What tools do you need to change the front hub assembly on a 2002 impala?

the normal tools (wrenches and sockets) with the exception of the axle nut. not 100 % on this one either 32milimeter or 1"1/4 you have the luxury of taking your cap off before your wheel to try this.when you get all your tools together its not that bad of a job.

How do you replace Saturn SL2 sunroof drive motor?

The complete headliner must be removed to gain access to the motor. All interior trim around the headliner must be removed including the dome light. Push the front seats back and recline them to allow the headliner to come out the front door. BE CAREFUL not to bend the headliner because it cannot be repaired if cracked. Motor replacement can be done after the headliner is out. WARNING : This is not a job for most amateurs. You may want to see your dealer before attempting this job. Good Luck. Just replaced my motor on a 99 sc2. took all of 20 min!!!! three bolts and two electical connectors. easy going in and easy coming out. lithium white grease ($3.29 from auto zone) on the tracks and it works like a champ. Simply remove the visors, center lights and sunroof switch cover and center dome light. the headliner simply snaps down minus the velcro! Didnt even take the headliner completely off, just the front. Dont have to be a genius just careful with the headliner.

Odometer cable on 93 sl1?

Funny thing about saturns, they don't have an "odometer cable" They use a magnetic pickup assembly, located in the rear of the transmission, just above the passanger side axle output. this sensor is connected directly to the engine computer. from the computer the signal then goes to your instrument panel and is converted into electricity to drive a small motor to turn the digits which you can see. if the odometer has stopped working, replace the speed sensor on the transmission, or your instrument panel has failed.

Change Your Mind, Not Your Oil.
Use the First In Synthetic Motor Oil's.
See My Bio For Information & Contact Details. I believe it's the same for your manual transmission '98 as my '97: automatic transmission fluid. Yes, I was taken aback when I read that in two manuals (DEXRON II). Check it with the provided dipstick (driver's side, beneath and slightly in front of the brake master cylibder)--and yes, it's auto transmission fluid. Check fluid level when the car is COLD and on a level surface. Dipstick should read "full". My manuals suggest it should be changed only once, when the car's reached 6,000 miles, and then just topped up thereafter. Since yours is a '98, that's likely long passed. :-) Drain plug is underneath the tranny. Suggestion: $15 for a Chilton's or Haynes manual or $20 for a year's subscription to a Mitchell's (http://www.eautorepair.net) might serve you well. Browse through examples you can locate and pick the one that fits your needs. the tipe of oil is ATF or Automatic Transmission Fluid Dexixron III and yes there is a dipstick on the top of the transmission it is normally colored red use a light to look down in ontop of it(located on the drivers side)

How do you check trans fluid level Saturn 2001 wagon 4-cylinder?

It's called a "maintenance free" transmission, meaning that you shouldn't need to add fluid between changes... however, since it's a mechanical device, something always goes wrong.

There is a plug on the side of the transmission that also indicates the fill level. The transmission fluid should be filled to that level. Just make sure you're removing the right thing; no point in causing permanent damage.

How do you fix the fuel gauge for a1993 Saturn sl?

Possible "easy" fix for "S" series gashttp://www.saturnfans.com/forums

Fuel gage

Re: 93 sl1 fuel gauge don't read can anyone help?

There is no fuse for the gauge. I do not have a schematic for your year so I can not tell you what to check. Go to a decent library and they will have a set of Mitchels books or internet access to the data. Find the schematic and check the tank level sensor back at the tank.OTE: Fuel tank (and gauge) MUST be 3/4 or LESS BEFORE you start this!
What you will need:
I automotive type TEST LIGHT
(Available at Walmart or any autoparts store for less than $10)
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!! DO NOT make up your own version of this repair! Follow the instructions EXACTLYOpen the trunk
Slip the trim carpet away from side of the DRIVER'S SIDE wheel well and locate the THREE WIRE connector hidden behind it. This connector will have THREE WIRES (Grey, Black with a WHITE stripe, and Purple)
START the car and LEAVE IT RUNNING, make SURE you can see the fuel gauge through the back window easily (recline driver's seat fully)
Connect the clip of the test light cord to GROUND
Probe each of the three wires where they go into the connector QUICKLY, one (but not the other two) should light up the light confirming that it has a good ground. If it does not light up reclip the test light clip somewhere else and repeat until you are SURE you have a GOOD GROUND to the test light.

While observing the gas gauge through the rear window , probe the wires again in the same manner until you find one that when probed causes the gas gauge to peg all the way over to the "FULL" mark.

Leave that wire probed (and the gauge pegged over) for 15 seconds and then remove the probe.

Shut the car off and WAIT about 10 minutes, then restart the car. If you have been successful the gas gauge should now be reading higher than it was before you started. It IMPORTANT!! DO NOT leave the probe connected for longer than the 15 second interval listed! If you do, you may wind up with a gauge that constantly reads too full!!!
Why this works:
Your gas gauge works basically by having two electro magnets fight against each other on either side of the needle. One side gets a basically consistant ground from the wiring harness that is always trying to pull the needle toward the EMPTY the other gets a VARIABLE ground from the sending unit in the gas tank that tries to pull the gauge toward FULL. As the tank empties, the signal from the sending unit gets WEAKER, allowing the EMPTY side of the gauge to gradually "win" this electronic tug of war. As anyone who ever took science in grade school knows, an electro magnet retains a partial magnetic field even when the power is shut off to it. Over time this residual magnetic field will remain/get STRONGER on the magnet that gets the most consistant power feed (the EMPTY side of the gauge) and NOT as strong on the magnet that gets the least consistant (or variable) power feed (the FULL side of the gauge) By giving full ground via this proceedure BRIEFLY to the magnet on the FULL side that normally gets only a partial and variable ground, you are "recharging" the residual magnet field that this magnet has even when the power is shut down to it. This makes it SLIGHTLY easier for the magnet on the FULL side of the gauge to do battle with the magnet on the EMPTY side of the gauge when powered up and in doing so makes the gauge read correctly (or more so) again.

What kind of antifreeze SHOULD be put into your 1995 Saturn sl1 and what does it mean if the fluid in the overflow tabe looks clear - Is it water?

if its clear its water and needs to be removed and replaced with Antifreeze. You can get pre-diluted or strait antifreeze which you must dilute yourself 50/50. The kind needed is in your car manual or on the resivoir cap the way those buckets are set up it will look clear sometimes

How do you fix a fan belt tensioner on a 95 Saturn SL1?

First raise the hood.Removing the top engine mount gives easier access.Jack the car up on the right side, remove the right front tire, remove the inter fender at the quick release fasteners. The original tensioner can be rolled back with a 9/16" wrench, then remove the belt.Take the top bolt for the tensioner from under the hood with a 10mm boxed end wrench, then you can remove the bottom bolt threw the wheel opening with the same tool or you can use a ratchet and socket. Then replace the parts you have removed Replacing the belt can be done by you self, but having help makes it a lot easier.

1979 Saturn SL2, alternator, replace, these directions apply for getting to the alternator on the 1979 SL2.

YOU CAN NOT CAN NOT REMOVE THAT MOUNT WITHOUT SUPPORTING THE ENGINE

accutally you can remove the top engine mount without supporting the engine because the motor will only drop 2 inches before the lower engine support cradle sits on the subframe. will putting a jack under the engine help you to line it all back up when your done... yes, but not necessary

that a good way to put nonsense strain on your other mounts, keep in mind that most of them are dog bone style and also putting strain on eletrical .... smarter not harder

yes, dogbone mounts that will swing, and if any extra strain is put on them its only for at most 10 min. no harm is done to the electrical being that there is really no electrical on the pully side of the engine. a 2" drop on the pully side isn't going to harm any electrical on the trans side of the motor. i do 4-5 of these tensioners a week this way and have never had a problem

Why would a 2000 Saturn SL-2 with a new thermostat still overheat?

check to see if your cooling fan is working if so look at your radiator cap and make sure the cap gasket is not broken.

AnswerThe easiest way to see if your fan motor it still working is to run the A/C in the car, this triggers the relay for the fan. If the fan works and the car still overheats you will most likely new a new Coolant Temperature Sensor. There are two of these sensors. One controls the temperature gauge on the dashboard. The other takes a direct temp. reading of coolant. It is in the front right side of your engine just below the valve cover, you will see two small wires leading to it underneath the air filter. Answersometimes when you loose some coolent like when you changed the thermostat you get an air pocket trapped inside the engine witch will cause the engine to overheat.you have to bleed the air out. AnswerThe most likely cause is the coolant sensor located in the cyl haed on the back of the engine It has a small 2 wire connector attached to it. Unplug the connector and see if there is any corrosion on it If there is you will need a ssensor and harness. If not change the sensor It's only 18$ Canadian from Saturn Stay away from aftermarket on this as they never work properly

Replace Left hand power window regulator on 1995 Saturn SC?

I just did this in a 1993 SW2 and I'm assuming that the door construction is relatively the same.

1. Remove the mirror. You'll need a Philips screw driver, a set of small Allen keys and a 10mm metric wrench. First remove the interior trim by undoing the screw and detaching the mirror adjustor (assuming manual here) using the appropriate Allen key. Next remove the insulation and detach the 3 nuts holding the mirror using the 10mm wrench being carefull not to drop the nuts. The mirror should pull off with a gentle tug.

2. Remove the exterior door skin. You'll need a Torx screwdriver . On the inside edge of the door you'll see a series of black headed flat screws that fit a Torx screwdriver and hold the exterior skin on. Remove these. Remove the door handle by lifting up on it and carefully pulling the 2 pins from the bottom. Next slide the door handle to the left and it should come off rather easily. Finally, remove the black window gasket where the door panel meets the bottom of the window. Do this by pulling up firmly on the gasket. Once this is removed the door panel should pull off with gentle force exposing the inside of the door.

3. Remove the interior door panel. You'll need a Philips screwdriver for this. First, detach the mechanism for the interior door handle and lock accessed from the exerior. There are little clips that you'll need to detach before you can pull the rods out. Now, from the interior remove the door handle and trim by removing the 3 screws and then sliding the unit forwards and prying outwards. Once complete, gently pull the interior door panel off by prying at the edges.

Remove the lower space frame supports on the exterior. You'll need a 10mm wrench. There are 2 rods held onto the door with 3 bolts that come from the bottom corners to the middle door support. Remove these.

5. Remove the power window motor and regulator as one unit. You'll need a drill, drill bits and a 10mm wrench. Drill out the 4 rivets holding the motor and regulator mechanism to the door. Undo the 2 bolts holding the lower regulator track. Carefull that the window does not fall down at this point. Finally, slide the wheels out of the upper regulator track that is attached to the window. This will take a bit of patience.

6. Install the new window motor and regulator using 4 x 10mm long bolts and locknuts where the rivets were drilled out and then reverse the steps above to reassemble the door.

In my experience I determined that there are 2 types of window motor/regulator parts. If the new one is not the same a the old then you'll need to reverse the upper regulator track attached to the window. This requires a specialized tool which you may be better off bringing the window into a auto glass shop so they can do this. There is enough room to drop the window out the bottom of the door by turning it sideways and carefully manouvering it.

Good Luck

What if your 2001 Saturn sl1 will not go into any gear?

Check the fluid level. If you have fluid, you may have any of a number of problems.

Most likely it will be either a faulty hydraulic pump or poor seals in the valve body. Either way, you'll need a shop to make the necessary repairs.

How do you program a Saturn sl2 keyless entry module?

Second answer in case the answer from the person above doesn't work. In the case of the battery being disconnected or dying, the remote sensor on the Saturn may need to be reset. Stand about five feet away from the car and simultaneously press the 'lock' and 'unlock' buttons on the remote for about seven seconds. The car's horn should chirp a few times if it's successful. - PaperProphet

This worked for my 1996 Saturn Sl2:

Here's how to program a new remote: You do not need the key in the ignition. Take a metal paper clip and make it into a "U" shape. Connect together pins 4 and 8 on the OBDII connector by the driver's left knee.(See picture below) This is a connector with 2 rows of 8 slots near the hood release. Counting from left to right, top row, place one end of the paper clip in slot 4 and the other end of the paper clip in slot 8. You should then hear the horn chirp. Now hold down the lock and unlock buttons on the keyless remotesimultaneously until the horn honks (should be about 15 sec.), that one is now set. Now hold the lock and unlock buttons on the second keyless remoteand so on until the horn honks. (You can program up to 4 remotes). The remotes are now programmed. Pull out the paper clip, and your done.
