Turbo and Superchargers

Turbo and superchargers are engine components that pump pressurized air into the engine via a compressor. Their function is to increase the power generated by the engine by providing it with increased air pressure inside the cylinders.

What kind of hp does a chevy1500 1990 305 motor block have and can you put a turbo on it to give it more horse power and What is the out put going to be?

305 was a sucky engine from the factory only had 145hp gutless wonder even with 4 barrel or throttle body Fool injection .:) It and the early 307's were mainly used for California smog requirments:( how ever Performance Built 305 is respecitable and with a turbo it would B a head turner and with nitrous OH YEA!! But stock 2 weak of an engine. Would not be able 2 run much boost with out boom klunk klunk problems. More boost more power. The new 5.3L (323CDI)HP 99-2005 model year. Is a really great engine if u want power. U can get a brand new Crate engine Not rebuilt for about $2,995 not from the dealer their twice that. www.rebuilt-auto-engines.com\Chevy-small-block-engine.HTML look it up they have a good track record.

How much horsepower does a turbocharger give you?

Adding a turbo to a non turbo engine, on pump gas usually adds 30% non intercooled up to a 50% increase for kits with intercooler. The type of the motor also has a bearing on the output, High compression motors limit the amount of boost the motor is able to run on with pump gas. That is why turbo motors have compression ratio 1-1.5points lower, 8-9.5cr. When designed properly a 2L can make 200hp N/A can make 400hp when boosted.

Is turbo faster than supercharger?

It depends on model, a tiny t25 turbo isn't going to push enough air as say a 6 lobe 2.3L supercharger of the ls9 in the ZR1 corvette.

How do you boost the turbo on a 1985 Dodge Daytona Turbo?

there should be a ajusting sleve (looks like a nut) on the wastegate rod....the wastegate is the round deal on the turbo with a rod on it....and it has a vac line on it from the manifold....it controls how much and when the wastegate opens....and how much boost the turbo will produce....hope this helps....dave

go to the dodgegarage.com go to turbo database and look how to convert a t1 to t2 then go to a hardware or pet store and get a aqurieum bypass valve (metal no plastic will melt in heat of engine) hook it up in the vacum hose that goes to the wastegate (be sure to have a a/f gauge and 20 psi boost gage) close the valve completely and then start making little turns drive after each one till u here a knocking sound (detination) and your a/f gauge goes red during boost turn down till the knocking stops at full boost. i have a 88 dodge daytona that ran safely 16-17psi with out detinating. if you dont want to convert to t2 then due the same thing to your present car my 85 lancer t1 with ran at 14psi of boost. if u want to know more spoolinlancer85@aol.com

I had a really nice 1985 back in the late 80's and one day the rubber waste-gate control hose got a hole in it...wouldn't open the gate so it stayed tight shut and would peg the boost gauge! Full Boost and hold on...had so much fun I drove it that way for a few days but was careful not to give it full throttle with that much boost...didn't need to anyhow as just lightly pressing on the gas was equivalent to full throttle before!!!..Did replace the hose as I got nervous I was gonna pop the engine:) Indiana... What is the difference between a blower for a car engine and a super charger?

The name blower comes from a type of supercharger, the roots supercharger actually, this is because unlike centrifugal or twin screw superchargers the roots does not pressurizes the air in the super charger. It ?blows? it into the manifold where in then creates pressure. They are actually the same thing. Turbos are different, but superchargers and blowers are the same. That said, there are different types of blowers too, like centrifugal or vane type. Hope that helps! One other note, don't confuse a blower for a term that refers to blower motor or heater fan for a blower/supercharger. They aren't exactly the same although they do the same thing (forcing induction). They are driven by different methods and have different operating characteristics. Superchargers are driven by a belt, while turbochargers capture part of the exhaust gases from the engine and use it to drive the turbocharger. Both force additional air into the engine to increase HP.

What kind of a transmission do you have on a Chevy Turbo diesel 25oo 6.5L engine?

If it is a automatic its is the hydramatic 4l80e if it is a manual transmission it is a v 4500

Can you put a turbo and a supercharger in an 87' Firebird?

no, Turbos and SC's are an either or thing... not compatible with each other, well not convetionally... I'm sure there isa custom way to do it if your stubborn enough to put alot of money into it but even if you could it wouldn't do any exponential increase in HP.

Why there is a fuel smell after hard pull on a turbo car?

must have a small leak somewhere http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?UseCase=S001&UserAction=viewSimpleDiagInfo&Parameters=info your car is not burning all fuel supplied to engine i would have turbo checked . a turbo recycles unburnt gases from the exhaust unburnt fuel leaves engine as a gas and enters exhaust system. fix may be as simple as having computer recalibrated to deal with the amount of fuel supplied to engine

Will the 3800 engine run without the supercharger belt?

Yes it will I had a tensioner pulley give out on mine that had to be replaced due to having an incorrect belt, and incorrect routing. I ran for over a week while I waited for the proper belt, and replacement pulley to get to me. The Supercharger does indeed make a difference in power, but if you have to run without it you'll be ok. I wouldn't bypass the supercharger on purpose because it may even decrease your gas mileage, but again the car will run without it if need be.

11/11/07 -After 10 years of ownership, and 30 minutes of running my GTP without the supercharger belt, I believe it will continue to run successfully at a greater level naturally aspirated. I will report the results as they come...

05 stratus oil light comes on when braking?

Check the oil level, right away. The light can come on if it is very low and you brake. Oil sloshes forward when braking. And if it this low, you can damage your engine.

It is common on these cars for the oil pressure sensor to fail and fill the electrical connector with oil.

Can you fit a supercharger in a Holden HSV w427?

Yes- Whipple, magnuson, magna, vortech, pro charger, edelbrock all make a supercharger kit for the ls7.

Can you supercharge a four cylinder engine?

yes you can supercharge anything it just depends how bad you want it to happen. all you would have to in make a custom intake manifold for whatever kind of car you have.. make sure the supercharger is in line with your belt system and it would work. you would probably have to change your fuel injecters and fueling system but its very possible to do... im workin on superchargerin my dodge neon lol

Will a turbo 400 shift its self?

A turbo 400 is an automatic transmission, so yes, it will shift itself, unless someone has put in a manual valve body or transmission brake -- both of which are mainly used by racers.

Could anything from an intercooler cause damage to a turbo?

From an Intercooler- no, intercooler is down stream. If a hose blew off, the turbo might go into surge and if prolonged can cause damage. If something got sucked into a none filtered intake tube -yes, or elevated EGT due to damaged exhaust/ cracked manifold - yes. Main damage would be poor oiling, or miss sized turbo.

Can you have a turbo in your car without intercooler?

yes but your air intake temp will be hotter, which will cause pinging ( detonation) this will damage the pistons and cylinders. to stop pinging you must lower the boost pressure and retard the timing.this will cause a major loss off power. if you are set you are not going to use a intercooler, you can try a water injection system this will help with detonation.if you want real performance a i/cooler is advised.more boost = more hp

How does the eaton supercharger release boost?

Newer models have a bypass valve to lower parasitic power lose during cruising.

How much hp does a wastegate turbocharger give typically?

This isn't a very well phrased question as you could mean how much horsepower does adding a turbocharger produce, or you could mean how much horsepower do you get from replacing a factory wastegate on a turbocharger with an aftermarket one. However, neither of those questions can be answered concisely without specifics of the application.

Can you intercooler a non turbo car?

The need for an intercooler is solely Dependant on the turbo blowers. As the blowers are pushing more air into the combustion chamber, the air becomes less dense as it becomes heated through the movement through the turbos. Intercoolers function to drop the temperature of incoming air into the turbos so that when the air is forced into the combustion chamber it is cooler and more dense, hence, creating a better situation for combustion. As the air is not being pumped into the combustion chamber and simply aspirating naturally, there is no need to cool the air before a heating cycle that isn't present in a non-turbo engine. Intercoolers, however, do look really awesome.

Is full bore gate valve is different from normal gate valve?

valves are available in three types first is full bore equal to 100 percent opening

normal bore/port equal to 80 percent opening

reduced bore equal to 60 percent opening

Can you turbo a k20a?

Pretty much any engine can be equipped with a turbo, but if it's fairly average car that's also available in a turbo version the sensibe thing is to get one with the turbo already installed. It's not only a turbo you need, but quite a lot of other bits as well, getting it all together can be real pricey.

Where can you buy a supercharger for a 2007 Toyota Tundra?

Can you put a supercharger on a Chevy Trailblazer?

The only Trailblazer kit I know of is for the Trailblazer SS with the 6.0L engine, and MagnaCharger makes it. Look into a turbo kit. The inline 6 makes lots of low end torque, so there would be little to no noticeable turbo lag. I've seen kits for them.

Can the supercharger on a 1994 Oldsmobile be removed altogether and if so will this require any modifications?

Yes, the supercharger on a 1994 Oldsmobile can be removed altogether. However, this will likely require modifications to the intake and exhaust systems, as well as adjustments to the engine's tuning to accommodate the changes in airflow and performance. Additionally, you may need to replace or modify components such as the intake manifold, belts, and possibly the engine management system to ensure proper operation after the removal.

Why turbocharger overspeed?

Overspeed is usually the result of too small of a turbine housing/wheel used.
