Can you use a 160 amp car alternator to run a 100 amp inverter?

160 amps is more than ample to run a 100 amp inverter.. what you need to look at is the required input amperage of the inverter and compare that to what's present in the circuit it's wired/plugged into. In most cases, you should be able to run up to a 400 amp inverter plugged into a 12v outlet, but again, you need to make sure.

What is alternator?

It is a device that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy on a car. It works by:the alternator creates an electric field by spinning a magnetic rotor with direct current inside stator windings. an ac voltage is developed and rectified dc. this voltage is compared to the battery voltage and determines the current through the rotor. if the battery voltage is lower than the alternator voltage, more current through the rotor increases the magnetic field and creates a larger alternator voltage. if the battery voltage is higher, less current through the rotor decreases the alternator voltage.

1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport New battery New alternator still stalling Any suggestions?

Please describe the "stalling" in full detail. Example: "It dies when I come to a stop after a long drive". etc.

my car lights get very damm, and it wont start ather i have stop.

Your 1998 Plymouth Neon quit running while you were driving It started once and then died again and would not start The alternator tested good and you installed a brand new battery. Any thoughts?

You may have a short in the electrical system but that would show if the battery does not charge. The battery could also be bad from the factory even if carrying a charge. Try a different battery and see what happens. You may also have a fuel pump going out or plugged fuel filter to the carb or off the gas tank. If you can hear a 'ping' when your car is running, replace the water pump.

It sounds like an ECM (Electronic Control Module) or Ignition coil. Check for spark and then, if no spark, take the coil to be tested to isolate if it is the coil or ECM. ECM is located inside the distributor and controls spark to each plug.

How do you replace the alternator on a 1989 Nissan 240SX?

Drive the car up onto ramps or jack the car up to change the alternator you need have access from the bottom of the engine. Access to the alternator is very tight. First disconnect the battery. Accessing from the top loosen the drive belt and remove the adjusting bolt, ground wire, battery wire and plug in connector from alternator, do this before removing the bottom bolt from alternator. Once bottom bolt is removed the alternator is to be taken out the bottom, it is a tight but it will come out. Hope this helps.

You just changed the alternator on a 90 LSC you are having trouble getting the belt tensioner back on Is there a trick?

im going on the assumption that you are referring to the belt back on the tensioner cause there is no reason to remove the tensioner to install an alt. if it is a matter of putting the belt on, make sure that the belt is routed correctly through the pulleys. then remove the belt off the alternator, put the belt on the tensioner THEN pull the tensioner back with a wrench on the tensoiner adjusting nut. slip the belt on the alternator and slowly release the wrench. i hope this was helpful

What would make the Battery light come on after changing the alternator and checking the battery in a 92 Chevy c1500?

Battery light usually means alternator not charging. Most common solutions would be be a bad alternator, bad connection, or loose alternator belt. If the battery and alt test ok than check the connections to the alternator and battery.

Car with a dead battery do you Check the output of the alternator OR check the condision of the spark plugs OR Both OR Neither?

Make life easy for yourself, just jump-start the engine, and while it's running put a meter across the battery. If you're getting about 14 V across the battery (after the jumper cables have been removed), then your alternator is ok. If it's BELOW 12 V, you probably have a bad alternator.

How do you change the alternator in 98 ford expedition?

Alternator Removal & Installation 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Rotate the drive belt tensioner away from the drive belt and remove the drive belt from the alternator pulley. 3. Detach the electrical harness connectors at the alternator assembly. 4. Disconnect the positive battery cable and remove the nut and washer. 5. Remove 2 front alternator bolts. 6. Remove the rear alternator support bracket retaining bolts and the support bracket. 7. Remove the alternator from the vehicle. To install: 8. Place the alternator in position and loosely install 2 front alternator retaining bolts. 9. Install the alternator bracket and 3 alternator bracket bolts. Tighten to 84 inch lbs. (10 Nm) 10. Tighten 2 front alternator retaining bolts to 19 ft. lbs. (26 Nm). 11. Connect 2 electrical hardness connectors to the alternator assembly. 12. Connect the positive battery cable and install the nut and washer. Tighten the nut to 72 inch lbs. (8 Nm). 13. Rotate the drive belt tensioner away from the drive belt and install the drive belt on the alternator pulley. 14. Connect the negative battery cable. 15. Start the engine and check for proper charging system operation.

Your 1997 ford ranger battery light is low and the battery keeps dying is it the alternator?

If the battery and alt test ok than check the connections to the alternator and battery. You may also have a battery drain (something that is staying on and killing the battery)

How do you install an alternator in 97 cadillac deville?

Take the battery out first(you have to do this to get to the half inch drive, belt tensioner to take the belt off), take the belt off WRITE DOWN THE ROUTING IF THERE IS NO BELT ROUTE STICKER!!!!!, take the radiator cooling fans out (two plugs,, 4 bolts, easy), under the car there is a plate on the same side as the alternator that has to be removed to allow space to put the exchanged alternators through it is maybe 8 inches long and has 4 bolts 2 vertical and two you can see on the bottom. It HAS to come through the bottom and through this hole!! The casing of the alternator is basically square looking on the backside. to get it thru the hole it HAS to be flat side of the square to the radiator side and the other to the motor side!!!to fit through, that's how tight the tolerance is. one bolt hole towards the driver side and one towards the passenger side. there are 3 bolts 2 front side and one rear side, and the electrical main connector bolt and plug on the back and side of the alternator, remove them. Note:: the rear bolt on the casing mount may not come completely out,, Dont freak, it will still allow the alternator to release. It butts up against the exhaust manifold. Install is the exact reverse of this. This is not a fun job and I can't say this loud enough GET A QUALITY ALTERNATOR!!!! DON'T BE CHEAP! OR YOU WILL BE DOING THIS JOB AGAIN REALLY SOON. And just for addition to change the a/c compressor is a nightmare, hope that works ok ..

What is draining your battery-Alternator starter and battery all ok?

You may have a short circuit somewhere that is leaking current to ground. Or you could have a bulb or accessory that is using current even when the vehicle is turned off. Improperly installed aftermarket stereos & amps are a notorious cause of this.
