Car Shaking Problems

Car shaking problems are usually the results of mechanical problems. Out of adjustment tires or suspension will make the car shake after reaching a certain speed. Warped brake rotors will also make the car shake when it’s slowing down.

Your 2006 Honda CRV steering wheel vibrates when brakes are applied at a speed of 40 miles and above?

Rotors do not warp as many people think.Brake Torque Variation and Disc Thickness Variation are the cause of the issue.

Brake Torque Variation (BTV) is a variation of torque across the face of the rotor causing the rotor to slip and catch as brake pads pinch the rotor. The differences in torque across the rotor may be caused by an inconsistent rotor finish or the metallurgy of the rotor.BTV can be caused by uneven deposits of friction material. This might not cause a pulsation in the pedal, but it will cause the vehicle to judder or vibrate.

Disc Thickness Variation (DTV). This measurement is the result of measuring the thickness of the rotor surface at multiple spots around the rotor. Subtract the thickest part from the thinnest, and you will have a measurement for DTV.

As the thickness variations of the rotor pass through the caliper, the piston moves in and out. This action generates pulsations in the brake pedal that can be felt by the driver.

Very small amounts of DTV can create a significant problem. Today, new vehicles are typically built with a thickness variation of less than 0.00078". Thickness variations in excess of 15 microns (0.00059") can easily generate driver complaints. DTV specifications are significantly lower than runout specifications which typically are .002". This is due to the fact that a caliper can "float" or move back and fourth without forcing the piston back into the bore.

So what causes BTV and DTV? The answer is not distortion caused by overheating. Heat does play a role as it increases wear on the rotor that causes a "warped" feeling.

Why is only one spark plug burning out?

I believe that the spark plug is burning out because of the volts and the fact that it is p;ugged into a higher voltage slot. You pretty much need a new cord with the same number of vlts that it can hold. :)

Why does the car hisatate when turning it off?

If by hesitate you mean it continues to run for a few seconds and doesn't turn off instantly, it may be a condition called "dieseling." It's a condition where the residual fuel continues to combust because the compression is still there. Try switching to a higher octane fuel, and it may go away.

Can a bad track bar cause rear axle shake?

No! A track bar is just what it states, it holds the axle in line with the body or frame. A bad or worn out bar will make the car or truck feel very "loose" or unresponsive. The only thing to cause a "shake" is tire balance or a bent rim. A stutter on accell is a missfire. The two are not the same.............

Why sequoia steering vibration?

Normally caused by a tire out of balance or a bent wheel or both.

What would cause the steering wheel to rattle and shake in a Pontiac G6 2005?

Sounds like you may have warped your rotors by letting the brake pads wear too low and the metal against metal friction has cut grooves and essentially warped the surface of the rotors - new pads and rotors should fix it but if you must take care of that somewhat urgently once you get to that point.

How to fix a 97 Plymouth breeze 2 0 engine that shakes some while in park and shakes worse in drive while setting still?

In my case, My 97 1/2 year 2.4 L Plymouth Breeze engine mounts were loose and the lower engine/transmission support bracket was bent and was transfering vibrations up the steering column (really annoying). Dealership replaced mounts and support to correct this issue.

AnswerI have a 96 that does the same thing had it to the dealer and they checked it out and had no answer so if any one does please email me at ebugsbill@comcast.net Thanks AnswerANSWER

If the car runs smooth while driving I tend to believe the engine needs a tune-up. If the idle speed is tolow or the timing has changed it can cause a rough idle.

Answer

When the engines is cold losen all the engine mount bolts roughly 1 turn, or so, start the engine and allow it to warm up until the idle drops, then shut it off and tighten mounts down to spec. The problem is that the engine is not sitting properly on the mount(it in a bind) and it's tranferring vibration into the frame of the car. This worked well on a 97 breeze which would shake smiliarly as describe since it was new.

Why does car shakes over 40?

could be a few reasons, check out your suspension rods, the tie rod ends, or maybe see if your tires are balanced

Why is your car shaking in idle?

My Ford Contour had this problem. Most of it went away by changing the throttle position sensor. It also had poor acceleration & this also cured most of that. Big tomato

What does it mean when the check engine light flashes in a 1997 ford expidition?

The computer has detected a severe emissions malfunction and stored a code. Immediate attention is needed to prevent permenent damage.

Why does your car shake when you brake?

its probably the trim in your car hanging loose or if its your whole chassis you might want to take the car tested and replace the brake pads

------------------

The brake rotors are warped. Have them turned or replaced. This is a very common problem, i see it all the time. You may as well replace the pads while you are at it.

Car starts but sputters and has no power?

Check your spark plugs and spark plug wires. One may be bad. Do you smell gas if you turn your fresh air vent on?

How do you use strut in a sentence?

It's a verb (like walking proudly), and a noun (a building component), so depending on your context, something like "Johnny struts arrogantly around town, we all hate him" or "That building's struts aren't strong enough to support King Kong, someone get Faye Dunaway out of there".

What could cause a light vibration in an old manual transmission car as you accelerate in any gear along with a loud 'clank' as if something hit the undercarriage?

go get a free brake inspection at a local brake shop, and while they have it in the air, ask if they see anything unsafe or worth noting... also ...everyone should have a manual for their vehicle(parts store or dealer), and a local library should have professional shop manuals available in the REFERENCE section for free...make copies of the appropriate sections...read up and good luck :) When you say it's an "old" manual transmission car, is it rear wheel drive by chance? Often a faulty "U-Joint" can cause some occasional "clanking" and if they're getting bad enough they can certainly cause some vibration. Some of the rear wheel drive vehicles also have what's called a "center carrier bearing" which supports the driveshaft. If neither of those seem to be the problem, start checking the suspension parts. Be aware that if it IS the carrier bearing or U-Joints, they can fail in a serious way, causing the driveshaft to fall out while you're going at highway speed. Not a plesant experience.

What causes a steering wheel vibration while accelerating 1995 Ford 460 fuel injected motor home It seems to cruise all right but vibrates on inclines just before downshifting?

Could be needing a wheel balance , but more than likely you have a dry U joint in the drive shaft, if U joints have been greased recently, u need new U joints

Sorry but a dry U joint causing a steering wheel to vibrate, come on!

Wheels being out of balance, Yes~ Possible bad wheel bearing is another reason as is a bad tire road and so on... Have it checked out by a shop soon! Good luck.
