Not usually. You have been married before and there isn't anything wrong with you. I'm on my 2nd marriage. Many times, when younger, we just pick the wrong mate or the couple is too immature and things just don't work out. My first marriage didn't work out and I've been married to my 2nd husband 34 years (he was never married before.) I told myself if my second marriage didn't work out then I was either a lousy judge of character or something was wrong with me and I vowed I would never marry a 3rd time. It's best to take things slow and easy when one or both of you have been divorced. Get to know each other a little (don't even live together for the first year) and then see where it goes. By then you should know what type of man he is. Even the sliest of characters can't be crafty for a year, so any bad traits will have come out in that time. If a man has been married and divorced more than twice I'd stay clear of him. Many things can make a marriage fall to pieces, and until you get to know the man you don't know if his wife has passed away, she had a bad problem that she wasn't willing to cope with or perhaps she just ran off and left him without any warning (it happens.) Just let nature take it's course; keep your eyes and ears open and don't go anywhere alone with a man you are interested in until you get to know him better. It's great to go out with other friends as couples and have fun at a bar or club and dancing is always a hoot. As I said, take it slow and easy and I bet you'll meet a real nice guy. Good luck Marcy

I am speaking from a third-person view, as I have distanced myself from a couple that seemingly won't stop imposing their presence upon their daughters who are either recently married, engaged to be married, or seriously dating somebody. In this situation, this impossible couple that I speak of tends to be rather controlling. They also desire to be best friends with their daughters, and the men in their daughter's lives. Taken to an extreme, even the most friendly parents can wear out their welcome when they come around too often, and try and be too close to anybody their children are married to, or dating. Now, with this in mind, I had to distance myself from this couple because they were not particularly interested in what my wife and I were doing with OUR lives, and only concentrated on what was important to them, which was THEIR family. In addition to this, I noticed the rude and selfish behavior they imposed on their daughters. Why would they think that even after their daughters get married that they could continue to violate any boundaries of visiting too often, or expecting to be best friends with their daughters boyfriends and spouses. I have had overbearing relatives in my life in the past, and even without my wife to support my occasional disagreements with these imposing inlaws, I stood my ground and let my boundaries be known. There is nothing wrong with imposing boundaries on anybody, especially when it involves close contact with them, constant visits, or giving little or no warning of plans to visit for weekends and etc. Even though I believe in treating people with respect, I don't believe that being family with anybody includes having to be best friends. Stand your ground!! I don't know, what do you other people think out there?

Why would you want to MAKE him agree, he should want to do this willingly. You also should want him to do this of free will so that you don't have doubts in the future about why he married you. This shouldn't be forced. If you have been together for a good while, 2 or more years, the shouldn't be any reason you cant sit down with him and have a reasonable discussion about your future plans and see what each of you wants out of the relationship. From there you should be able to make a decision that is best for both of you so your not further wasting you time on a relationship that will not be what you want.
