sounds like the alternator is going bad to me. ive had a car before that it started going bad twice... got rid of that old hunk of junk and got me another one. but try replacing your alternator. is not that expensive, usually 60 bucks.

A battery does not CREATE electrical energy, it only stores it. The alternator in your vehicle produces electricity which is used or everything from the radio to charging the battery. If the alternator or regulator fail or if there is a bad electrical connection anywhere, the vehicle may not start next time you get in. If the alternator has failed to charge the battery, there may be nothing actually wrong with the battery except that it has no electrical energy left with which to start your vehicle next time. IF that is the case, all the battery needs is to be charged and it will be able to start your car next time. On the other hand, sometimes batteries get old and just like anything else that gets old they can fail. A 12 volt battery, typical of almost every vehicle on the road today, contains 6 individual cells each capable of producing 2 volts. When cells fail the voltage can be reduced, or the battery can fail completely. So if your car doesn't start it may be a failed battery or it may be a failed charging system or a bad connector. It really isn't possible to give a difinitive answer to your question without being able to test a couple components.

To replace the alternator you must tip the motor. by removing the motor mounts in front on the motor.just the two top ones and than roll the motor forward. that will give you enough room to remove the alternator

The alternator in a 2000 Jaguar is a tight fit. You will have to remove the motor mount, oil filter, and filter adapter, then jack the engine up slightly to have clearance to remove the alternator.

The only way that this can happen is if your alternator is "grounding out". Your alternator is seriously letting some juice through it. Replace it. This could ignite under hood fire. Way too much voltage is going through it for some reason. This is all I can think of without looking at it. Hope this helps. Sorry I told you the wrong term. Its not grounding out it is just letting too much voltage through. Another possibility is that the wires are switched somehow, but you would have other serious problem that could result in frying the electrical system. Make sure batter cables and the alternator connections are connected correctly.

It can. It can also be uneven fuel supply, poor tuning. Older engines sometimes show their age by stalling under a heavy load at low rpm. Why is the battery poor?

First you have to pull the power steering pump to get to the Alternator. There is a bolt on top that has to be removed, than an ajuster bolt on the bottom. The Alternator is pretty easy to get out, but putting it back in, is frustrating, unless you have done it before. If you don't have small hands, have someone else do it who does. It's a tight squeeze getting the ajusting screw back on.

First, you need to take off the belt. next you need to disconnect the battery. then take a 13mm wrench and remove 3-4 bolts. two on the back, 1 on the bottom by the tension pulley then one long one in front. remove wires, then insert new alternator, bolt back on. connect wires. be sure to insert bottom bolt first (its the hardest) then the others. fit belt back on, then connect battery and start it up!

There is an automatic tensioner that keeps tension on the belt. THere should be a label in the engine compartment somewhere giving you a diagram of the path of the belt and showing where the tensioner is and which way it turns to loosen the tension. On the 1995 GMC Sierra that I just worked on, I loosened the nut on the front of the tensioner a little, then I used a big pipe wrench on the tensioner itself to rotate the tensioner assembly counterclockwise then removed the belt while still holding the tensioner, then gradually released the tensioner. From looking at it I guess there is a special tool you can use to do this, you might want to check with Advance Auto. or whoever your closest auto parts store is to see if they will loan you the tool.

Two alternators are used as a safety measure. The probability of both alternator failing are very minimal. Many planes use redundant systems.

I had this problem. The alternator was fine, it was the battery that was bad. The alternator was "pegging" out the indicator bc it was trying to charge the battery, but it wasnt taking charge. Take the battery out and have it checked.

Usually an alternator only needs bearings, brushes and possibly diodes and regulator. Most people rebuilding an alternator replace all of them. If you haven't rebuilt one or helped someone rebuild one it can be a little trickey. Some require that you solder the diode plate, others need very precise assembly. Often a rebuild kit costs more than a rebuilt alternator.

You will need a digital multimeter that can measure DC voltage for an accurate reading. Open the hood and connect the positive and negative multimeter leads to the positive and negative battery posts. Turn on the multimeter and make note of the battery voltage you have before starting the engine. The battery needs to be fully charged to get an accurate alternator reading. A fully charged battery should read 12.68 volts. Assuming the battery is healthy and fully charged, start the engine and let it idle. Make note of the multimeter reading. A healthy alternator should read 14.2 Volts. Now with engine still running, turn on the headlights and turn on the heater blower on high. Multimeter reading should stay above 13.8 volts. If you are below these numbers you may have a tired alternator.

Alternator is defective and needs replacing.

The quick easy method for determining a bad alternator or at least to find out if it is charging, while the car IS running remove the negative battery cable from the battery, if the car stalls then you need to have the alternator service inspected.

They are around 150.00 (new) plus labor. Remanufactured are even less. it's an easy job though, so I wouldn't pay someone to do it if you have any tools.

It sounds like the starter is bad. The clicking you hear is the solenoid trying to kick-over the starter.

If the vehicle starts but, won't stay running, it could be the alternator, or the wireing to (from) the battery or alternator (most likely the ground wire). Or it could be the dreaded MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR!!!!

Follow the route of the serpentine belt. It drives the alternator.
