Your clutch makes a funny noise when you step on it How do you fix it?

When your clutch makes a funny noise when you step on it, you might simply have sand in the mechanism. You can begin by cleaning the clutch. If this does not help, check the clutch slave cylinder to see if it is working properly as it tends to cause a squeaking sound when it is damaged.

If memory serves, I think that you'll find that the throwout bearing in

the clutch is failing. I'd run it by a transmission shop and have them

give a listen.

How do you know when you need a new clutch?

It is very easy to test your car for a worn clutch. Driving on road put 2nd or 3rd gear, push all way down accelerator pedal, car will not run as it should, only engine will speed up its rpm. This means clutch fiber is worn; traction has been lost and clutch disc should be replaced.

How do you add clutch fluid to a mini cooper 1991?

there is no such thing as clutch fluid. sorry you need a new clutch.

There is indeed clutch fluid(same as brake fluid) in a classic Mini. The master cylinder is in the engine compartment directly above where the clutch pedal is located.

I prefer to use Castrol brand available from Pep Boys in the USA.

If the system is empty though you need to source the leak. Either from the master cylinder into the car or from the slave cylinder down by the clutch.

Will a 350 small block flywheel work on a big block 454?

The crank in the big block is a lot bigger then the small block crank.

Therefore the 350 fly-wheel will not fit on the 454 or any hog block.

Nothing on a hog block will interchange with the awsome small block.

SORRY

A 95 Neon with 160000 miles clutch won't disengage. Is it worth it to replace the clutch on such an old car?

If it's still running good, no leaks or problems, and if the body is OK not all banged up and/or rusty, go ahead and replace the clutch. You probably will not be able to find a dependable car for what the clutch will cost. Remove the transmission.

Remove the clutch disk.

Remove the flywheel.

Reinstall transmission and other parts in reverse order of removal.

Can you shift the gears in automatic transmission cars even when the car is not running?

You can move the lever. But without pressure from the transmission fluid pump run by the engine, the only thing that will happen is the park latch locking and unlocking the drive shaft.

Incidentally, this is why you don't stop the engine when trying to stop without brakes. Without pressure from the pump, the transmission shifts into neutral, no matter where the gearshift lever is. Instead shift down one gear at a time, letting engine braking slow the car. Then turn uphill and shift into park when the car comes to rest.

How do you bleed the clutch system?

This is how I bled my 1994 F150 clutch system. First you will need the following; 1 quart of DOT3 fluid, 5/16 open end wrench, about 2' of 3/16 ID clear plastic tubing, an open end quart can, a light and a helper. Jack the front end up and use two vehicle stands. Locate the bleeder zerk which just above the line that goes to the slave. It looks like a brake line bleeder zerk. Next put the plastic line on the zerk with the other end in the can and open the zerk. The fluid will self bleed or flow out and into the can. Your helper will need to replace the fluid at the master cylinder. Continue until the bubbles stop. It may take about a pint or two until the air is all out. When the bubbles stop, close the zerk. That's all that needs to be done below. Next just bleed the master cylinder by pumping the pedal until all of the bubbles are gone. Now your done, clean up and go tell your wife that you fixed it.

pump pedal 1 2 3 4 to the floor hold, other person open screw on slave cylinder tssssit close screw then release pedal very slowly motion up,make sure reservoir wil not come empty, repeat repeat repeat in exercise motion verry well, until no more tssssit tssssit and it will be solid fluid ,gain

If it still wont work:Then either the master or slave cylinder has failed and requires replacement.

In general if it is not loosing fluid it needs a master

If it is loosing fluid you should be able to find the leak and replace the bad part.

When do you know when a clutch goes bad on a 1996 sunfire Pontiac?

With the car in gear, if you push on the accelerator and the car won't move, or moves very slowly, that could be a bad clutch. If the car will come up to speed eventually, but the engine revs up without much acceleration, it could be the clutch.

Take a look at this page about how the clutch works;

http://www.howstuffworks.com/clutch.htm

If the clutch plate is worn, there will be little or no friction and the clutch will not engage properly or at all.

How do you repair a clutch in a VW Beetle?

assuming this is an older beetle beetle clutch is easy.jack up rear of car and place on jack stands. unhook engine electrical, throttle cable, fuel line, and heater box cables.place jack under engine, undo the four bolts that secure engine to transmission. remove engine.with engine out of car, access to clutch is easy. replace clutch and pressure plate. reinstall engine. an experienced mechanic can do this in 1 hour. If the problem was the cable, remove cable from transmission end, unbolt pedal assembly from center tunnel. clutch pedal has a hook inside the center tunnel that the cable hooks on. slide new cable into tube in center tunnel. replace pedal assembly, keep cable tight enough that it doesn't unhook while you put it back on the transmission end.adjust for correct freeplay
