I could give you a more specific answer if you told me which engine your car has, but hopefully this will work:

1. Disconnect the battery ground. Use gloves to keep from getting any acid on your skin.

2. Take note of the routing of the serpentine belt and release the tensioner, move the belt out of the way.

3. Disconnect the wires from the alternator.

4. Remove the bolts that hold the alternator in and lift it out.

Reverse the procedure to put it back.

Almost all of the local parts stores here offer free testing of alternators.. O'Reilly, Murray's, Autozone, Advance, just to name a few. Stop by and ask to have it tested. have the car running remove the positive cable from battery if car stalls it's the alternator if it stays running possibly the battery.

remove air intake, filter etc, remove 6 bolts on fan cover and remove fan cover, then slip off belt(i dunno how to do this part) remove screws holding alternator, disconnect..

somewhat accurate but not totally 1 disconnect battery 2 remove air filter box and set a side

3 release pressure from the belt tensioner with either a johnson bar and i believe 15 mil 3/4 socket be careful loaded pretty strong

4 onto the hard part three mount bolts 12 and 13 mil as well as 10 mil for the positive connection there is also a 2 wire plug that will pull off the alt there is a small gm clip holding this in place the lower alt bolt also has a nut on the back side of it which you can reach by hand to stop it from turning ,Finally there is a bolt thst mounts your dipstick to the rear of the alt and block this one is for little hands may be easier with the dog house off ,, hope this helps a bit more

Tip, don't remove cables to determine if altentor is bad... could trip electrical componets and computers and sensors.. you cn tell by simply checking the batery rechargs or not... the altenator replacement is pretty straightforward, it genertes electricity by the spinning on the cerpintine belt so look there for an unpainted metal block with copper coil inside it that is also attached by electrical cords on your battery. Remove power from the battery for this job. Good luck, its not hard to do, its just an expensive part sometimes.

The easiest way to check any alternator in a car is to have the vehicle running and use a VOLT meter to read across that battery terminals. The voltage should be in the range of 13.4 volts to 14.5 volts..no lower, no higher. If either low voltage or high voltage exist, that alternator is probably defective.

Disconnect the battery, and wires from alt.Remove 2 bolts from front of alt. and 1 on back and lift out.

It's easy Dissconnect battery.Dissconnect wires from back.Dissconnect air pipe the little nuts(8mm)may need replacing. lossen off the top bolts a tad these act as the hinge. Remove the adjustment plate thing note the coged bolt this lets you get tension into the belt without using a lever as on other cars. Remove the top bolts and it drops free. next clamp the cooling fins in a vice(they may bend a little) so as to remove the pully wheel.On new alternator fit pully and fan,ensure fins are straight tap with hammmer if not, then fit. Best use new belt and lightly grease all bolts

you should check and most likely have to replace the switch that spins left and right to dim and brighten the dash lights p.s. you didnt say so you probley don't but if you do have headlight problems too than it might not be that switch>my headlight worked fine

You will have to remove whatever is necessary in order to get it out. There is a way to do this.

Check with your local auto parts store for a repair manual for that vehicle.

Remove - battery cable
Raise and support vehicle
Disconnect wire at top of starter
Remove mounting bolts
Remove starter

To replace the alternator on a 1995 Honda Civic disconnect the battery. Disconnect the wiring from the alternator. Loosen the adjustment bracket so the belt has slack. Remove the alternator belt along with the mounting hardware. Pull the alternator and replace it.

The theory to " spin" the alternator is the same as spinning an air compressor. The ac motor, whether a single plase or industrial three phase motor, to turn the belt or chain driven item,alternator or air compressor pump. the schematic for an air compressor would give you this answer for the a.c.app.

You can test your battery with a battery tester. If you don't have a battery tester, you could take the battery to Advance Auto Parts and they will test it for you for free.

I just finished replacing the alternator on my 1994 Chrysler T&C. What a task that turned out to be. Looks simple right. Sits right up there on top, easy to access. I own an ALLDATA CD I bought years ago. They suggest that it be dropped down between the underbody and crossmember, but I found it impossible without needing to drop the exhaust. My car sat for nearly two weeks, until I decided to try and start removing the brackets that support it. It actually takes a little patience, but turned out well. Nothing was difficult to remove or hard to access. I usually need to map out where I take things off from, since I tend to forget when I go to put it back together again, but did not find that necessary this time. Is pretty straight forward.

2.2L Altenator on a 2.2L, AND, 2.4L on a 2.4L ONLY!

To remove ours we had to go underneath and take it out that way. Once we got all the bolts out we had to take off the brackets to get it to drop out. Installation is the reverse of removal. Quite a PITA!!!

My advice is to charge the battery with a battery charger before starting the engine. You will be putting a heavy load on the alternator if you allow it to charge a dead battery. This could damage the alternator.
