Why isn't the rebuilt alternator charging that I put in my 1996 Ford Taurus GL?

Does your Bat warning light stay on or if you have a Voltage gauge what does it read. Was your battery fully charged before you installed your new alternator? Remove alternator and have it tested to besure that it was indeed the problem.

Why won't your 1995 sedan deville start if the battery and alternator are working correctly?

How do you replace a 1997 neon alternator?

With great difficulty. Especially if you don't want to pull the engine. What I did was roll the car steering up on ramps (to gain access under the car), turn your steering hard to the right as far as it will go.

Take a jack and lift on the p. side sub-frame crossmember to expand the p. side suspension.

You will have to remove the alternator from the brackets and the brackets from the engine block before you can get the alternator out the opening.

Remember to loosen the top adjustment bolt. You access this by going under the hood against the firewall. I know this was hard to get at but a ratchet, extension, u-joint and deep socket worked for me. If you are lucky, you may be able to get a compact air ratchet in there as there isn't much room to ratchet.

After the brackets are removed from the engine and the alternator removed from the brackets, pull the alternator down. This will take some twisting to find the right way but it will work.

Replacing, just go in reverse order. Good Luck.

Will an alternator from a 1995 Altima fit on to a 1994 Altima?

It depends. What's more important, however, it the configuration of the engines, as a V6 and I4 alternators are unlikely to be swapped. If both cars had the KA24DE engine, they SHOULD interchange, but check the output ratings first.

Will a bad alternator boil your battery?

Short answer: yes

Long Answer: A bad Voltage Regulator can allow an overcharge to the battery. Your charging system should be running around 14.2 to 14.8 volts DC with the car running. A bad voltage regulator may allow up to 18 Volts DC to run through your system. Not good for your battery. Some vehicles have a separate Voltage Regulator and some are part of the Alternator. There is also a part in the Alternator called a Diode Trio that changes the AC voltage that the alternator produces to DC Voltage that your car's electrical system uses. Batteries don't like to be fed AC voltage, it can evaporate the electrolyte fluid.

How do you replace the alternator on 2002 Mercedes C230?

The alternator is located in the front lower left of the engine, if looking in from the front. Disconnect battery ground cable first. You need to remove the belt first. Use a 17mm socket and release tension on the belt tensioner to remove the belt. Then the alternator is held in by 2 external torx bolts. Remove these bolts and press the alternator out of the side of the engine. you will then need to remove the rear cable, and electrical connection. Also, the voltage regulators go bad on these cars way more then the whole alternator, so you might want to check on that first. Its attached to the rear of the alternator, and can be replaced seperatly.

Is the voltage regulator located inside the alternator in 1992 Honda accord?

Changing an alternator on a 2004 Hyundai accent?

Hope you're due for an oil change - you'll need to do one to make this easy... Raise hood - find alternator on left side (passenger side) of block. Loosen 2 bolts on the clamp holding it tight. roll under car, remove oil plug & drain oil. Also remove oil filter. Once oil is out, loosen nut holding alternator on. don't try to remove the bolt (you won't have room with the wheel well there... The alternator will lift up and out of the housing.. it may take a couple taps with a rubber mallet to free it. To install - reverse removal instructions. Hint - don't tighten the alternator fully from the bottom (just do it finger tight) then go up top and set up/tighten the bracket to make the belt tight - then tighten the bottom bolt.. Don't forget to put the oil filter back on, and add oil..

How do you know when to replace the alternator?

You need to get it tested. Auto Zone, Checker Auto, Kragen Auto or any of the local consumer auto parts distributors will check it for free. Call around if you have any questions. In general, if you want to run a primitive test yourself you can use a volt meter. Test the voltage before starting the engine, it should be around 12 volts, maybe a little lower if the battery isn't fully charged. Then start the engine. With the engine running and about 1000 RPM you should have 13.5 Volts at the battery. the easiest is to go to the local parts store most can check them right on the car. compare engine off voltage to engine running voltage. If it does not go up during engine running it is probably bad. Hey Lakisha==Take it to Auto Zone and they can check it out for free. Goodluck Joe If it is makeing a noise or is not putting out at least 13.5 volts it is bad. Take the car or the alternator to an Auto Parts store and have them load test the alternator to be sure. Just disconnect one of the battery post.If engine dies your running on battery. Are have an auto store check it for free they test load it. E.C.H Depending on the vehicle< it could range from the alternator gauge not registering a charge to an alternator light on the instrument cluster staying on. The easiest way to check this is to get a voltage meter and run it across the two terminals on the battery with the engine running. If you get a charge of 13.8 +/- 1 volt then it is charging if below with the engine running then the alternator is done. when the car is started disconect your battery and turn on your lights. if they are dim or dont come on your altinator is bad. Use a volt meter and measure the voltage on the battery with car NOT running. It should read 12 volt. Turn on the engine and measure the voltage on the battery again. If the alternator is good, the voltage should be 13+ or 14+ volts. If the alternator is bad, the voltage would be the same or less than 12 volt. If your battery is bad, the voltage would be less than 12 volt. You can also bring your car to an auto parts store and they will check it for you for free. have it tested, loss of electrical power is usually battery or alternator if happens slowly Disconnect the battery cable and see if your engine keeps runing. If the engine stops running your alternator isn't putting out any electrical power to your engine. Replace your battery cable and go have your alternator tested. If your alternator is good then start looking for a short somewhere. Sometimes the bearing inside the alternator will begin to make noise, not always. You can started the car, turn on the headlights, and then other accessories to see if the headlights dim when they are turned on. Alost of places like Autozone, Checker, and NAPA can bench test the alternator for you. Does your battery go dead when you drive for any length of time with the headlights on. If so there is a pretty good chance that your alternator is bad especially if the voltage regulator in internal (inside the alternator)

Why would a battery keep draining after 24-48 hours on a 2004 Kia Amanti when a battery alternator tests fine?

You probably have a bad cell in the battery. Go to a place that can check it with a hydrometer. Autozone, Checker Auto or some place like that. If you have a bad cell you need to replace the battery. It will usually get worse as the weather gets colder. You may also have something that is pulling power from the battery. Glove box, trunk, underhood, light, etc. Had the same problem--I was told to take both terminals from the battery and touch them together for a few seconds (5, I tried) and lo and behold , it worked---no more drained battery.! With the hood open, find the alarm pin switch on the right (passenger) side. On the hood there is a rubber grommet which will activate this pin switch when closing the hood. If this grommet is missing the battery will draw and will drain in several days.
