How do you remove the dash in a 1991 Chevy Lumina?

You would lower the steering column for starters. The dash panel pulls upward and the dash in front pulls toward you. Everything else is screwed in, so you need to unscrew everything else. This gets you to the nitty gritty of the dash.

Why does a 1992 Chevy Lumina 3.1L transmission sometimes slip after coming to a stop at which time I can quickly put it in park and then back into gear to go again?

My 1992 Euro Lumina 3.1 just recently started doing this too. I have no sound reasoning but am exploring options to keep it on the road. Ive found shifting down to 1 or 2 will sometimes let you pull out, and then you can just put the car back in overdrive and carry on problem free. It seems to do it most at stop lights or stop signs after driving a while.

My car has around 184,000 miles as a point of reference. I will try to respond if I find any real mechanical repairs or solutions.

How long have you been experiencing the same problem? Been going about a month with only slight worsening for me.

How do you change a water pump on Chevy lumina 1996 3100 engine?

Haynes Repair Manual covering 1995-2001 Chevrolet Lumina, Monte Carlo, and Impala (FWD) page 3-5 states....WATER PUMP REMOVAL... 1. Disconnect negative battery cable (CAUTION: on models with Theftlock audio system, be sure the lockout feature is turned off before disconnecting the battery). 2. Drain the antifreeze. 3. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts by using belt tension and a prybar to hold it still. 4. Remove the serpentine belt. On 3.1 L/3.4 L OHV engines, remove the small belt guard just above the water pump. 5. Remove the bolts/nuts and remove the water pump from the engine. WATER PUMP INSTALLATION... 1. Clean bolts, and other areas very well. 2. Make sure the old pump and the new pump are exactly the same (Note how the old one is located on the engine). 3.Clean the engine and water pump attaching surface with lacquer thinner or acetone. 4. Carefully attach the pump and gasket to the engine and tighten the bolts/nuts finger tight. 5. Carefully tighten the bolts/nuts to correct torque specs. 6. Reinstall other things you had to remove for access. 7. Refill the radiator. 8. Run the engine and check for leaks. I just did this and would add just a couple of minor things. You may well need more than belt tension and a pry bar to hold the pulley in place to remove the bolts. That didn't work for me. The pulley spun anyway. I used a box end wrench on one of the other bolts to hold the pulley in place while I loosened the remaining bolts. That worked until I got to the last one of course. Then I had some longer bolts with the same threading that I screwed in and held a pry bar against those to get the last one. I found that the pump would only go on one way. Unfortunately mine fell out before I was ready so I didn't know which way it had gone. But if you don't have it just right all the holes will not line up. Four of the five might but they that last one won't until you have it right. This was actually one of the easier repairs I've done. I'm not a very experienced mechanic and was freaked at first when I thought I'd have to take off the whole thing. I was relieved to find out you don't have to remove the housing. Just get the pulley off, remove five bolts and that's it.

Best heavy duty alternator for 1996 Chevrolet Lumina 31L Using laptop and portable printer x 8hrs per day?

Unfortunatly you haven't alot of choices for the alt. your vehicle is equipped with a CS130D 100A factory #10480119 or 10480071, GM only produced CS103D's up to 105 Amp, I would suggest as a licensed mechanic and alt rebuilder, your better bet is to get a battery that has a longer reserve capacity. Just remember an alternator is not a battery charger , its actually designed and meant to maintain the battery .

Why won't your speedometer and RPM gauge work in your 1993 Chevy Lumina?

The 1991 > 1994 Chevy Lumina Speedometer, Odometer and maybe the RPM gauge gets a signal from the ECM computer. This ECM signal is feed to a module in the instrument panel, which feeds the three items above. If all three are not working replace the instrument panel or the module (which is inside the panel), but swap the odometer to keep your mileage correct for the vehicle. Note: The ECM gets its signal from a VSS on the Transmission and the ECM feed three areas in the car: Speed Control, Speedometer and one other (?). If the speed control works, the problem is not the VSS or the ECM. The problem is in the Instrument Panel.
