You don't for newer vehicles. There is a small grid partway down the gas tank filler pipe which prevents normal sized plastic tubing from going all the way down to the gas. On older vehicles, or if you want to risk damaging or even blowing up the newer car (and yourself) by poking that grid out of the way with a longish hard metal rod, you can drop a plastic tube down into the tank, then, keeping a longish loop of it outside the car below the level of the gas filler opening so you can see when the gas starts to come out, suck vigorously on the end of the plastic tube until you see the loop starting to fill with gas. Then stop sucking unless you want your stomach pumped and/or risk cancer from getting gas in your mouth.

Pinch closed, then take the end of the loop that you've been sucking on and put it into the container you've been keeping nearby to contain the gas that you're syphoning out.

Straighten out the part of the tube outside the car so that the gas in the above mentioned longish loop now starts to flow into the container, drawing more gas out of the car's tank while doing so. The opening of the container must be below the level of the bottom of the gas tank of the car. Also, unless the aforementioned loop had its lowest point below the level of the bottom of the gas tank, you may have to keep pinching shut the end of the tube that you were sucking on while you are straightening out the loop and inserting the end of the tube into your container.

1st, chase the threads in the block with a thread chaser (not a tap), next be sure the head bolt threads are clean, then dip the bolt into clean motor oil, let it drip off then torque to your heart's content.

remember to follow the head bolt tightening sequence (generally middle of head and then outward toward each end.

run the engine to operating temperature, shut it off and re-torque the bolts. This answer assumes (factory, iron heads, no aluminum heads. Bolts for aluminum heads MUST have steel washers between the bolt and the head. Good luck. Do it right or you will be replacing a head gasket (AGAIN).

I like to put Indian Head shellac compound on the head bolt threads to be sure water doesn't travel up the threads.

Turn off the ignition. Remove the small bolts at the terminals with a socket wrench to allow the fuse to be removed. Replace and put bolts back on.

Turn the engine until the #1 plug is at TDC on the compression stroke. Mark the distributor at that location. Install the new distributor and turn until you are at the exact same location. Have the timing checked after you get it started.

there is a tsb (technical service bulletin) out for this problem. the wiper motor bracket tab has bent or broken off. there is a new one avaliable, or ive had some luck bending the old one back up. good luck.

There are several different possibilities. If it is coming from the engine compartment, I would take it to a mechanic as soon as possible. Check your oil, make sure it is clean and topped off. I work in an auto repair shop, and almost every vehicle that comes in with an engine knock has been driven with low oil, and severely damaged the engine. Most likely, you will need to overhaul or replace the engine. I would recommend replacement, there is almost always less problems that way. If you can afford it, I would go with a Jasper product. They are amazing. We install dozens of them every year, and we have never encountered a problem with them. They have fabulous warranties, and they live-run all their engines before shipping them out. You won't regret it. I put a Jasper engine in my 1973 GMC Jimmy, and it runs perfectly smooth, and full of power.
