How do you replace the thermostat on a 1988 Delta 88 Royale?

You need to pull the upper radiator hose from the engine (not from the radiator). The little round bugger w/ a spring on it in the hole from the radiator connection should be your thermostat. Pull it, drop in a new one, and then re-attacth the hose to your engine. You may have to pull the plastic "3800" molding off your motor to expose where the hose connects to the motor. Just a warning, the hose is a bit stubborn about getting back on...

How do you change the starter on a 1995 Oldsmobile delta 88 royale?

First, disconnect the negative terminal at the battery and move it out of the way. Block the rear wheels and put the front of the car up on jack stands. Remove the plastic cover near the front of the engine bay. You should now be able to see the starter. It may be necessary to remove the plastic torque converter cover and force pry the tabs on the plastic torque converter splash shield to be able to get access to the two hidden starter mounting bolts - then remove the two bolts and remove the nuts holding on the two wires on the back. You may be able to do this before unbolting the starter but I found it easier to do second. With those connections removed, the starter will come out with some twisting to get it around the frame. Installation is the reverse. The Eighty Eight I worked on did not have any shims between the starter and transmission but if yours does, be sure to transfer them from the old starter to the new one before installation. Failure to do so could cause major problems.

Noise coming from the front end that sounds like a small airplane is flying beside you when going down the highway above 35mph any ideal where the noise is coming from?

check fan clutch if equiped

Rick

I think this is a matter of the wheel hub bearing... definitely cause i had the same problem... to verify, simply move your steering wheel left and right on the highway or a safe street (not to the point of losing control), and you will see that the noise will fluctuate as you do that procedure... thanks..

Why would the heater stop blowing warm air in a 1985 Olds Delta 88?

My 85 did the same thing ,replace the heater core . john == another thought== Check first if fuse is blown, then pull fan blower motor, take and connect to proper power source and see if blower works, then check see if hoses are connected to heater core before removal, sometimes there is a valve to turn off flow to core. And sometimes during summer hose from pump to block to bypass heat. Then check make sure theromostat is correct, have seen these put in backwards. If all else fails before pulll core do a back flush,a lot of junk gets into core. ____________________________ Also, if your car has the auto climate controls, check the heat sink.

What causes a 1990 Olsmobile Delta 88 not to have spark when attempting to start and where would the unworking part be located on the car?

The coils...or as Autozone or shops will call it, the "ESC (Electronic Spark Control) unit." Pretty spendy, even for a remanufactured one. I'd head to a junkyard to rip one out of a comparable vehicle, any Olds Delta 88 year 1988 (vin C) to 1991 would do. It's a rectangular, black box just in front of the alternator with three "humps" on it, quite easy to remove with a standard socket set, I might add.

On years 1992 and up, the ESC looks like a cylinder, and still serves the same function, but is a pain to jerry-rig in place and may not be totally compatible.

How do you install serpentine belt on 95 olds delta 88?

This question gets asked so much for all cars that I would say it is already answered many times - just go back on previous posts and find one of the answers. Why wait for an answer? This model has a spring loaded idler pully called the tensioner. The pully has a slot in it's metal mount to insert a flat bar or pry bar into (or maybe even a tire tool)and force the pulley away from the belt - push towards the back of the engine. (It may have a 1/2 square hole for a socket wrench.) When you force the pulley away from the belt you can take the belt off any other pully on the engine then release the tensioner and take the belt off all the pullies. Sometimes this is not easy depending on how strong you are and you don't want to let the tensioner slip with your fingers under the belt and pully before you get the belt off. Make sure you have a diagram of the belt's route back on before you remove it or you will be back asking for that and have no wheels for a day or two. Route the new belt correctly around all of the pulleys except the last one which you can get to easily. Again push the tensioner out and slip the belt onto that last pulley. Release the tension on the tensioner The tensioner has a 15mm bolt head, use a 1/2" drive 15mm socket and breaker bar. There is also a long bolt and spacer that needs to be removed from front engine mount in order to get belt completely off engine, you will need to support under front of engine before removing this bolt. A floor jack works great. There should be a belt routing diagram sticker on top radiator support.

THIS APPEARS to be generic answer, not specific to the Delta 88... Please expand on how to remove the three-point motor mount, or which points need to be removed to get the belt to thread through the mount.

Answer... Oldsmobile Delta 88 (Delta eighty-eight). 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 & 1999. The serpentine belt diagram is in the owners manual, end of chapter 6. You will not have to remove the engine mount, just the one bottom leg of the three legged mount which is really just a spacer, nut, & a threaded post. First support the engine at the oil pan. I used a floor jack and a 18 inch 2x4. The nut is accessed from under the mount and you do not have to remove any plastic or rubber pieces. When I removed the nut, the post came with it (I'm not sure if it was seized, had chemical applied, or was welded). If the post needs to be removed separately, there may be a special tool required as the end is star shaped. I'd try a socket, but gently so you do not strip it. You can get an imprint of the end by placing pressure on the end with your finger.

Remove the post. The spacer then can be removed upward. Put the belt on following the above instructions. Move all tools to the side and test. Once satisfied and the engine is cool, replace the mount leg. The spacer is the hard item to replace,,, Insert it from the top horizontally... the tendency is to align the engine side and diagonally lower the spacer to the mount side. That seems not to work... horizontal twisting the spacer as it is lowered. Insert the post and nut. Tighten the post first if removed separately. Of course, remove the floor jack :)

How do you change the power steering pump on an '83 Delta 88 Oldsmobile?

I Just Changed Mine. First you need to take the belts off and remove the power steering lines. There is a bolt behind the pump that is hard to get at to loosen the belt. Then find the brackets and blots that hold the pump on and take them off. When everything is unbolted it should come off. Put everything back the way it come off. It really shouldn't be more then 3-4 bolts if I remember correctly. To retighten the belt I use a tire wrench and get on the side of the pump and pry up using the motor as a brace. Careful not to puncture the pump. There may be an easier way but this works. It's alot easier if there is 2 people to do this so you get the belt tightend correctly.

BoltsThere are two bolts that hold it on behind the pulley. One is located at approximatetly the 1 oclock position and the other at 6. You can access them through the access ports in the power steering pump pulley.

I have 1988 olds delta 88 it will turn over why will it not start?

Why is your water pump leaking in your 84 delta 88?

This could be that the gasket that is under your pump is worn,or the pump its self needs to be tighten. Now if you have have a leak coming out of the "baffle" hole this is a sure sign that the ball bearings are going out and the pump will soon.

Where is a crankshaft sensor on 88 celebrity?

The location of the crankshaft position sensor depends on which engine the car has.

If it is the 2.5L 4 cylinder engine the crankshaft position sensor is behind the ignition module.

If it is the 2.8L V6 engine the crankshaft position sensor is on the side of the engine nearest the firewall and just above the pan rail in about the center of the block.
