Why is the literacy rate so low in turkey?

There are a number of reasons why literacy is worse in the Moslem World. It is important to note, however, that a number of the problems faced in the Moslem World are not restricted to the Moslem World. Much of the Developing World faces similar problems as concerns literacy.

1) Arabic Writing: Arabic is a difficult language to learn how to write for a variety reasons. Firstly, Arabs currently only write in proper Arabic which is a language that few if any Arabs speak as a mother tongue. (The English equivalent of proper Arabic would be Shakespearean.) Secondly, the modern dialects have no corresponding or agreed-upon spelling techniques or language academies to standardize them and creates confusion when trying to write something because neither the proper Arabic alphabet or the Roman alphabet can accommodate all sounds in the dialects. (This lack of organization is similar to the non-Castillian languages of Spain before 1900.) Thirdly, governments in the Arab World actively resist the institution of academies and mechanisms to standardize and write the dialects because of the persistence of Arab Nationalism and the fear that if Arabs acknowledge that they speak different languages, they will lack unity. Finally, the Arabic script itself has various physical forms that the letters can take and is a consonantal language, making spelling difficult to master.

2) Large Rural Populations: Many Moslems live outside of the cities and main sources of education. Even in those places where schools exist in rural areas, they rarely have books in enough quantity to teach kids how to read properly.

3) Reading is Not Condoned: Many Moslems see reading as a leisure activity that normal people should not do except possibly on vacation. It is time wasted that could be spent earning more money or looking after their families. Moslem leaders (like Imams and Clerics) do not tell their congregations the value of reading non-religious texts and community elders prefer oral transmission of stories. Greece translates more books into Greek annually (11 million people) than the entire Arab World (>300 million people) in the same time frame.

What are the similarities of primary sources and secondary sources?

Both convey information, neither is an absolute objective source (some people conflate "primary" with "truth," and bias/ignorance extisted when this took place), and sometimes a source can be both primary or secondary.

What factors contribute to illiteracy?

The Causes of Illiteracy

Nowadays, there are a lot of causes of illiteracy. For my opinion, there are three main point causes of illiteracy such as socially problems, family problems, and motivational problems.
The most important cause of illiteracy is socially problems. Actually, some develop country is not care education for their countryside. Especially, there is a little school in my countryside at Viet Nam. The countryside's children do have not enough school for their studying. Furthermore, they have not conditions such as money and traffic for their learning because their family have not tuition for their and is very far with their school.
Another cause of illiteracy is family problems. The first is history family, that mean is if their parents are worker, they also are worker. They don't care about their education. For example, I have known some family at my countryside. Parents are worker for my family. Their salaries are just enough family's life. Their children can not go to school. They just learn their working. After that, they become worker.
Finally, the motivation is also cause of illiteracy. Nowadays, there are a lot of entertainments, which the children are very excited, don't like to go the school. Specifically, almost children who have lived at center city have a lot of new entertainment for them. They spend their time for there and don't care their learning. Moreover, almost people don't have literacy because they don't have plan for your future. They just think about their life in the present. For instance, I used to think to learn mayor and work about my life in the present. I didn't learn more English because I didn't think I go the USA. That is big mistake in my life. Now, I have to try to learn English very hard more than the other people.
Consequently, the popular causes of illiteracy are socially problems, family problem, and motional problems. However, if we fix problems, we would have education in our life and without people is illiteracy.

EFFECTS OF ILLITERACY ON SOCIETY

Recent studies show that there is an increasing rate of illiteracy all over the world.A study conducted by WSI(World Statistics Institute) shows that over 27% of people are illiterate globaly. Another study by the same institute shows that the speed at which illiteracy rate ascends is 32%. These rates are quite important, as illiteracy has terrible effects on society.
The most important effect of illiteracy on society is that, it works as an inhibitor. That is to say, the more illiterate people there are in a country, the harder it will be for the country to develop. This fact could be clarified with an example: America(whose illiteracy rate is below 5%) and Canada(Illiteracy rate: around 8%) are developed countries, whereas countries, like Turkey and Iran(Illiteracy rates: 61% and 43% in order) are undeveloped countries.
Illiteracy has got a kind of "genetic" effect. The children of illiterate people are more likely to be illiterate that those who aren't. Even if the parents don't want their children to be illiterate, their children, observing the parents, see that they somehow manage to live and adopt the idea that illiteracy isn't actually a bad thing. And since people develop most of their character during childhood, they choose to go with illiteracy.
Another major effect of illiteracy is that, illiterate people believe in the said things easily. They do not investigate what was said or told to them. When looked at the pages of history, it can be seen that, while most uneducated people are slaves, guardians and assistants; people who are educated are mostly kings, quenns and sultans. They are not slaves because they wanted, but because people superior to them -in terms of education- made them so.
All these significant results of illiteracy affect society in a bad way. So, illiteracy rates must be tried to cut down.

When there were no televisions, or computers what was the primary leisure activity? Of course, it was reading! People would spend lot of time reading books and travels to lands far away- in their minds. But now most of us we have lost the skill and passion to read. Aside from books, today we have many other exciting and thrilling options available such as computer games, play station games. Friends, this is a shame, because reading offers a productive approach to improve vocabulary and word power.

Reading is really like taking a flight to high altitudes in search of information and knowledge. It is a journey in search of enlightenment.

To me, the best hobby in the world is reading books, it can be about the ancient history, or the modern world, or it can be about disasters, or magic. A good book is more than a companion. When we are alone, it derives out our loneliness; when we need advice, it gives us; when our heart is heavy, it removes weight, wipes out our tears and makes us smile.

Reading is like providing the mind with nourishment. Knowledge is the food for the mind and soul. Apart from giving us the basic information about the world around us, it also provides us with the food for thought. It encourages us to think. It increases our hunger for knowledge and our thirst to learn more.

Moreover, researches have proven that children who read have higher IQs then others. They are more creative and do better in schools. Children who start reading an early age are observed to have good language skills, do better in all the subjects. It is a treat that enhances the knowledge acquired, consistently. The habit of reading also helps readers to decipher new words and phrases that they come across in everyday conversation. Reading also helps in mental development and is known to stimulate the muscles of the eyes.

Reading can be both fun and informative. Fun, because a book can take you to a different world where fairytales come true and all your worries.
