Do you have to remove the dash on a '99 Grand Prix to fix an evaporator core that is not draining and leaking water through the dash vents?

No. You need to find the drain hose from the evaporator case, and clear the blockage from the hose and/or the case drainpipe it attaches to. Usually fishing up the hose from underneath (outside) with a piece of wire will do.

There is no drain hose however, just a nipple type plug that has to be cleaned out. It is hard to get to but easy to do. Look on the passenger side firewall about 1/2 way up and you'll see it. It just pulls off and the water will flow out that is backed up. Replace it when you are done.

I had the same water leakage problem in my 2000 grand prix and they told me that it was that hose blocked off. I cleaned it and it still didn't help. It ended up being bad weather stripping on the black platic cowl that lays on the windshield under the wipers. I removed it and replaced the weather stripping and havent had a problem since.

I had this problem, and the shop manual is just about useless to get it fixed. There is a rubber elbow, about 3/4" in diameter and 1-1/2" proud, that is pressed on to a port on the firewall. Make sure the engine is cool, because you have to reach down behind the engine on the passenger side of the car, near the exhaust takedown. It's about halfway down the firewall. I couldn't actually see it, but I felt water on the engine underneath it. When I pulled it out, it had a chunk of lint in it, and it was trapped where the boot points downward. I celeaned it out and put it back. I had to feel on the firewall for the port (it's metal and sticks out about a 1/2" from the firewall), and just pressed it back on.

How do you replace battery on 1995 Grand Prix?

I am assuming you know to remove both cables from the battery and any hold down that may be on it. I am also assuming you are baffled by that metal bar that angles across the battery. Yes it has to be removed. You can see the obvious nuts but there is a nut that you get too outside the engine compartment...it is in the front wheel well and is surprisingly not that hard to reach. A simple solution is to go to an Advance Auto and get a new battery and they install it free in my area. Yes even the girl clerks install them.

Where is the heater core on a 1994 Grand Prix?

Heater cores are located behind the dash panel in a big black plastic box (passenger side of the car). The water comes in through the firewall of the car and circulates through the core inside the car and then flows back out to the engine. If you need to change it...my prayers are with you. I have done this before on other cars and pulling the dash panel is never fun. The hardest part is locating which bolts have to be removed but the wiring can also be a mess. If there is water leaking in the floor of your car, do NOT assume that the heater core is leaking. My Grand Prix did this and I found out it was a clogged drain pipe. The black plastic box has a drain to allow condensation from the a/c to drain on the ground which is why you have water puddles after you park your car and have been running the a/c or defroster. If this drain pipe becomes clogged, the condensation will not drain and the water will spill into your floor inside the car. The first thing I would do is to look for a small rubber hose coming from the firewall (in the engine compartment) around the middle of the car about the height of the bottom of the dash. This is the drain hose I referenced earlier. Take compressed air and gently blow back through it to make sure it is open and see if the water stops coming into your car. You can also use a small wire or something similar to stick up in there to clear any clogs, but be careful not to poke the heater or a/c core! (twilmoth@ev1.net)

Edit - I am working on replacing my heater core on my 1993 Grand Prix currently. In order to reach it, you must remove the ashtray. It helps to disconnect the wires, there are only 2, so it isn't dangling in your way while you lay upside down on your front seat under your dash. There are only two or four bolts to remove the ashtray - its quite simple.

It also helps to remove the interior fascia that covers the rear of the footwells. Use a med. Phillips head to remove the plastic screws and these will pop right out. You also have to remove the fascia covering the back panel below the ashtray. Feel around for the screws... a 1/4 in drive ratchet w/ a 7mm socket are a HUGE Help. You'll also need a 1/4 extension. I found all of the screws by feel, but the thing still takes some... urging? to get it out the rest of the way. This will expose the heater core box... again feel for the join and follow it around for the screws... there are more than you think... This too takes some pushing in prodding to get out once you find the screws, but once it's off, the heater core is revealed... CAREFUL!!! I'm assuming you're doing this cause your heater core is leaking, (why else would you want to?) so there's going to be a boat load of antifreeze in the heater core box. Personally, I wasn't thinking this and dumped about half on my head. Nasty stuff. Move out of the way.

Before removing the heater core from its bracket go under the hood and detatch the hoses from it... they're about a foot in from the drivers side and about a foot down. If you find a simple way to do this, let me know. I've thus far found it impossible to do with out cutting the hose.

The metal tubes are mounted to the fire wall on the interior by one bolt. Undo this, pop the bracets holding the body in, and voila! Your heater core should pull right out.

Good luck in your fixing!

In the older models (89 - 93) there are 2 screws right above the guage cluster and there are 2 more on either side of the steering wheel (one under the wiper switches and one under the headlight switches) remove those and then you must remove the glove box (4 screws inside it) and then reach your hand up and search for the bolt holding it down. After that is removed, the dash top should just slide right twards you. Pull it a little to release the clips at the back.

Where is the throttle position sensor located on a 1987 Pontiac grand am 2.5l?

It is located on the passenger side of the throttle body.Remove the air cleaner housing, and stand on the passenger side of the car. The throttle position sensor (TPS) is on the side of the throttle body, behind several plastic vacuum lines. Disconnect the brackets that hold the lines to access the two bolts that secure the TPS. These are Torx 25 bolts, so be sure to use the right driver. Disconnect the electrical connection (you may have to disconnect others to gain access) and remove the TPS. The new TPS may have to be angled in to get the tang from the throttle to line up with the guides in the new TPS. Good luck with the operation, as there is not much area to work.

How do you repair a rear hub on a Pontiac Grand Prix?

Do you know what is specifically wrong with the hub. There isn't much to them other than they hold on the tire and have bearings to turn on the axle. If I needed one of these I would go to the salvage yard to find one. Check with car-part.com and it will search the salvage yards to find one for you. ..

Why does your headlight not work on your L reg micra you have replaced the bulb but it still does not work there does not appear to be a fuse for the headlight?

The fuse for the headlights are situated right in front of the battery. Because of the location of this fuse box,it gets bombarded with the weather which results in the terminals corroding badly and falling apart. I suspect if you look at this you will find your problem. Hope this helps

How often do you have to change the oil on a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix?

Manufacturers of oil products suggest every 3000 miles. I have been changing ny oil once every 5000 miles for years. No more, no less. I also suggest using Lucas Oil Stabilizer. It is by far the best petroleum product on the market. Just add it to your oil at every change and you will get slightly better mileage and your motor will last a whole lot longer. Y-THINK-Y How often do you change the oil in your car? If you change it every 3 months or 3,000 miles, there's a good chance you may be able to go a bit further between changes. I spoke to a number of automotive experts and they all said the same thing: Check the owner's manual and see what your auto maker recommends. You may be surprised at what you find. Typically, the minimum these days is every 5,000 miles. My owner's manual says I should change the oil every year or 7,500 miles. A number of new vehicles, including models from Honda, Mercedes, BMW and General Motors now have oil change indicator systems; a warning light goes on when the vehicle senses it's time to change the oil. We should see more cars offering this feature in the future. Many owner's manuals recommend changing the oil filter every other oil change. Mine does. But the auto experts at AAA and Consumer Reports say it's best to replace the filter every oil change. Their logic - why have all that clean new oil go through a dirty filter? When it comes to the type of oil, should you go regular or synthetic? I asked John Ibbotson, an automotive expert at Consumer Reports, about that. "We found that conventional motor oil is just fine for most circumstances," Ibbotson says. "Synthetics really help play a part when you live in extremely cold climates or extremely hot climates." And yes, you can switch back and forth between regular oil and synthetic oil, if you want. Finally be sure to check the oil level on a regular basis. If you do it every fill-up you'll never forget.
