Is 4 extra quarts of oil in your engine ok?
4 quarts over full is not safe for your engine, that is almost twice the amount that it calls for. that much oil will cause more pressure on your oil seals, and could cause a severe leak that is an expensive fix.
Same problem turned out to be a hair line fracture to the head!
How do you replace a headlamp on a 2001 or 2005 Outback?
Immediately behind the headlamp housing you should find a large (3 or 4 inch diameter, I'd guess) screw off cap. Once this is removed, you'll find that the bulb itself is very small and minimal. It is held in place by a clip. When the clip is undone, the bulb can be removed very easily, there is nothing else holding it in place. Putting the new bulb in is not difficult because it should have a flat side on its base which keys it to the slot. Re-apply the clip, screw on the cover, and you're done. If you have trouble (and a manual), the manual is actually quite helpful. (I was surprised by it.)

How do you replace door mirror indicator lens on Subaru Outback 2006?
The Side Turn Signal Light is a LED so you need to replace the assembly. In order to do so, you need first to remove the mirror by prying it out from the 2 clips at the bottom and second to remove the Scalp Cap (front part of mirror) by pressing out on the 6 clips that holds it in place, starting with the 2 on top. The LED assembly is held down by 2 screws. Plenty of patience is required. Good luck.....
How do you know when to replace brake pads and not pads and rotars?
well, if your pads are worn down, then replace them. Most brakes will start squeaking when turnnig corner and then start all the time, its that way so you know its time to change the pads. If the rotor looks wavey, not flat then the rotor needs work. If you take it to a autoshop that does brakes they can tell you how bad they are, if its not too bad then they can "turn" your rotors, or smooth them out, which is cheaper then replacing them, but if its too bad they will have to be replaced. The longer you drive on worn pads, the more damage can be done to the rotors, If you get to the point where when you step on the brakes and you hear a grinding noise, they both will need to be replaced, but if it gets that bad you may want to take it into a shop to make sure they isn't any other damage to the brake. Also if the worn out pads aren't flat or if the brake pad, not the steel backing is thick in some spots and almost gone in other spot the alinment of the brake pad may be off when you step on the brake, wearing out your breakpads earlier then they should, you might want to get it fixed as well.

How do repair the seat heater in a Subaru Outback?

How do you remove the inside door panel in a 1999 Subaru Outback wagon?
On the handle for the door there is a screw located outside & below the interior handle. Behind the door release lever there is another screw. Both are covered with a plastic cap that prys off. (On the non-outback at least there is a pry out button/connector at the forward edge of the door panel.) After removing all the above; get your fingers tightly on the bottom and pull out, the plastic clips will make a poping noise. Once all the plastic clips are removed gently push the pannel upward while gigaling it. Becareful of the door handle, it has to come out of the door pannel so you have to move the door pannel sideways to let it out. Also becareful of wires for electric windows and electric door locks.

What is the purpose of a cv joint on a 2000 Subaru Outback?
Just a guess... but the constant velocity joint maintains appropriate speed on the wheel while in a turn.
No. Unless you have a dremel tool, patience, some epoxy, and local (commercial) electronics parts dealer (not Radio Shack). Buy a switch off a wreck. It's way easier.
It's possibly from a sticking brake that is making the car's computer sensor think that you're slowing down, therefor down-shifting. I just got a 97 legacy wagon with similar problems, a friend pointed out that my front left brake was hot after less than two miles of driving and said that this could fool the computer. I am broke and can't go to a mechanic yet, so I don't know if this info is correct or not. I hope I'm not steering you wrong, good luck with your problem.
How do you change a water pump in a 1999 Subaru Outback Legacy?
Water pump is run by the timing belt. So, you have to do everything required to replace the timing belt plus a few more capscrews that hold the pump in. These should be done at the same time, 10 years or 100,000 miles, which ever comes first.

Where is the trans filter located on 2011 subaru outback 5eat?
Unless there are problems with the transmission you do not need to do anything with transmission filter. Although I am not familiar with your specific transmission, Subaru includes a drain plug on the side of their transmissions. Drain fluid once a year and refill. Mine is the 4 speed and it takes 4 quarts to refill. This does not by any means remove all of the oil, but you will remove any sediment in the pan and will add fresh seal conditioners. Do this yearly and, barring abuse, your transmission will last the life of the car. Your transmission uses a special fluid that sells for about $5 to $8 a quart. Do not use standard Dexron type fluid.
Sounds like the brakes are shot! At this point I wouldn't want you to drive any further than your closest repair garage.
