400-500 to get it done. you have to remove the exhaust, exhaust manifold, the upper left engine mount, jack up the engine, remove the timing chain case, timing chain tensioner, water pump housing, and then the water pump. and as complicated as this sounds......it still sounds ALOT easier than it is. Just an additional suggestion. I have had to get the water pump replaced twice in my 97 Achieva. The first garage I took it to asked if it was the 2.4 liter engine . When I said yes, he told me to sell the car. A friend of mine installed the first one and only charged me $350 and I bought the pump which was an off the shelf model. 2 years later, when it went again, I took it to a dealer who charged me $750 but used an original GM water pump. This is not a job for a back yard mechanic as half the engine is dismantled to get at this pump. ========== The simplest way - move motor down and then start procedure.

If it's a manual window, there should be a horseshoe clip that holds it in place. The best way, short of a special tool, it to get between the handle and the spacer plate between the door panel and the handle and locate the small clip. Using a small hook or flat screwdriver, remove the clip. Be careful that it doesn't fly away, they're hard to find.

If the vehicle will start, it can be moved. A loose serpentine belt, depending on HOW loose it is will affect the alternator output voltage, which provides electricity for the vehicle and recharges the battery. If the alternator is not providing enough power, the engine can run off the battery until it is used up, at which point the entire vehicle loses power and shuts down.
A loose belt also affects operation of the water pump, which pushes hot coolant out of the engine block into the radiator where it can be cooled. Then engine might overheat.
The Acheiva has a spring loaded idler pulley to keep tension on the belt. A loose belt may be an indication that the idler needs to be replaced, along with the belt. I have never heard of a belt stretching enough to become loose, but if it has, it will soon break because the fibers in the belt are likely separated which weakens the belt.
