How do you measure the oil level in a VW Passat?

I take it that you only meant the engine oil not the transmission. (Transmission fluid level is really messy/fiddly and I recommend that you read the procedure outlined by ZF before you try it yourself). Engine oil level ... open the hood and look around for a small yellow (or orange) coloured plastic loop about an inch in diameter. It will be poking up between the plastic inlet manifold pipes. Pull up gently on this, yes, you can actually break these..lol. Wipe the residual oil off the dipstick with a lint-free rag or paper towel and re-insert and withdraw. The oil should be at the upper mark. Add oil as necessary to bring the oil up to the recommended level, but don't get impatient and over-fill. (The oil filler cap is located in the middle of the plastic cowl covering the engine). The filler cap is often tight but it releases by a quarter turn anti-clockwise. If the dipstick or the funnel into which it fits are damaged replace them both to avoid constant oil loss. Check the oil cold with the vehicle parked on a level surface. Top up with a recent SAE/API specification oil appropriate for your season/location. (I think that this would be SJ or later, check with your lube vendor).

How do you check cambelt on Volkswagen Golf iv tdi?

I need to change the cambelt on my '03 Golf IV TDi, but i don't want to do so purely on the recomendation of the local dealer, as I don't trust their motives! (I firmly believe they'll sell me one even if it was brand new!) Having said this,I really don't want it to break either. Is there a honest mechanic out there that will tell me: What happens when it does break on this (1.9 TDi) model? (I've heard everything from"nothin" to "mayhem") What are the REAL chargeable hours on this job? Are there any special tools involved? ( My best mate's a Landrover mac, and he reckons we could do this if we have the spec tools) Where and how do you check the belt to tell if it needs replacement? I don't mind having to change it, I would just like someone with a pure motive to tell me what the drill is here!

How old webley mk3 supertarget?

The Mk3 supertarget was made between 1946 and 1975. If it has Parker Hale sights and a nicely shaped and checkered loading tap lever its an early one. If it has a plain loading tap lever and PH sights its in the middle and the later ones had Anschutz sights, and no brass box on the pistol grip to hold PH inserts. It is difficult to be more precise from serial numbers as there is not the logical sequence found on some other makes.

What is a sponsors exemption?

A sponsors exemption is where the sponsor of the tournament can choose a player (possibly a promising amateur or fan favourite) who would other wise not be exempt to play in that event, and give them a spot in the tournament. The amount of sponsors exemptions is limited per event, and you would only see them in the smaller events, never a major.

Do you need a special tool to change wheel bearings?

the answers so far assume that you are dealing with an old rear wheel drive car or a not so new truck ---- the newer vehicles by in large have hubs and not separate bearings which would mean I would have to know which vehicle you are working on to give adviceI assume by wheel bearings you mean the bearings on the inside of your front rotors or rear drums (not axle bearings)? If so, you can get by with a hammer and punch. Most rotors will have a recessed area on the backside of the bearing race. You can tap on the backside of the race to remove it. Make sure to alternate between sides, the idea is to remove it evenly.

To install, I like to use the old race to start the new one, make sure it goes in square and once started you can finish with the punch and hammer. It will sound different once the race seats. Be careful not to strike the roller surface!

Always replace races and cones in matched pairs. Don't mix them up, or put new cones in with old races or vice versa.

All that being said, a bearing tool with different diameter aluminum drivers to help remove and install the new races is really cheap and makes the job much easier.

Also, before installing the races, put them in the freezer for an hour and leave the rotors out in the sun. That will give you an extra thou or two which makes installation that much easier.

Yes, a set of bearing tools with different diameter aluminum drivers is a great help, and I use mine with great success. In addition to the bearing tools, another trick I learned is to use a hard rubber Hockey Puck (available at most sporting goods stores) and use it to drive home bearing races, without fear of damage to either the race or the wheel. It works very well.

Of course, the trick is to start the race or bearing as straight as possible relative to the opening and channel it will be entering. The clearances are usually so tight, that any twist or tilt in any part of the bearing or race will cause some binding, and prevent proper seating of the bearing parts.

Follow the top radiator hose down to the water outlet. It is in the water outlet. Mark

I might be wrong but it depends on the engine. I do know for5 a fact that the thermostat on the 2.0 is located in the water pump outlet near the bottom of the engine.

Where do you put the gearbox fluid in a vw golf mk4?

Hi mate had same problem a few months ago. It is located behind front near side (passenger) wheel trim on the side of the gear box. It is a round plug with a quite large alen key fitting. You have to put the car on axel stands on level ground. Remove the n/s wheel and plastic wheel arch liner to see the gear box filling plug. Remove the plug with an alen key (maybe 8 or 10mm) and fill with gearbox oil until it is level with bottom threads of the plug (do not overfil).

Has your gearbox lost all of it's oil? are the gears noisey or whirring at high speed? Is your clutch slipping? cos it could be that you have a hole in your gearbox (very common problem on mk4's ) If it has done more than 60k and your gearbox number starts DUU or DUW (can be located on white sticker near spare wheel or top of gearbox behind green/black inspection plug) then i would wager the gearbox has a hole in it!
