What does code 2181 mean on a 2003 VW beetle?

i believe that a cooling system performance issue. make sure your coolant isn't low, or need to be changed. I would also check for leaks within the coolant lines, since 03's are known to have coolant line issues.

hope that helps. good luck!

Can you flat tow a 1998 vw beetle?

VW says it's not allowed, so I wouldn't. Fluid circulating through the transmission while the engine is running cools it, so they're afraid you'll burn the trans out by flat towing it. OTOH, some RV people flat-tow these behind motor coaches and don't have problems. Me? If I HAD to flat tow a Beetle, the CV halfshafts would be in the trunk. Then there would be no way to damage anything.

What alternative carburetors are available for a VW Beetle 1600?

There are a lot of different ones. It depends on what you are looking for. Do you want a setup that is good for daily driving, something that is great for the dragstrip, or in between? For Daily drivers, there is the 2 barrel Progressive Weber center-mount carb. It has a primary barrel for normal driving and a 2nd barrel for when you need to open the throttle. There is also the dual single barrel carbs setup, like the dual Weber ICT's, which gives you more power, but won't break you in fuel consumption. For racing, there are the dual Weber 48 IDA's. These can be bored out to about 51.5. This setup is not practical for daily driving, but if properly setup and tuned, will be pretty quick. If you're going with this setup, though, I'd recommend getting an engine with a larger displacement, like a 1776cc or higher. For something in between, there is the Dual Weber 40 or 44 IDF's. It will give you some get up and go without being too terrible on gas. It all depends on how mild or wild you want to get (and how fat your wallet is!). The 1600 dual port is a very versatile engine that can be modified in a lot of different ways, depending on what is important to you.

How do you change the tail and brake lamp assembly on a 1999 VW Beetle?

ON EITHER SIDE OF TRUNK CONPARTMENT YOU WILL SEE A CIRCULAR SHAPED ACCESS TRIM,THROUGH THERE A PLASTIC SPEED NUT CAN BE SEEN,UNSCREW AND GENTLE PULL BACK THE LENSE (TOWARDS THE OUTSIDE ,THE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY SHOULD FOLLOW,UNSCREW LIGHT SOCKET AND CHANGE BULB.

To elaborate on this, there is a clip on the inside edge (toward the hatch lid) that will let you pull the light assembly out. Put a small skinny screwdriver under the rubber gasket at the point that the two fender pieces join and push firmly. This will pop the clip and the tail light assembly can be pulled out.

How do you replace headlight bulb on 1999 blazer?

(I think this is for the 1999 model, certainly close to this year)

Read the manual on page 213. Here is my version:

1. Pop the hood

2. Look straight down onto the light. Shift your gaze six inches back, so you are looking down the back side of the frame element. You will see two vertical black plastic strips, with vertical slots. Pull each one up by the tab sticking up at the top. They should come up and out easily.

3. The headlight assembly was attached with two plugs sticking through the black strips that you removed. With these strips removed, the plugs are free to retract. Pull the headlight assembly straight out towards the front, just a few inches. It should come out easily. It will still be attached to the electrical wiring.

4. Detach the three electrical connectors (high-beam, low-beam, blinker). Some may have a plastic tab that needs to be depressed.

5. Now remove the headlight assembly completely.

To replace the high-beam (marked 9005) or low-beam (marked 9006), twist the black L-shaped bulb base to the left, then pull it out. Remove the new bulb from its packaging, taking care not to touch the glass with your fingers (oil and other residue may cause it to burn out prematurely), put it in and twist it to the right. Re-attach all the correct electrical wiring, insert the headlight assembly, pushing the two plugs through to the back, then slide the black plastic strips down until they lock the rubber plugs into place firmly.

Hope this helps.

How do you change the front head lights on a VW Beetle?

Open the hood and look at the side of the headlamp mounting assembly under the hood. On the side is a hooked lever (a finger fits in the curved part). Rotate the lever to release the headlamp assembly and pull it out the front of the fender. Replace the bulb from the back of the assembly. You might have to pull hard, as it has conductive grease on it to help hold it in place. After the build is replaced, push assembly back into fender and rotate lever the oppostie way to lock the assembly back in place.

How do you change spark plugs on a 1995 Chevy Lumina?

Chevy Lumina Spark Plugs
  • What you need to do on this automobile is to take off each pluge wire take a deep well 5/8 socket and two small extisions then turn to your left this will losend them on the front on the back of the motor you will have to lose your moter mounts on the front of the car the two black thing there are one bolt per side take them completely out then rock the motor forward then you will be able to get to the back spark plugs
  • You may also access them by removing the alternator.
  • Tilting the engine forward is a pain in the butt and risks breaking/stressing lines/connections. Still a pain, but easier, is removing the alternator. Disconnect the battery. Remove serpentine belt from the alternator by slacking back the tension pulley. Remove the front bolt on the alternator, tilt the alternator back to access the rear bolt. Once alternator is removed, access to the plugs is still tight, but you can reach behind the engine with the necessary tools (you will need extensions for your ratchet wrench) to get to the plugs. Just finished this job about 10 minutes ago. No wonder the car was missing on my 1990. Found gaps to be .055 - .075. For my year and model (3.1 sedan) gaps should be .035
  • I just changed plugs on my 95, and I didn't have to remove or move anything. You will need the right length extension for the rear plugs. (possibly two short extensions together) I would recommend applying anti-seize to the plug threads before installing them. You might also want to change one at a time to avoid accidently mixing up the plug wires. This was a car with a 3.1 engine, other engines may be different.
  • Changing spark plugs on Chevy Lumina 3.1 engines or similar: To do this job car must be in neutral. loosen motor mounts. Take bolts holding engine out. at the bottom of right motor mount is a guide hole. the front mounts should be loose so you can raise them. When rear bolts are out take a pry bar or facsimile pull motor forward attach bolt or facsimile to hole at bottom of the motor mount to hold engine in place. When finish installing plugs or whatever it is that you need to get this clearance. You do the reverse to get engine back in position. Remember car must be in neutral to do this correctly.

Safe yourself a load of time and trouble, plus about $300 dollars. Just remove the Alternator and the air filter and you will have all the access you are going to get even if you tried it from under side. But be careful with all the little electrical moduals and vacume hoses when removing the air filter. Oh, and one last thing about replacing the alternator belt. Look n the tention pully arm, and you will see a square 3/8 hole. Just put your 3/8 drive or socket in there and left until you can replace the belt..! If you are 71 and retired, this will get you abck in shape.

What is the red G warning light on a 1971 beetle?

It is for the Generator (or Alternator). If it comes on while you're driving, it usually means the fan belt broke. If you do not pull over to the side of the road right now and put the new belt you carry - you should ALWAYS carry a spare fan belt!!! - on the car, your engine will melt because the cooling fan is bolted to the end of the alternator shaft.

How do you reset the engine light on 2000 beetle?

Take the battery cables off for 20 minutes. This hold true on all makes and models on all cars. But this does not fix your problem that made your engine light to come on in the first place. You must first make sure that is taken care of first.

How do you change the spark plugs on a 2003 Kia Optima?

on th etop of the motor remove the plastic cover. it will give you access to the coils and plugs. Using a 10mm socket, remove the engine cover. All 4 plugs are in the center of the block. Two are really easy to find, the other two need to be removed after you remove the cover on top. You will need a 10mm socket to gain access to them. Don't forget your extender when changing the plugs.

How do you drive a 1973 vw bug?

With pride, glee, and 10PSI more air in the back tires than in the front. The air part is the most important - because the engine is hanging off the back of the car, control is gained by putting more tire in the back than in the front. You can either put wider tires back there, like Porsche and Lamborghini do, or blow up the tires harder.

How do you change the spark plugs on a 2004 Malibu 2.2 ecotech?

To change the spark plug, you must take out the old ones and put the new ones in using a wrench. It is easier to change them one at a time so that you do not mix up the order.
