Brake Fluid and Lubrication

Cars, trucks, motorcycles and even bicycles use hydraulic braking. Brake fluid is used to transfer the force applied into hydraulic pressure. In contrast, lubricants enable parts to move opposite each other in a perpendicular manner.

Can replacing the serpentine belt cause brake fluid to leak?

serpentine belt has nothing what so ever to do with break fluid.only reason it would leak thru serpentine belt replacement is if a brake line or part was broken by accident while installing belt

How do you change the front disc brakes on a Pontiac Vibe?

Remove wheels Re-install 2 lug nuts to secure rotor Loosen (2) caliper mounting bolts Remove 1 bolt caliper mounting bolt completely to allow caliper to swing to access pads Remove outer pad Use "C" clamp and rear pad to retract piston into caliper housing Replace pads Swing Caliper into place and secure PUMP BRAKE PEDAL TO RESET PADS AGAINST ROTOR PRIOR TO MOVING VEHICLE

Edit: Crack wheel lugs. Jack up car. Secure with jackstands. Remove wheel.

Remove two caliper bolts (16mm). Remove caliper, rest on rotor/splash guard (do not rest on brake line). Open hood, open brake fluid reservoir. Use C clamp and old pad to slowly crank the caliper piston back into housing. (1/2 turn at a time) Apply 'disc brake quiet' between new pad and shim. Install new pads in caliper, replace caliper. Replace wheel, torque lugs. Close Brake fluid reservoir.

What does dot mean in brake fluid?

Most brake fluid sold in North America is classified by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), with ratings such as "DOT 3", "DOT 4" and "DOT 5.1". Each designation denotes a particular mixture of chemicals imparting specified ranges of boiling point. As of 2006, most cars produced in the U.S. use DOT 4 brake fluid.

Do you need to repack the brakes on my 2007 gmc savana?

Assuming you mean "replace" the brakes, the brakes should be inspected for condition every time the vehicle is serviced and repairs, if any needed, should be done at that time.

How do you do the rear brakes on a 1987 fiero?

Fiero BrakesYou first must buy a tool from GM (not preferably due to price) or from the auto parts store (defiantly less expensive then dealer) wich turns the caliper. This tool sort of looks like a steel cube with little nubs sticking out here and there. This tool fits on a regular ratchet and the little nubs on the tool fit directly into your caliper. You then proceed to turn your caliper like it was a bolt until it is completely in then just install your brakes just like the front, bot make sure you allign your nubs on the back of your brake shoe to the indentions on your caliper.

95 sunbird makes a wooshing sound when brake is applied there is no brake and the master cylinder holds fluid?

I'm just guessing here, but perhaps the brake booster is leaking. It uses engine vacuum to provide braking assistance. It's the large canister thing, usually on the firewall, behind the master cylinder. If it is indeed your brake booster leaking vacuum, you may also notice a change in your idle speed or may experience rough idle. Your engine's computer adjusts your engine's idle according to vacuum. If vacuum is lost anywhere on your engine, the computer may adjust idle inacurately. Whooshing brake sound + changed idle may be diagnostic of a leaking brake booster, although idle won't always change.

If you mistakenly put transmission fluid in brake fluid will it affect the ABS?

no, both trans fluid and brake fluid perform the same function, just have different properties and heat tolerances, make sure a professional flushes the brake system for you, this is the only way to flush it properly

What happens if you put engine fluid in power steering fluid?

You will screw your steering system. You need to flush steering system ASAP. And of course do not drive with engine oil in steering.

How do you replace rear brakes on a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta?

If I'm correct you're having trouble retracting the piston on the caliper. If I'm not then don't read anymore. You need to turn the piston clockwise while applying pressure against the piston. The easiest way is in a large vise with a socket against the piston while using channel locks to turn the piston. This is if you don't rent the special tool for this specific task. Don't feel bad I got the answer the same way you did. good luck

How do you balance rear brakes in a Daihatsu Charade 1994?

Rear disc or drum brake systems do not require "balancing" as compared to the mounting of wheel weights on tire. Brake rotors and drums, when built as specified come dynamically balanced from the factory. Quality replacement rotors and drums should not require "turning," or machining down of the rotors either. If the "balance" issue refers to uneven, or extreme wear of on pad/shoe as compared to the other a caliper/cylinder issue can be involved. If you the car is feeling vibration or pulsing during breaking it could be related to rotor warpage, rather than a balance issue.
