Both of my late model vehicles do this; the fuel injected vehicles have a variation of a idle speed motor/ idle speed control valve/ many different names. What they do is adjust the idle. Many times they can cause a slight lean condition which manifests itself as a slight rough idle. I would not worry about it and don't throw dollar bills at it.

How do you remove an ignition tumbler from a 1977 Chevrolet ova?
you have to remove the steering wheel. Then there is a locking hub with a snap ring holding it in place remove it . Then remove the turnsignal actator. then there will either be a torques head screw of a phyllips head screw right above the lock clyinder that must come out. then the lock cylinder will come right out. this is a tough job because you need a lot of paitience and pay close attention to how things come apart. I'd rate it at a 9 on a 1 to 10 scale for a novice

The CC system on a Vanagon is vacuum actuated; overly complex and thus failure prone IMHO. For fault you describe I'd start by replacing the CC control module; located (on my '91 Westy) behind the glove box (as in remove the glove box to get to it). There's only a few components to the CC system; the vacuum pump (engine compartment); the control module (indicated above); and the vacuum breaker switch (under the brake pedal). Vacuum pump and/or vacuum breaker switch failure (to include hoses) will result in decrease in speed or inability to set at all (won't hold a vacuum); continuing to accelerate could be caused by faulty control module. Bentley (factory) manual has good fault logic tree for troubleshooting system; somebody might have posted same to internet. Suggest Bus Depot or Go Westy for best internet parts prices (w/quality). Good luck!

How can you tell if you have a problem with your power steering pump?
Typically, it may start to make a fairly loud humming noise, especially when turning the steering wheel (a little noise is sometimes normal). It may also 'pulse' when turning the wheel or while driving straight. While turning, steering may intermittently become stiff and then easy. The power steering fluid reservoir may be low (this should be checked regularly and never be allowed to run low). Power steering fluid leaks may be present (check for spots under the vehicle and/or 'wet' power steering lines and components). Also, many shops can help diagnose the problem for little or no cost. Try and find one you trust and take advantage of their expertise.
