YOU cant ,, it has to be done with a obdII scan tool or dealer computer system ,,, you can get it done at an autozone or similar type store and they will usuallt tell you the codes as well < If the problem is fixed or little,you can take the neg(black wire) off the battery and wait 10 min ,put it back on that will shut it off,but only if problem is fixed or little or if you dont get the problem no more

You can usually borrow, rent or buy a GM OBD code scanner at most auto parts retailers. Since OBD2 has come out, the old version has been called "OBD1", but that's not what it was called when it was being used. The 1995 Eighty-Eight is a crossbreed. It uses the OBD-II connector but it is an OBD-I system. It appears that OBD-II code readers can handle this but I'm not positive.

If your 95 is anything like my 01 Seville the Crankshaft sensor(s) 2 of them are found by going to the front of the car, crawing or sliding under where the radiator is and a little to the passage side by the oil filter there are 2 of them an A and a B senor on the 2001 the service manager told me where they were and I when to the library found a service manaual and xeroxed the page that had a picture of it other wise I would not have known hope this helps cost of my sensors where around 160 each

It is loacated under the passanger side seat.

The obdII connection is on the right side of the steering column mounted on the edge of the the lower dash panel.

After several weeks of intermittend codes or P0455, suddenly I could no longer fill the gas tank easily. I had to let gas trickle in. Dealer mechanic said fuel tank would not pressure test so they replaced my locking gas cap that I used for three years, then it pressure tested okay. They also replace the charcoal cannister ($152) and the cannister control valve (solenoid) for another $40.

I bench tested the cannister and found no leaks or anything else wrong with it. I tested the cannister control valve and nothing was wrong with it. Fuel tank filled up okay.

i'm pretty sure that is your traction control system. look for a button labeled traction control, ets or something like that. then push it. Theres a rocker switch labeled "trac control" on the left of the steering column switch it one way to turn traction control on and the other way to turn it off, either way it wont harm anything. GM designed a glorious "Traction Control System", the purpose of which is unknown. What is known however, is that this system has broken on all Achievas known to be in existance. As you will notice if you follow the uninformed advice of the previous posters, activating the system causes any number of problems, many of which are dangerous. Naturally, rather than take any action to fix the problem, GM has tacitly advised dealers to merely turn the switch to off. (The fact that there even is a switch suggests that the system never worked, and indeed was never intended to.) Dealers typically then advice foolish consumers that the light "is meant to be off", which means they think Achieva drivers are among the dumbest people in America. I don't know what the "Traction Control System" is, but doesn't the light just mean you have turned the system ON and when light is off you have turned the system OFF? The traction control really only works in snow and ice. During the summer there is really no point in having it on. Without it your tires will spin. When activated it senses when the wheels starts spinning and cuts power for a second. It works the same as pumping the gas pedal. It works fine on my 96 and I wouldn't be able to get up my driveway without it. I would advise keeping the TCS off at all times, even during snow and ice. When I first started driving my 1996 Acheiva, I left the TCS on at all times. It took me about 6 months to burn out my rotors, repeatedly. I could not understand why they kept warping and getting destroyed. I have had it off for the past 3 years and I still have a good set of rotors. It is more trouble than it is worth. Drive slowly and sensibly in the rain and snow and you will be fine without it.

It depends the check engine light comes on usually when there is an issues with the computer that is related to misfiring, O2 sensor, etc. You can buy at an Auto parts store a code reader for $75 or you can pay yoru mechanic $75 to check the check engine light. I bought the code reader since once my check engine light came on it keep coming on for different reasons, but mainly for failure of coils and O2 sensors. If you live in a state where they require yearly emission checks then you can take it in and it will produce a failure which tells the fault. In my state that is $23.50, but you fix the issue and take back and they give you the inscpection sticker for no extra charge.. But the only way to find out why the light is one is to runt he computer and check the code.. good luck You can also get your codes read for free at Advanced Auto or Autozone. ANSWER I had this happen for quite some time, always had a diagnostic test come back clean. I was confused for some time, but found out that it was coming on because the gas cap wasn't tightened enough. Check to make sure it's on tight, or your check engine light will stay on if it isn't. This was an easy fix. I always check the minor things before thinking it's something major, because most of time it has been little things.

It should reset itself after you replace the cap, sometimes it may take a while. Pull the battery cable off and wait a few seconds before reconnecting. Or you can just unplug the 3 cables going into the ECM above the battery. You won't have to loosen any bolts that way. pull the negative battery cable for 10 min then reattach and should be out

what would make a 2000 ford windstar die out at stop lights and you have to put your foot on the brake and gas at the same time to keep it running and it sputters and jerks.

Have the system checked for codes. That will lead you to the problem.
