Serpentine Belts

There is a spring loaded pulley called a tensioner that puts the correct tension on the belt. That needs to be retracted so the belt can be slipped off. I have found using a ratchet socket makes this easy to do. Otherwise you run out of travel room before relaxing it sufficiently. Make sure you know the proper routing of the belt before taking it off, otherwise you will have trouble putting the new one back on..

put a socket on the tensioner pully nut I forot which way to loosen(it will only go one way)about 1/4of the way it will be obvious when you do it.Then take the old belt off.Put the wratchet back on the nut and repeat in reverse the step.I believe on that one you need to take the coolant reservoir off to make the whole job take about 25 minutes

The Toyota shop manual for the 04 simply says to remove the tensioner. I have not seen the real thing, but I think it is held in place with two bolts. I think you can remove one of these bolts with the other one loosened and the tensioner will rotate out of the way. The tensioner pin has to pushed back so that a 1.5mm Allen wrench can be inserted through the tensioner to hold the pin in while it is mounted. Toyota say not to apply more than 2205 lbs of force to the pin. You will need some kind of a press.

You can't bypass with a belt alone. You have to by a bypass pulley kit. The new pulley takes the place of the ac compressor and you use the same size belt.

Sometimes the old belt leaves a residue in the grooves of the pulleys. Clean the grooves of all the pulleys with a wire brush, and reinstall the serpintine. You also might have a bad belt tensioner.

i can't access a diagram on the net BUT when you open your hood there should be a diagram right there in the very front near the grill. I said should be because sometimes they come off or some dummy will remove it.

One of the earliest signs of a bad serpentine belt is strange noises. You will often hear a screeching sound. You could also hear a grinding sound coming from under the hood. These sounds may come and go at first and then become more persistent and regular.

There should be a diagram under the hood. Look once you have the hood open. If you can't find it there, then check the owners manual.

The belt tensioner should have a single mounting bolt. After removing the serpentine belt, the bolt can be removed to take the tensioner off.

Check for a gas leak maybe on the belt and check the belt for alignment.

There should be a diagram on the underside of the hood.

Buy the belt and get instructions from the place of purchase which they should have or check for a sticker on the top of the radiator cross member or on the under side of the hood

Find the tensioner pulley. Use a straight wrench (I believe a 14mm) and turn the tensioner pulley bolt (the one in the middle of the pulley) counter clockwise (you may need an extension Pipe). This will release tension on the belt then slide the belt off. The tensioner pulley bolt is a reverse thread so it will not come loose when attempting to turn it counter clockwise. Slide the new belt on from the bottom up then turn the tensioner pulley counter clockwise (releasing tension) with one hand while sliding the belt over the alternator pulley (a long screwdriver wedged against the side wall can help get the belt onto the pulley) then allow the tensioner pulley to return to its normal position.

That's dependent more upon the engine than the truck it's installed in. The T300 was available in configurations ranging from a single axle Class 5 truck up to a tandem axle Class 8 truck... I believe Cummins options ranged from the 5.9 liter 6BT up to the 11 liter M11, Cat had a similar range of engine options, and the 11.1 Detroit was also available.
