How do you rename an external hard drive?

you can only rename partitions when unmounted. So what I would try is to unmount the drive, fire up GParted and rename the partition.

But you could also connect it to a windows box and do it from there. But then you would need a windows box, and not everyone has that readily available

Why is NTFS not compatible with Windows 98?

NTFS is designed for multi-user versions of Windows; most of its features are security-oriented and would be of no benefit on a single-user version, such as Windows 98. NTFS requires more processing power to use than FAT32, and using it would mean you couldn't boot the computer in MS-DOS mode, as MS-DOS didn't have NTFS support either, and DOS programs that try to access the file system directly wouldn't work.

In other words, using NTFS would have made Windows 98 slower and made a lot of older programs unusable.

There are tools that can be used to access an NTFS partition from Windows 98 if necessary. NTFS-specific features are still unusable, and there are usually other limits, such as on file size.

What is bio-piracy?

Biopiracy is the illegal appropriation of life -- microorganisms, plants and animals (including humans) -- and the traditional cultural knowledge that accompanies it. Biopiracy is illegal because, in violation of international conventions and (where these exist) corresponding domestic laws, it does not recognize, respect or adequately compensate the rightful owners of the life forms appropriated or the traditional knowledge related to their propagation, use and commercial benefit. Biopiracy commonly operates through the application of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) (primarily patents) to genetic resources and traditional knowledge.

How does a java program differ when run on windows 98 and windows 2000?

Theoretically, it shouldn't, at least when running Sun's version of Java. However, Windows 2000 included Microsoft's customized version. If a program took advantage of the additional features that Microsoft added, it might not be capable of running on other platforms, including Windows 98.

What are the unique features of a flagship?

It is the vessel that the fleet commander (usually a Flag officer or Admiral) uses while commanding. It is his office at sea and the location where his flag is flown, therefore it is temporary site. It usually provides added space for his staff and enhanced communications equipment. In war, an admiral has the choice to fly his flag from any ship that he wants. Admiral Perry's motto was "Don't Give Up the Ship," but he won the Battle of Lake Erie by doing exactly that, and transferring his flag to another ship after his flagship was put out of action.

Will ecu compouter make car shut down?

Not sure on your'e question here. The ECU controls most of the electrical components of the modern day care, air flow, fuel mixture, idle speed, etc... If you remove the ecu, sure the car won't start.

If your ECU becomes damaged by an electrical fault or something else, most times it will switch into "crawl home" mode where the car has very limited speed. Our old Magna blew it's ECU after jump starting too many cars the wrong way and we had no working gauges on the dashboard, the engine ran poorly and we "crawled" home at 35 km/hr.

Now if the ECU is connected to an immobilizer, then it also will not allow the car to start unless the immobilizer is disarmed. Some models can be deactivated by key if the remote stops working, and some can be simply disconnected. However, leave it to the pro's as ECU's are expensive to replace.
