What is the effect of weak battery to the alternator?
The alternator doesn't care. It provides power no matter if the battery is good, weak, or not even there.
What should the voltage output be on an alternator in a 350 Chevy?
13.9 to 14.3 volts with engine running.
Would 460 ford alternator fron 1979 fit 1991 ford 350?
Might fit, but will not work. The difference is the 79 uses an external voltage regulator the 91 has an inenal voltage regulator
Why wont your brand new alternator recharge your battery?
Maybe the battery is defective. Check the voltage at the battery terminals with the engine running at idle. You should get 13.5 to 16 volts. If not the alternator is defective or the voltage regulator is bad. If you are getting the correct voltage, the battery is bad or the connections are corroded.
Where is the alternator in a 2000 Cadillac deville?
Front left of engine. Behind radiator and fans, halfway down
Why is your car just barely starting when you just changed the alternator and the battery is good?
Can be loose or corroded battery cables. If you see a bulge in one of the cables, replace it. Can also be a defective starter. If the engine is turning over as it should but is just hard to start, you have a fuel problem. Replace the fuel filter first thing. You may also have weak spark plugs or plug wires. Depends on the age of the vehicle and mileage. ==ANOTHER ANSWER== It's difficult to determine what is wrong from just a description, but if you mean that the starter does not turn the engine as fast as you think it should there are only a few possibilities.
1. The battery could be in good shape but have an insufficient charge. If you're certain that the alternator is functioning properly, that's not the problem. Use a voltmeter and test the voltage with the engine running. You should be able to produce about 14.5 volts under normal conditions with the engine running at about 1000 rpm and just about everything on. (the big power consumers are the rear window defrost, blower and lights)
2. The starter motor could be severely worn and "dragging". When the bushings are worn out the starter motor will not turn easily and it can sound like a dead battery. You'll need to check the starter to see if it's pulling too much current. There are special meters for that, don't try to use your multimeter.
3. If the alternator is functioning properly and the starter isn't drawing too much current the only other option is that the starter isn't getting enough current. That can be caused by either a faulty battery or a bad connection.

How do you replace the second from the top alternator pulley on 92 Grand Am?
It is a little tricky. I would suggest buying a haynes or a chilton manual. You can find them at autozone.

Where is the alternator located on a Nissan?
Helps if you give a year , but on my 2000 xe its below drivers side easy to get to just take off the metal shield guard underneath
as while designing alternator we have to consider two ckt. i.e. electrical ckt.& magnetic ckt. and electrical ckt.is designing by considering current & magnetic by volt.thats why rating is in kva.
How do you tighten the alternator belt on a 1994 Geo Prizm?
Looking into the engine compartment from the passenger side you you will see two large bolts and a smaller bolt on the alternator. The large upper bolt is the pivot bolt, the lower bolt is the locking bolt. The third bolt is used to adjust belt tension.
1. Loosen the alternator locking bolt. You may need a breaker bar to free the bolt.
2. Loosen the pivot bolt.
3. Turn the tension bolt counter clockwise to loosen tension, clockwise to increase tension.
4. Tighten the pivot bolt and locking bolt.
Why 91 Mercury Capri alternator not charging?
The most probable cause is that the voltage regulator has failed. The regulator is an integral part of the alternator so you will probably have to replace it.
How do you replace the alternator on a 1999 GMC Suburban?
Disconnect the positive battery cable, loosen the tension on the drive belt for the alternator, remove the electrical connections to the alt, remove the alt, and reverse the procedure. Tighten the drive belt tensioner to the required factory specs. Reconnect the battery cable.
How do you know if your alternator is not working?
Car won't start... engine can turn over, no power.
How do you know your alternator needs replacing?
In my case the bearing went bad and "froze" making a loud noise and making the fan belt smoke. If it does not make a noise, check the voltmeter on your dash - failure to charge could indicate the alternator is not working, but I think others things are more likely . It should be easy for a mechanic to test to see if the alternator is charging.
Where does the internal regulater wire go off the alternator?
It is at the rear of the alternator, in the plug that hold the wires that are incerted at the rear.
How do I Replace an alternator in 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan?
For my 1995 Dodge Grand Caravan with a 3.3L engine
The most important point here is that on a 3.3L engine it has to come out underneath. The main secret the store manuals don't tell you is that you have to remove the one bolt that holds the flexible rubber exhaust clamp to the middle of the body underneath; you can now push on the exhaust in the middle and this will allow it to flex over enough to barely be able to remove the alternator between the body and the exhaust. As an additional measure for removal room, i removed the three metal nuts that hold the catalytic converter heat shield in place under the passenger floor pan. Everything else is pretty standard; remove battery cable, take off wire connectors, use breaker bar with socket to unload tension on serpentine belt pulley & belt comes right off, two bolts from underneath for metal guard, lastly two bolts for the alternator. Just a final tip, make sure to use the new nuts that come with the rebuilt alternator & be very careful not to over tighten the wire connections; unfortunately, I've found the replacement metals they use are softer than the original and it takes nothing to twist off a connector, especially an old dirty nut reused.
How to know life left in alternator?
Usually no warning signs unless a bearing is going bad, Other than that it just stops charging the battery.
what about overcharging? alternator is 10 months old, as is battery, same problem
Could be. Vibration and heat are a batteries worst enemy. Remove the battery and take it to any place that sells batteries. Have it checked. If it is bad, replace the battery, and install a new battery hold down clamp. If it is good, start the car and drive it to any auto parts store and have them check the charging system.
