I had this condition on my 1998 Grand Cherokee. I discovered that it was worn contacts on the headlamp / interior light dimmer assembly. I cleaned the contacts and it worked for awhile then the problem came back. I replaced the assembly for about $100 and the problem went away.
Answermy 97 limited did the same thing, as well as the headlights momentarily turning off (while driving) with the headlight switch switched to the "auto" mode -- bad contacts in the rotary knob and panel dimmer; ended up replacing the headlight switchI just had my 96 switch out took it apart found the soilder joints loose on the circuit board added a little soilder all better know. Had nothing to loose it was either do this or spend 100 bucks .
How do you change the serpentine belt in a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager 3.3?
You need a special tool called a Serpentine Belt Tool. In Sears it’s the KD Tools Geared Serpentine Belt Tool Sears item #00947098000 Mfr. model #3680. The key to replacing the belt is pulling down the tension wheel enough so that you can lift the belt around it. The problem with standard tools is that there’s no room to angle a conventional tool in. When assembled the belt tool forms an angle that is just right for the job. Also, when you’re ready to remount the belt feed the belt around all the wheels except the idler pulley. Pull down the tension wheel belt tool and slide the belt over the idler pulley and you’re done. Then keep the belt tool the back of your van because every time you hit a puddle you will have to do the whole thing over again. – Mike Snodderly, USAF retired
How to replace 1993 Pontiac grand am brake fluid?
you never want to completly empty your resevoir. air bubbles will get in your brake lines and will make it super hard to stop. you should just add fluid. if you really do want to change it all out then you need to disconnect the brake line at one or all the tires and pump the brakes until its all out. but when you go to put more in then you will need to bleed the lines for any air bubbles which is a bigger project then when you started.
Make sure the oil is filled to the right amount, make sure that the oil is not black or burned, if that's not the problem you have a clicking lifter that will eventually have to be serviced. a valve job.
AnswerI had the exact same problem on a 97. When your oil gets really dirty it acts like sand paper on your lifters, tie rods and tie rod swing arms, they need to be replaced. The parts aren't terribly expensive, but labor will be about $1000. Get yourself Grand Am fix-it manual and get to work! Also, after you get it fixed make sure you change your oil more often. AnswerI have to disagree with the first guy, Dirty oil? Oil dirty enough to make your car tick would be the least of your problems as it would probably have alreay locked up at this point. Ticking at idle and increasing during accelloration is an exahst leak. Any muffler shop and weld the crack for under 200 bucks or less. AnswerIt could be a noisey lifter but, it could be a couple of other things as well. the clicking your are hearing could be a fuel injector or it could be something in the belt driven accessories such as a an alternator, power steering pump, or water pump, or the belt itself. AnswerI have a 94 Gand Am, but your problem sounds like it could be one of a couple that I just had fixed. I heard a strange clicking sound, had it checked out. It was the glides from the timing chain. After I had that fixed, bout 4 months later, i started hearing another clicking sound. Had that checked out, it was the water pump. 3 of the 5 blades inside had broken off. AnswerI have a 1996 Grand Am GT with the 2.4 and when i bought it it had a ticking at an idle that increased with acceleration ( yes i knew this when i bought it) and it turned out that it had spun a connecting rod bearing, the ticking was the connecting rod hitting the crandkshaft. also found out the reason it happpend was because the fuel pressure regulator went out and instead of sending the unused fuel back to the fuel tank it was dumping it in the block i had about a quart of fuel mixed in with the oil.How do you change headlight 1999 Seville?
If you are talking about just the bulb you need to twist the socket counterclockwise from the back of the housing and then pull the bulb out of the socket. If you're talking about the whole housing then you need to be careful when you're replacing it be careful not to break the mounting clips on the bottom.

If you reach way up behind the fuse panel you will feel the flasher unit in a clip. Pull straight up and the flasher and wiring will come free and can be brouught out through the trap door for replacement. Hope this helps.
the intermittent clicking sound, it is dirty contacts in your signal selector switch. Remove the combination switch from your steering column, spray some electrical contact cleaner on the contact points and viola! You're done. I did mine one year ago and haven't had any issues since. the intermittent clicking sound, it is dirty contacts in your signal selector switch. Mine didn't work and needed to be replaced when would they ever all work at the same time on a dodge? mine never would....... seriously check the ignition switch.
The needs for combustion are fuel, spark and compression. It sounds as though fuel is eliminated, I doubt compression. Pull a plug and hook the wire to it and crank it, does it spark?
Just had this problem with my 2001 Grand Am. Was just about to take it to a shop when I ran across an article that said that the RKE (remote keyless entry) system has a bug in it that for some reason prohibits the vehicle from starting. More often than not it happens out of the blue. To fix the problem you have to reset your computer. Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position and leave it there for 10 minutes, then turn the key off and try to start it. It should start, worked for mine.

How do you change the plugs on a 2000 4 cylinder Grand Am?
OK- look at the engine block. On top, there's a panel, the IDS module, that runs lengthwise across the middle of the block. It has 4 bolts that you need to take out. Once you have them out, you'll probably need to disconnect the electrical connector at the end of the IDS module to be able to lift it all the way up. To get to the spark plugs, lift the IDS module off the block. You'll have to use a little elbow grease as the connectors for the spark plugs are connected to this module and they have to come off the plugs before you can completely lift the module up. But once you get it off, look down into the h oles about where the bolts would have been, and wah-lah, there's your plugs. Make sure you have a ong enough etension for the rachet lol I had all that crap moved and went to take the plugs out and didn't have a long enough extension... talk about frustrating!

What can make a Pontiac Grand Am not shift gears?
depends on the type of transmission. If it's a automatic it could be a lack of fluid or if it's a brown color it needs a fluid and filter change or a need for band adjustment, internal clutches or torque converter. If you get a scanner you can check for trouble codes, depends on the year of car. IF it's a Manual transmission, it could be that the clutch needs adjusted, or as bad as needing a new clutch, throw out bearing, pressure plate. It depends on the year of car and model of transmission
How do you change spark plugs on a 1994 Pontiac grand am?
Since there is more than one engine, this question is vague. BClear. I assume you have a 2.3 quad four motor. If so, the plugs are no visable from the outside. On the top of the motor there is a housing cover that needs removal, After taking the retaining bolts off, the cover will pull out. This cover has a module and 2 coil packs attached to it. The coils are under the coil housing and the housing has 4 boots attached to it. REPLACE the boots when you do the plugs. USe dielectric grease when you replace them as well. After you reassemble the motor and still have a miss, suspect the coil housing the ;). pukenstein@aol.com
