Where is the serpentine tension adjuster on a 1998 Toyota Corolla?
Because serpentine belts use a spring loaded tensioner for adjustment, belt replacement tends to be somewhat easier than it used to be on engines where accessories were pivoted and bolted in place for tension adjustment. Basically, all belt replacement involves is to pivot the tensioner to loosen the belt, then slide the belt off of the pulleys. For tensioners equipped with a 1⁄2 in. (13mm) square hole, insert the drive end of a large breaker bar into the hole. Use the breaker bar to pivot the tensioner away from the drive belt. For tensioners not equipped with this hole, use the proper-sized socket and breaker bar (or a large handled wrench) on the tensioner idler pulley center bolt to pivot the tensioner away from the belt. This will loosen the belt sufficiently that it can be pulled off of one or more of the pulleys. It is usually easiest to carefully pull the belt out from underneath the tensioner pulley itself. Once the belt is off one of the pulleys, gently pivot the tensioner back into position. DO NOT allow the tensioner to snap back, as this could damage the tensioner's internal parts. Now finish removing the belt from the other pulleys and remove it from the engine

Will a 1996 Pontiac grand prix run without the serpentine belt?
Yes. Not for long. The water pump, and alternator are driven off of the serpentine belt. If you remove it, your car will prolly die from lack of electrical power before it overheats. If you are removing it because of something not there, I.e. A/C Compressor you can buy a shorter belt for the non-A/C model, or you can get a "dummy" idler pulley to replace it.
How do you replace a serpentine belt on a 3.8 liter Chrysler engine?
Disconnect the battery. Taking a ratchet and socket rotate the belt tensioner to release the belt. Remove the belt and install the new one. Release the tensioner, and connect the battery.
Do you need a special tool to relieve the tension on the serpentine belt of a S500 Mercedes?
Yes you need a wrench to loosen the tensioner and then release the belt slowly from the bolt in the top of alternator after that you would need a long and strong screwdriver (crowbar) to release it from the pulley it self. Do not forget to draw the diagram of how the belt serpentine around the pulley.

Are the threads on the bolt that hold the tensioner pulley left or right handed on a 1995 Suburban?
The bolt on the tensioner pulley are opposite of a standard thread. That is, righty loosey lefty tighty. I know this first hand because I stripped the threads on my pulley trying to remove it on my 94 Sub.
When should a serpentine belt need replacing on an 05 ford explorer?
Before it breaks.
Check the Belt for age/wear by feeling it for gaps on the underside (drive side).
If there are good sized gaps in the tread, REPLACE THE BELT.
If it's heavily glazed on the TOP, REPLACE IT.
It's a cheap replace instead of an Engine rebuild.
How do you Change serpentine belt on 1986 Lincoln town car?
I will conentrate on the second inner belt since the first outer belt is fairly obvious. To change the second belt, look behind the idler pully and loosen the 9/16 bolt mounted in a curved slot (this is the adjustment point). To loosen the pivot point and release tension from the belt, feel directly below the AC pump for the thread end of a bolt with a nut on it. You can see it at an angle, but I found it easier to just work by feel. Loosen this nut using a 5/8 deep well socket and the tension will be released. Reinstall tightening the adjustment bolt first. Note the outer belt will have to be removed to remove/install the inner belt.

Is a drive belt the same as a timing belt?
No it is not, the timing belt runs the timing of the engine, eg, where the valves close and open to generate compression for combustion. This belt is usually not seen hidden by what they call a "Timing Cover", The drive belt runs the alternator, the power steering pump sometimes the water pump A/C compressor. etc. this belt is is seen.
How do you know if you have proper alignment of idler pulley?
Use a "straight edge" to make sure that the "valley" area (where the belt rides) is in alignment with the other pulleys
Is a serpentine belt the same thing as a generator drive belt?
No, the serpentine belt is used to drive more than one thing and tension is automatically adjust by way of a spring loaded idler pulley. Normally it will drive the alternator, power steering pump, & A/C compressor. A drive belt normally drives only one thing and tension is manually adjusted. A serpentine belt is wider that a drive belt and is not a V-Belt like a drive belt.
How can you stop the serpentine belt in a 2001 Yukon from squealing when wet?
Replace the tensioner. Stop it from getting wet by making some sort of shield to prevent water from getting to the belt.
Where is belt diagram for Subaru Outback?
The belt diagram is not under the hood on a sticker, as located on many other vehicles. Consult your Owners Manual. If all else fails, make your own diagram before belt removal. Cheers! On my 2005 Outback 2.5 the belts are (facing vehicle from front) AC on right and Alt/Power Steering pump on left. The AC belt is narrower and the Alt/PS belt is wider. The AC belt routes over the rear half of the crank pulley on left, AC pump on right, and tensioner pulley at bottom right. The Alt/PS belt routes over the front half of the crank pulley, over Alt at top right, over PS pump on bottom left. The AC pump tension is managed by a 12mm bolt above the tensioner. The Alt/PS belt tension is managed by a 12mm bolt above the left side of the Alternator. Good luck.
