How much horsepower does a 1997 Honda Prelude have?

Answer

Most markets had the Prelude at 195 hp (200 hp for the 1999-01 model years). The Japanese market-only Prelude Type SiR S-Spec and Type S had 220 hp.

Answer

try a search for a prelude club website...of course all of theirs will be modified and they'll brag they have more than they actually do...very few can afford to pimp their ride AND a dyno test for HP at the wheel...

also, more in is always better than more out...I.E. Turbo, or throttle body, cam...instead of alot of noise and low backpressure in the out section(exhaust)

also ...know the basics

everyone should have a manual for their vehicle, and the library should have a professional shop manual available in the reference section for FREE to make copies of...read up and fix like a pro!!

How do you turn off seat belt chime in 2002 explorer?

All you have to do is buckle it for a couple of minutes. Then take it off NO BEEP until you restart your truck.

How check fuel pump on 2002 avalanche?

Open the fuel filler door and remove the gas cap. Listen at that location while someone turns on the ignition without starting the engine. You should hear the pump run for a few seconds and then shut down. If you hear nothing then either the fuse is blown or the relay is defective. But even if it does run it may not be pumping any fuel. A fuel pressure test at the fuel rail with a FP gauge will verify if it is pumping. Also a clogged fuel filter will cause the engine to not run.

How do you change the alternator on a 2001 Santa Fe?

Please Read at bottom...

It seems kind confusing your answer. Why remove the AC pump if it is on the front area of the engine and the alternator is on the back?

The problem on removing the alternator on this vehicle is on the bracket that seems to lock the CV Axle in place. This bracket is behind the alternator and seems like it has to be removed so the lower bolt holding the alternator can be removed as well. I have my vehicle up and the alternator hanging by it's lower bolt because it can not be removed as it hits the bracket behind the alternator.

I am just getting a technical manual to figure out the proceeds in to remove the bracket behind the alternator and have room to remove the lower bolt holding the alternator. What a better response??? Avoid buying such a difficult car to work with; even changing spark plugs is a hassle on this vehicle, unless you want to have a +- $900.00 spark plug service on a $3000.00 vehicle.

IN ORDER TO CHANGE THE ALTERNATOR YOU WILL NEED TO; DISCONNECT THE BATTERY, REMOVE THE SKID PAN FROM THE UNDERCARIAGE, UNBOLT THE AIR CONDITIONING PUMP FROM ITS BRACKET(FROM UNDER THE CAR) (CAREFULL ITS PROBABLY CHARGED WITH FREON). LET IT HANG. GO TO THE TOPSIDE, UNDER THE HOOD, AND UNBOLT THE THREE NUTS ON THE ALTERNATOR. RMOVE THE STUDS FROM THE BACK SIDE. REMOVE YOUR FREEON HIGH PRESSURE HOSES FORM THE AIRCONDITIONING PUMP.( BE CAREFUL, BECAUSE IT WILL BLOW FREON EVERYWHERE, NOT GOOD FOR THE OZONE, BUT I HAVE NOT MASTERED THE ART OF CATCHING HIGH PRESSURE VAPORS) GO BACK TO THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND REMOVE THE AIR CONDITIONING PUMP. UNBOLT THE BRACKET THAT IT WAS MOUNTED TO BOLTED TO THE ENGINE NEXT TO THE OIL FILTER. NOW YOU CAN DISCONNECT THE FAST CONNECTOR FROM THE ALTRERNATOR, (EASIEST FROM THE TOP SIDE) THE GO BACK TO THE BOTTOM AND UNBOLT THE POWER CABLE FORM THE ALTERNATOR.(ENSURE YOU HAVE ALREADY DISCCONECTED THE BATTERY) GO TO THE PASSENGERS SIDE REACH OVER THE FENDER AND REMOVE THE SERPENTINE BELT. GET UNDER THE CAR REACH UP AND PULL OUT THE ALTERNATOR. IT MAY REQUIRE A LITTLE LEVERAGE DUE TO HOW TIGHT IT FITS IN THE BRACKET. AFTER REASSYMBLY YOU WILL NEED TO GET YOUR AIR CONDITIOINING RECHARGED WITH FREON. ITS R-34 AND YOU CAN PURCHASE THE PRESSURIZED CANS AT MOST AUTOMOTIVE STORES FOR ABOUT THIRTEEN DOLLARS A BOTTLE. GOOD LUCK

There is a much simpler way to replace your alternator. Jackup and brace front passenger side. Remove front passenger tire and the small plastic inner fender panel (4 bolts 10 mm). The alternator is right there. Remove belt and inspect now is the time to replace it if needed. its easiest two remove the two bolts the hold the tensioner on once you have the belt off the tensioner. Your factory tensioner will require pushing on it from the top, an aftermarket one(about 70 bucks) will have the 3/8 fitting for a socket handle. Removing the tensioner is done to feed the belt through easier onto the upper pulley as there isn't much room to push it through attached. With belt removed there are two bolts to remove. remove the upper bolt the take the nut off the lower bolt its easier to loosen the bracket for the upper bolt as well (for reassemble) once you have the upper bolt out and the lower bolt off the bracket molded into the block is slotted gently pry up and wiggle alternator and itll come off with bolt in place. put bolt in the new alternator. you can now rotate the alternator to remove the battery terminsl and the plug. remove alternator and reverse the procedure. remember to tighten the alternator bracket after you have the alternator in place and the top bolt started. its not 100% necesarry to loosen the bracket but it makes lining up the bolt hole on the alternator easier. Absolutely no reason to do anything with the ac pump or any other component.

Ok Having now done this myself I can say that what is directly above is correct.

Honestly this job is not all that difficult. By the way mine is a 2003 with a 2.7L. I am assuming that this is the same for all models from 2001 thru 2006 I believe?

I recommend several other things than above. Move the tensioner, and slide the belt off of the idler pulley. Don't take off the tensioner... Move the tensioner again and remove the belt from the alternator. Then just push the belt up out of the way of the alternator. Much easier for reassembly.

Now there are two key items that no one seems to elaborate on. The back or rear bracket hole in the alternator is slightly larger then the front bracket hole. In the rear bracket hole is a hard plastic grommet that is slotted. This allows the alternator to slop when the nut has been removed. The other really key piece of info is that the bracket itself is completely slotted front to back. This is how the whole thing comes easily apart. Yes some one really did think about this... As soon as you apply some downward pressure at the other bracket, (That's the one that is single and threaded), the entire alternator will almost pop out of the slotted bracket. Once you have it out you can then pivot around some to get a socket on the nut for the charging wire. Assume you know how to get the interlock plug out.

Reassembly is really much easier if you loosen the two bolts in the bracket that the bolt goes through to screw into to the single threaded hole. Alignment is really difficult almost impossible if you don't.

Also have to get my dig in. Shame on you Haynes Manuals for taking the easy out approach and saying, "Space is limited in this area and other parts must be removed to replace the alternator."

How do you change an alternator on a 1991 Corvette?

Remove clip-on and red wire from back Remove belt by releasing pressure on the auto-pressure arm on passenger side of motor at front, near center at bottom. I used a 2-foot jack lever to push down while a second person removes belt with screwdriver remove 2 bolts holding down the reservoir in front of the lowest bolt on the alternator Remove 3 bolts Reassemble. 2nd' person needed to re-attach belt while i hold down pressure arm. Saved me 400 bucks

How do you install an air filter on a 2003 Navigator?

1. Remove the flat plastic cover from the top of the engine by removing the two bolts and pulling up. There is a hidden friction support on the left side of the enginge when viewed from the front. 2. Loosen the hose clamp around the air intake at the engine. 3. Loosed the hose clamp at the outlet of the air filter assembly. 4. Remove the hose assembly that connects the air filter assembly to the engine air intake. 5. Undo the spring clamp that hold the two halves of the air filter assembly together and loosen the clamp ring. IMPORTANT: Note where the clamp lever is in relation to the line up tab at the top of the filter housing. 6. Pull the front of the air assembly away from the rest of the filter housing. Note where the clamp ring fits over the plastic tabs at the bottom of the removed housing half. IMPORTANT: Becareful when removing the front of the housing as there is a wiring harness that is connected to an air mass sensor in the housing. I did not need to disconnect the wiring harness as I was able to move the loose part toward the firewall. 7. You are now able to access the filter to replace it. 8. Reverse these disassembly steps to everything back together properly.

Ran 03 avalanche out of gas now will not turn over?

By not turn over I'm guessing you mean won't start. Sometimes when you run a vehicle completely out of gas you will cause the fuel pump to burn out & have to replace it. Which can cost alot.

How do you fix a smelly septic?

Where is the knock sensor on a 2007 avalanche 5.3L?

The sensor is either located on TOP of the bell housing between the engine and transmission OR it is located on the side of the engine block near the freeze plugs. Also why do you feel it necessary to replace it? It is RARE that one is faulty and very easy to test. I copied this from a tech forum http://www.asashop.org/autoinc/JULY/techtips.htm Knock, Knock -- Forget The Hammer Trick

To test the knock sensor, some techs grab a hammer and tap on the block. While tapping, they look for spark retard. But most techs don't know how smart this sensor really is. The knock sensor in this engine is tuned to 7,000Hz, the frequency range of a spark knock condition. With that narrow range of sensitivity, the computer can't hear a noisy idler, worn cam lobes, rod bearings or a frustrated tech banging on the block with a hammer! Getting no retard out of the hammer test, many techs pull off the intake manifold and replace the $130 knock sensor. They're shocked to find the same code 52 on their next road test. Now what? The cause of the code 52 problem is usually not the knock sensor itself, but the signal wire between the knock sensor and the external connector by the intake manifold. This wire gets brittle if it is overheated. Removing the connector during disassembly can break the signal wire inside the shield. Obviously, that prevents the signal from getting to the PCM. We advise techs to replace this short length of knock sensor lead wire any time the intake manifold is removed. Especially if it's been overheated. The Resonance-style Knock Sensor Will Not Respond To Your Hammer Blows

Back in engine performance class you probably learned that there are two common types of knock sensors -- piezoelectric and piezoresistive. The piezoelectric sensor creates a voltage when it is exposed to vibration, while the piezoresistive type changes resistance during vibration. That information stills holds. However, in addition to the two types of sensors, there are two different styles of piezoelectric sensors -- mass and resonance. The mass sensor has its "ears" up to all vibrations. It produces a voltage at all vibration frequencies, creating its highest voltage at around 7,000Hz. This sensor forces the PCM to filter out the voltages above and below those generated at the 7,000Hz level. The resonance sensor is much smarter. It sends a significant voltage to the PCM only when it detects vibration in the 7,000Hz range. At all other times it is quiet as a mouse. This self-monitoring takes a load off the PCM. While Toyota uses both styles of piezoelectric sensors on its engines, the engine on the reverse side of this page uses only the resonance style. Unlike knock sensors from other manufacturers, striking near this sensor with a hammer will most likely get you nowhere, unless you are just looking to vent some frustration. About the only way to test this sensor is to over-advance the timing, attach your digital meter (AC scale), and take the truck for a test drive. If the sensor is working, you should see AC readings that correspond to the pinging you hear. * Brad Davis is the most recent addition to the Import Department of AutoLine Telediagnosis. How do you install an air filter in 2003 avalanche?

There is like 4 or 6 screws on top of the air box. Take the screws out and remove the old filter, clean out the box and put in the new filter.

Look at owners manual for more instructions.

Job takes about 5 minutes.

On a 2000 Maxima what would cause a loss of power upon quick acceleration at any speed The RPMs drop and it does not shift into the appropriate gear when you punch the gas?

I have been chasing this problem for around 6 months. Last bit of information is that it appears to be a fuel pressure/delivery problem. With a maintenance scanner connected and the above situation occurs, the oxygen sensor maxes out indicating too much oxygen and insufficient gas. Recommendation is to have fuel system pressure tested. Fuel filter has been replaced with no help. Fuel pump could be suspect. I had the same problem with my 2000 Maxima. It felt like the car was sucking too much air or running out of gas under full throttle acceloration as the RPM got past about 3500. Power suffered as well. I replace the MAF mass airflow sensor and it was like I had a new car! The part is pretty easy to replace, taking about 20 minutes. The MAF in line with the air intake system. I have had the same problem with my 2000 GLE Max, sometimes the TCS/Slip came on and never go out. After searching many forums I noticed most 2000 Nissan Maximas have defective coils, I brought it to dealership and pay some money for diagnostic, they ssaid that all six coils are defected, they caused back fired. It tooks me more than 6 hours to replace the coils and voila I really enjoy my Max again. Hope this will help.

Where is the cabin air filter in a 2007 avalanche?

2007+ GMT900, NBS (GM New Body Style) have no cabin air filter by design. There is an aftermarket option to install one....if really need one. I think GM blocked the area where you install the filter.

What could be the problem when oil pressure loss while driving 04 Chevy Avalanche?

1. verify that the oil pressure is actually dropping using a calibrated oil pressure gauge.

2. most likely scenario, the oil pressure is not really dropping, the oil pressure sending unit on your vehicle is bad...common Chevy v8 problem

How many grease fittings does a 2007 Avalanche have?

The 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche typically does not have any grease fittings, as it uses sealed components that are designed to be maintenance-free. Many modern vehicles, including the Avalanche, utilize bearings and joints that do not require regular greasing. However, it's always a good idea to consult the owner's manual or a dealership for specific maintenance information.

How do you replace the serpentine belt on a 2001 Chevy Prism?

First make a sketch of how the belt is routed over and under the pulleys. As you face the engine from the passenger side of the vehicle, look toward the firewall side of the engine for a pulley mounted on an "arm". This is the tensioner for the belt. On this arm is a 3/4" nut welded to it. Turn it clockwise toward the front of the car and the arm & pulley should swing enough for the belt to be pulled off. Replacing the belt is tricky because the new belt will be stiff and have bends set into a weird shape. It is best done with two people. One should be under the car and one on top. I did it with my wife. I was underneath. Start at the front of the car and work toward the rear leaving the tensioner for last. I made the final loop over the tensioner from underneath while my wife relieved the tensioner. You could do it from on top if they are skilled enough to un-tension the arm and position the belt. Both will have to hold the belt from slipping off as the belt as it is rerouted. Make some small golf club shaped or hooked tools to push / pull the belt over and under pulleys, it will help.

If you are doing this job yourself, it is a little easier to save the alternator for last.

Working from the front of the car you can pull on the tensioner (I used a 3/4" socket on a breaker bar) forward with one hand, while slipping the belt over the alternator pulley at the same time. Tricky, but it works!
