A Kyocera Strobe that has a blank screen can be fixed by replacing the screen and ribbon cable. Screens can be easily damaged from being dropped.

This didn't work for me. Here's what worked for my Centrios Atomic Global travel alarm clock with dual time:

A. Set time zone to "US".

1. In regular time mode (not alarm or dual time modes), press and hold "Set" until the tiny country code, indicating time zone, starts blinking either "JP", "US", "GB", or "DE" for Japan, US, Great Britain, or DEutschland/Germany, respectively.

2. Press "Adjust" repeatedly until "US" is blinking.

3. Press "Set" and the "US" will stop blinking and turn solid.

4. Now you can set the language by pressing "Set" repeatedly to cycle through "GB" for English, "FR" for French, "DE" for German, "ES" for Spanish, and "IT" for Italian.

5. Press "Mode" to return to normal clock mode.

B. Set the specific US time zone.

1. In normal clock mode (NOT alarm or "dual" time modes) displaying the day of the week (such as "WED" for Wednesday), press and release (don't hold) "Set".

2. The day of the week should BRIEFLY change to "PA" in large letters in the upper left, indicating the default Pacific time zone. This will quickly revert to the day of the week! You can leave the Pacific time zone selected, or go to the next step.

3. Before the "PA" disappears, quickly press "Adjust" repeatedly to cycle among "MO", "CE", "EA", and back to "PA", for MOuntain, CEntral, EAstern, and PAcific time zones, respectively. Stop when you reach the desired time zone.

4. After a second or two, the US time zone will revert to the day of the week.

5. Press "Receive" to try to get the time code signal from WWVB in Fort Collins, Colorado, USA. The station is operated by the US government and continuously transmits a low-frequency code that radio-controlled clocks like the Centrios "Atomic Global" travel alarm use to automatically set the time.

6. The time code takes a full minute to transmit/receive, so it can take some time for the clock to set itself. The signal is clearer at night and during cold weather, so be patient. It might help to place the clock over night in a window roughly facing Colorado.

Some important terms to keep in mind are: operator controlled - the robot has motors in it, maybe some electronics, it doesn't move until you push a button or lever on the controller. remote control - usually connects the robot to the controller by a wire, you can usually keep the batteries in the controller to make the robot lighter. radio control - the controller is a transmitter, the robot has a receiver on it, both need batteries or some other power suppy. autonomous - you set up the robot and hardwire it or program it to run sets of commands, when you set it down and turn it on it runs the commands. Usually requires programming knowledge (like BASIC, C language, Assembly, ForTran, COBOL or some others) and electronics knowledge (like soldering, power supply vs. load, Programmable Logic Arrays, Trans/ceivers, sensors, and many other options). But of course it is the most fun. sensory feedback - the robot can have switches, sensors or detectors on it that send information back to the controller (or its processor if it is autonomous). Might require a transmitter on the robot and a receiver in the controller (with some indicators to tell you what the robot is "sensing"). Anthropomorphism - "the attribution of uniquely human characteristics to non-human" things and critters. There is a ton of things that can go together to make a robot. If you learn how to fix toys, appliances and cars it definitely helps you figure out robots.

A transformer is a component that changes AC current from one voltage to another. A transformer consists of two coils, one connected to the input, and one connected to the output. A transformer can convert voltage up or down, depending on the number of windings on the coil. An adapter MAY include a transformer to change the voltage, but an adapter usually changes the voltage AND converts from AC to DC as well, and may have a regulator that locks the voltage to prevent a surge and other components that prevent what is called "ripple".
