What did the government fail to pass in the 1970s for women's rights?

Education programs receiving government money cannot treat men and women differently.

Why did the KKK kill people?

The Ku Klux Klan hung or slaughtered black people due to their skin color. The white supremacists believed that black people were inferior and barbaric, and that they didn't know how to properly live.

The blacks who had been slaves prior to the Civil War represented an economic threat beyond their loss as cheap labor. In times of hardship and limited resources, the advancement of blacks (promoted by Congress and the North) meant less for the white population. As with many other cases throughout history, the blacks and whites were two competing economic groups. One was historically impoverished, and the other one made so by the War. The fact that most ex-slaves were easily distinguished from whites made racism simple to practice, as was the segregation that followed in its place.

What is a racist?

Racism is a form of discrimination, based on race. Like other forms of discrimination, the core idea is that there are generalized differences between two groups, and that those differences make one group inherently superior.

More specifically, racism is the belief that human races exist and these races possess different abilities and characteristics and that some races are superior to others, making us inherently different and unequal. Often, racists do not want to live in multi-racial societies, rather they encourage separation and segregation and want to live amongst their "own kind." Others, more in keeping with other forms of discrimination, believe that it is perfectly fine to live among members of the "other" group, as long as there is a clear understanding of who is better and who has the power. Subservience and control is usually the goal in this case, as with most gender discrimination.

Racism does not inherently include violence as part of the definition, but when one group believes they are superior to another group, then biased behaviors based on those beliefs can spawn disrespect and humiliation. In extreme cases, racist beliefs (or any discriminatory beliefs) can promote violence, defamation, murder, rape, torture, and/or genocide.

Is banning same-sex marriage a violation of human rights?

Yes. Marriage is a right. It is a right applicable to humans. Same-sex couples are humans. Same-sex couples have human rights. Some governments do not permit same-sex couples to marry. Those governments are violating the human rights of same-sex couples.

What was the Jewish segregation?

Places that either didn't allow Jews or places that Jews had to be in separate places.

Does our criminal justice system work?

I think it's more up to the individual rather than the system, rehabilitation can work and does work. I think as taxpayers we would rather spend our money on trying to rehabilitate and educate rather than spending money our hard earned money on them to allow them to just sit on there butt. I think if anything we should want to take the risk and try to rehabilitate in prison systems so that when they have the opportunity to leave the prison system they can now contribute to society in a better way. We can't just give up.

What groups experience racism?

Well, every group can experience racism, doesn't matter what you are.

I hope this helped

hi no it did not help at all

Is calling someone black racism?

It's not racist, you couldn't get taken to court for it as it would just be seen as stating the obvious or bullying in some cases. Its just like calling a ginger person ginger or a tanned person orange. Some coloured people don't like the term 'black' the prefer African american or Jamaican etc.. Its only racist if you say you don't think that them being black is okay.

Why do some people think Jews are bad people?

No. Jews and the Jewish religion are neither evil nor discriminatory. Please see below.

As to any religion's "evilness", this is difficult to measure, since "evil" is a value-judgment more than an empirical term. However, if the virtues of Judaism are discussed, such as respect for the widow and the orphan, the view that the best man is one who cares for his wife, the desire to rebuild the world into a more respectful and decent place, and the desire to treat every person with dignity and care, these views generally align more with "good" than "evil". Some Christian and Muslim groups allege that Jews are evil. The Christians who say this do because the Jews rejected Christ as their Savior which assumes necessarily that Jesus was the Jews' Savior without understanding Jewish objections. The Muslims who say this base their hatred of Jews on verses of the Qur'an that claim that some Jews had been turned into monkeys and pigs because God despised them and the Hadiths concerning the Jewish Tribes of Arabia. However, a religion's good or evil character should not be determined by historical perceptions of a religion by other religions but on the merits of that philosophy and ritual as expressed by those people themselves.

Judaism is also not discriminatory. Judaism actually asserts a far greater degree of equality between Jews and non-Jews and between men and women than most other religions. As concerns Jewish-Gentile relations, Jews have always believed that Gentiles have a unique role in the physical world, the spiritual world, and the World-to-Come (the Jewish euphemism for the afterlife). Contrary to Christianity or Islam, Judaism does not have the idea of damnation at all (forget eternal damnation) and the sinners have the ability in the afterlife to purify their souls. The term Chosen-People is usually seen as the basis for the view that Jews are discriminatory, but this term is often misinterpreted. It is not a sentiment of ubermensch or something similar but an appointment or calling -- similar to the appointment of the Fellowship of the Ring in Lord of the Rings. The members of the Fellowship are assigned a specific task, but this does not make them "better people" than anyone else. This is reflected in the view that Gentiles should have equality in terms of civil and political law in almost all Jewish circles. In terms of men and women, women in Judaism are encouraged to get educations and join the workforce. Much is made of Asenath Barzani, a Kurdish Jewess in 1600 who became a respected Rabbi in her community. In the Cochin Jewish community of India, there are numerous traditionally female-sung balads/prayers.

Why does everyone hate Barack Obama?

Disclaimer: I take no stand in Politics and take no real side, but Bush is incorrectly bashed.

Everyone in America seemed to hate Bush because of a number of things including the 9/11 attacks, Hurricane Katrina, and the War on Terror. They also make fun of his speech, accent, and his logic.

Most of the people who despise Bush are Democrats, as Bush is a Republican. These Bush-Haters (they will be referred to as the Antis) claim that he responded in the wrong way to 9/11. Personally, I believe he responded in a as best of a way as anyone else could have responded when faced with the worst terrorist attack in US history.

The Antis also claimed Bush was a bad President for his response to Katrina. They claimed the response was so delayed because half the National Guard was in Iraq, when they should not have been. I would like to ask them this: "Would you rather Bush have done nothing about the terrorist issues, and worried more about domestic problems? The what do you think the terrorists would have done?"

Another "problem" with Bush was that he was a "warmonger" for going to war with Iraq. His war against terror helped put an end to terrorist threats. It's been 9 years since the attacks, and there have not been any other domestic attacks since.

Also, no one should claim Bush was a bad president for his speech, or accent, for that is discrimination, and goes against every Liberal idea in the book.

Those who wonder how Bush could have ever taken office when he is "so stupid and speaks like an 8 year old", (as I have seen said before on many forums), should realize that he was ELECTED INTO OFFICE BY THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. So therefore, you should stop bashing someone you voted to lead your country.

I am not a Democrat nor a Republican, and I have no public policy regarding politics, but I stand for Bush, for he stood strong when our nation needed it the most.

Why is racism still a problem in America?

Because, sadly, so many are raised by people who have had ignorant and racial thoughts in their heads thought to them since birth. They simply do not know any other way to deal with differences than with hatred. Whether American or not, racism is a sad example of how hate, violence, and ignorance travel from generation to generation. But thankfully, love, peace, and knowledge are also passed on, and these are really our only weapons against racism.

What test does the US Supreme Court use to determine the validity of laws that discriminate between groups of people?

The US Supreme Court often applies two levels of scrutiny to laws that may discriminate against groups of people. The rational basis test is always applied first when a state or federal statute is challenged as a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment Equal Protection Clause. In order for the law to survive the first challenge, the Court must be satisfied that the law is "rationally related to a legitimate government interest."

If a law, policy or executive order has a detrimental effect on an identifiable class of people (women, ethnic minorities, etc.), it must meet the higher standard of strict scrutiny, requiring the law serve a compelling government interest (compelling is not defined, but is understood to represent a higher level of legitimacy); be narrowly tailored to do no more than achieve the specific compelling interest; and must use the least restrictive means to accomplish this end.

In a study of federal cases that underwent strict scrutiny between 1990 and 2003, "Fatal in Theory and Strict in Fact: An Empirical Analysis of Strict Scrutiny in the Federal Court," Adam Winkler of the UCLA School of Law, discovered the application of strict scrutiny in federal courts resulted in approximately 30% of the laws being upheld, and 70% being overturned, overall.

Winkler contends the results are highly context-sensitive relative to the entity that passed the law: 50% of federal laws withstand this level of review; while only 29% of state statutes and 17% of city ordinances are likely to be upheld.

Statistics also vary depending on the type of law undergoing constitutional analysis. According to Winkler, "...27% of suspect classifications, 22% of free speech restrictions, 24% of fundamental rights infringements, 33% of freedom of association burdens, and 59% of religious liberty burdens adjudicated under strict scrutiny survive."

What are the muslim teachings which help promote racial harmony?

All people should promote racial harmony, including Muslims. The alternative is racism, discrimination, and war.

In addition, the following points need be highlighted:

  • slam is against racism and discrimination based on color, religion, faith, and/or nationality.
  • Quran says (meaning English translation): "O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted." (49:13). This confirms that the only evaluation criteria among people is their piety and good deeds for mankind benefit.
  • Islam limited the widely spread slavery through rewarding those who free slaves, and ruling freeing slaves as an approach to seek God forgiveness when committing sins. Examples are Belal who was a negro slave and the Persian Salman and both became two of the leaders in Islam.

What does racism feel like?

Racism makes people feel sad because they are getting bullied for their skin colour or nationality.

From the racist's point of view: it may make them feel superior to other human beings of another race, or feel as if they are upholding pride within their race and therefore fulfilling some duty.

From the one being discriminated against point of view: it may make them feel lowly and hurt their self esteem, or make them angry enough to either start a cause against racism or may make them racist in defense of their race.

When did discrimination in sports start?

I don't really now, I'm looking as well, but I've found out that the first professional black player in Britain is believed to have been Arthur Wharton, who signed for Darlington FC in 1889. I don't think there was much racism going on there though.

Sorry, not much help. :(

How many rights are gays denied?

Some include not being able to marry in some states, that kind of thing.

In some cases, couples are taxed individualy. So they may be paying more than a "man and woman" couple.

AnswerRights vary from state to state and from country to country. Where I'm from just off the top i head I know we cannot marry, we cannot serve in the military openly, you have no rights in a hospital if your partner gets injured, the whole taxes thing stated up there. There are probably many more, just none that I can think of at the moment.

How can you show respect for other religions?

Answering as a Christian:

We should be prudent about our knowledge and be soldiers for Christ. You should not insist on directly attacking someone else and there beliefs. Now, protecting yourself is different. If you fall into a conversation, or argument, it would be smart to conversate as well, but keep in mind who you are speaking for, Jesus. Do not become defensive, if they do, turn the other cheek like Jesus told us to do. Simply respect them even if you must avoid them. To Christians, remember... "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12. (NIV)

Answering as a person:

It would be smart to avoid religious arguments and conflicts with them, if you desire not to disrespect them. Hold your tongue against them, and against their beliefs.

Also, If us Christians truly desire to respect them, pray for them.

Do Jews control the government?

Considering how small a portion of the population the Jewish people are in America, and the representative government that the country has, it would be pretty difficult to be able to justify such a belief.

What do Muslims think about prejudice and discrimination?

This is an irrational question one which furthers dangerous stereotypes, this is because the definition of Islam is -the civilization of Muslims collectively which is governed by the Muslim religion.

Therefore it would become unfair to label Islam as racist or not racist. I have come across really racist degenerates (I mean people) who are Muslim, and I have come across non racist Muslim people.

Besides people fail to see that Islam is broken up into subcultures some who hold irrational extremist beliefs and others who don't. You just can't ask that question because it eliminates individualism

What is being done about racism?

The government can't stop racism, but it has done things to help keep people from becoming victims of racism. One of them is the Civil Rights Act that was passed in 1964. Another is the establishment of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission which was formed in 1965.
