How do you take the starter off a 1973 beetle?
Unhook your battery. Reach behind the fan shroud on the right side of the car with a 17mm wrench and feel around until you find the top nut. Try to take it off. If it doesn't come off, keep this in mind. Jack up the car, put jackstands under it, put yourself under it and unhook the battery cable and bendix wire. If you got the top nut completely off, remove the bottom nut, then slip the starter out of the car. If it DIDN'T come off, clamp a set of vise-grips to the bolt at the top of the starter, then crawl out, remove the top nut, crawl back under, remove the bottom nut and take the starter out. If you had to do the vise-grips thing, take the top bolt to a machinist to have a 1/4" bolt welded sideways to the head of the starter bolt. In operation, the bolt welded sideways will hit the transmission case the first time you try tightening the nut to it, it will turn no further, and you can tighten it right up.

P.S. The number 7 slot is an unassigned slot for things such as a radio and such but keep a spare 8 ampere fuse there for a rainy day as you will need it soon enough.

Remove the plastic cover that is to the oil filler cap, it will a torx bit. Be careful when removing the Spark plug wires the coils are connected to them and they arre bolted down. You will need a 8" extension to get the plugs out, I think you will need a 5/8 spark plug socket. Remove old plugs. gap new plugs and install in reverse as removing them.
Replace fuel line on 1972 vw superbeetle?
the fuel line from the tank to the engine bay runs from the bottom of the fuel tank, down the inside of the tunnel that houses the shifting mechanism, and exits out the top of the transmission mount. as far as replacing it is concerned...the fuel line from the front of the body until the exit at the transmission mount is metal, and shouldn't need to be replaced; but if you do find it necessary to replace it you're looking at a lot of cutting and welding.

What is the purpose of air flow meter in car?
The air flow meter in a car tells the engine management computer how much air the cars engine is using. This is important because the fuel to air ratio must be maintained for proper combustion of the fuel. If there is too little fuel for the amount of air, the engine will tend to stutter misfire and accelerate poorly. If there is too much fuel for the amount of air, the engine will smoke, have poor efficiency , high emissions, and also have poor performance. When the computer in in "closed loop" operation, it calculates how much fuel to deliver based on the measurement received from the air flow meter. The computer is smart and many can calculate what the air flow is supposed to be without the air flow meter being hooked up. The engine rpm, manifold pressure and temperature can be used to get a very close estimate of the air flow at the lower engine rpm range. Sometimes the computer operates in "open loop" and does such calculation. Open loop takes place in some cars when the car just starts and is warming up, or if there is a problem with some part of the system, so you can still operate the vehicle. The oxygen sensor on a car is also used while in the closed loop mode to assist in determining how much fuel to inject. The injectors control the fuel by opening and closing very fast, the longer the injector is open, the more fuel. Fuel pressure upstream of the injector is held constant, in that way the fuel delivered is directly proportion to the amount of time that the injector is open.

In your VW manual you should have received a booklet that pertains to the radio. Written on the inside front cover of that booklet is a 4 digit number. If you do not have this booklet you will need to call VW to get the code (I don't know if there is a cost associated with this or not.) When you turn your radio on (usually after interupting power to the vehicle) you will get a "safe" message on the radio face plate. After 3 seconds you will get 4 numbers. Enter the assigned 4 digit number by using the preset radio buttons 1-4. Once you get the number in, push the ">" portion of the "scan" button until you get an audible "beep." Your radio should be back in business.
