It uses a permanent magnet which is rotated by a crank. The spinning magnet is positioned so that its north and south poles passed by a piece of iron wrapped with wire. It was discovered that the spinning magnet produced a pulse of current in the wire each time a pole passed the coil. Furthermore, the north and south poles of the magnet induce currents in opposite directions. By adding a commutator, it is possible to convert the alternating current to direct current.

Why would the alternator heat up and destroy the belt?
alt are easy to turn at low speed,But as the engine speed up it has a higer out put of amps so this makes it harder to turn. So by being harder to turn more Friction is created.thus more heat!
The part of the circuit that is tied to a ground rod that is usually 6-8 ft long and is driven in the actual ground outside a building. Most local electrical codes require the ground circuit also be tied to the neutral bar in the electrical service panel. Effectively, you are causing the neutral bar to be grounded electrically to physical earth ground.
A ground circuit can also be on a vehicle. It usually is the car body and chassis used as a return path for electrical currents back to the battery negative post. Some vehicles use a positive ground instead of a negative ground (European vehicles usually).
Where is alternator fuse on 1990 Ford Thunderbird?
Some 1990s had a fusible link. I am not aware of any with a fuse. The fusible link is between the alternator and the battery, connected with heavy wire. Kind of easy to miss. http://www.marksatterfield.com
How do you change the alternator on a 1989FZR 600 Yamaha?
To change the alternator on a 1989 Yamaha FZR 600, start by disconnecting the battery and removing any necessary body panels for access. Next, locate the alternator, which is typically mounted on the engine's left side, and remove the bolts securing it in place. Disconnect the wiring harness and carefully remove the old alternator. Install the new alternator by reversing the process, ensuring all connections are secure before reassembling the body panels and reconnecting the battery.
Had alternator checked they said was good but when positive is disconected car dies?
If the alternator is computer regulated it may not run with battery disconnected. The alt. may be good, but the wires to it are open/shorted.
Most alternators need a voltage present to operate. This is because the voltage is used to create the magnetic field used to generate power. If you are directly replacing another alternator, the wiring should already be correct for it. If you think that your alternator is not receiving power (for its field windings) then you should check for the presence of the voltage with a meter when the ignition switch is on. The proper place to check will depend on the vehicle, and some newer alternators will only apply the voltage when a start signal is recognized. This would make troubleshooting much more difficult.

How often would you change an alternator for a Ford Taurus?
As often as the alternator fails... ;)
The alternator is not a 'consumable' type of part that requires routine maintenance/replacement - like a serpentine belt, brake pads, etc.
Many repair shops and auto parts stores offer inexpensive or free alternator & battery testing.
Be sure to test before replacing!
NOTE: it is a little known fact that a weak or failing battery is a major contributor to premature alternator death. Any battery that is 4 years old is a prime candidate for replacement.

How do you replace the alternator belt on a 1997 Dodge Avenger 4 cylinder?
PROBABLY ISNT MUCH DIFFERENT THEN A 1995. GET YOURSELF A LONG 15MM RENCH AND LOSEN THE TOP BOLT OF THE ALTERNATOR YOU CAN SEE IT RIGHT BEHIND THE TIMEING BELT COVER. NOW JACK UP THE CAR , REMOVE THE TIRE AND CRAWL UNDERNEATH. LOSEN UP THE BOLT ON THE BOTTOM OF THE ALTERNATOR. HERE COMES THE FUN PART. ON THE BACK PART OF THE TOP ALTERNATOR BRACKET IS A TENSIONING BOLT, AND IF DODGE HASNT CHANGED THE SIZE ITS A 13MM. YOU HAVE TO GET YOUR ARM BACK HEHIND THERE AND WITH A 13MM ON A RATCHET WRENCH LOSEN THE TENSIONER UNTIL YOU CAN PUSH THE ALTERNATOR FORWARD ENOUGH TO GET THE BELT OFF OF THE CRANK SHAFT PULLY. REPLACE THE SAME WAY YOU TOOK IT OFF.

Why wont my Honda magna v45 hold its battery charge after riding?
Two possibles. Either the battery needs to be replaced, or the stator is not charging. First check the battery with the engine off, should have 12. 2 volts or more, if under 12 volts, then charge and check again. If under 12 volts, then replace. If over 12 volts, run engine, check the battery volts, should have over 13 volts at idle, rev up, should get over 14 volts. If battery still shows only 12. 2 or so volts, then the stator in the engine has to be replaced.
What is the significance of alternation of generation?
alternation of generation is very important in plants because it results into the formation of a variety of new organisms... it is also important because it provides such organisms which have more chances of survival...
How do you replace the alternator on a 1999 Hyundai Sonata 6-cylinder GLS and where is it located?
It will come out of the engine compartment through the top in the left rear corner as you are looking from the front. You will have to take a wiring harness loose and bend a little metal piece up that was holding the wiring harness. It's a tight fit but it will come out. You do not have to take out the pivot bolt just loosen it up and then it lifts straight up out of the bracket it slides through. I found that to be the hardest. If you remove the right front tire and the plastic housing in the wheel well you can get to the bracket easier.

If Battery keeps draining overnight and it's not the alternator or battery?
If you are certain it is not a faulty battery or alternator problem, the next step is to find what is shorting out or drawing current with the ignition in the off position. Could be a number of things: Have you had aftermarket accessories installed (shift light/digital gauges/stereo/amplifier/car alarm/etc?) that would be where id start first, then use a simple circuit tester.
Disconnect the battery, clip a lead on the + battery wire, any circuit that is drawing current will make the tester light up when you short the circuit/wire under the dash using the probe..this will only show you what can pull current when the ignition is off
Hope this makes sense
