Blown fuse, bulb, or bad brake light switch.

Start by releasing the handbrake, and chocking the front wheels (put it in park, too).

REmove the rear wheels. (take obvious precautions with jackstands, etc.) Remove the two caliper mounting bolts and suspend the caliper with a piece of wire from the spring (i.e. don't let it dangle by the brake line. The rotor should pop right off. The wild card factor is RUST. Gently tapping on the rotor with a mallet might help. Sometimes you will need a puller.

When you put the new rotor on, make sure you have cleaned it with plenty of brake cleaner. As you install it, you will notice that there are tiny brake shoes on the hub. That is your emergency brake. That's what keeps the rotor from coming off most times. By releasing the emergency brake before you get started, you skip this frustrating obstacle.

The New rotor goes on, reinstall the caliper by slipping it over the rotor and retighten the caliper bolts. Reinstall the wheels, remove jackstands, lower car and check for excess nuts and bolts. Gently Road test the vehicle.

There are three other things a car needs to start and run besides having the engine turn over. The first is spark, so check the plugs and coils. also check the fuses to the ignition, engine computer and fuel pump. The next is fuel. Make sure there is fuel getting to the engine. Check to make sure the pump turns on when you turn the key (there'll be whine from the rear of the car for a second or two). If not, check the relay and wiring using a test light where the relay plugs in (there's a fuse box under the hood where the relay lives). Use a wiring diagram to find the control and load wires. The control wires will have one lead to ground (the engine computer) and another that has power when the engine is cranked. The load wires have one for the fuel pump and another constantly on. If these check out, replace the relay. If the pump doesn't come on after the wiring and relay check out, it may need to be replaced (this lives in the tank).

Another common problem with this car is if the chain (2.7 liter) stretches out and screws up the valve timing or the belt breaks (3.2 or 3.5 liter). These will not let the engine start either.

In the case of the 2.7 liter, the chain, guides and water pump will need replacement (very common failure with the 2.7liter) and these parts are about $500 to $750 not including labor. If this is a 3.2 or 3.5, the belt, tensioner and water pump will be about $150, not including labor.

I would get a service manual for this car if you intend on keeping it and take the car to a competent mechanic to check this out. These are not really easy to do yourself and you'll save more money in the long run.

Cooling fans are controlled by the computer based on input from temperature sensor. After the vehicle is shut down, if the temperature is still high, the computer will turn on the fans to cool the engine.

CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR

The crankshaft sensor is located on the passengers side of the transmission housing, above the differential housing Crankshaft Position Sensor The bottom of the sensor sits above the drive plate

REMOVAL

Disconnect electrical connector from crankshaft position sensor.

Remove sensor mounting screw. Remove sensor.

INSTALLATION

Install sensor and push sensor down until contact is made with the transmission case. While holding the sensor in this position, install and tighten the retaining bolt to 12 N·m (105 in. lbs.) torque.

Connect electrical connector to crankshaft position sensor.

The 2.7L uses 5W30. The 3.5L uses 10W30.

Should be in front of the radiator

it means , there is a malfunction in the circuit related to cam position sensor.that means part, plugs, and wiring and possible ECM also mean ECM is not getting a signal from cam sensor resulting no start.

Using a set of a/c gauges put the blue hose on the low side (suction side) and the red hose on the high side (discharge side) and make sure that there is no freon in the system and if you have freon in the system then you will have to go to an automotive a/c shop and have them reclaim it for you..

Put the yellow hose on your vacuum pump and let it run for about 1 hour and then let it sit for 1 hour so that you can see if it will at least hold the vacuum pulled.

If so then let it run for an additional hour and then start the recharging process remembering to keep the low side readings between 30 to 40psi and the high side between 200 to 250psi depending on the outside temperature…………….

That is the water pump weep hole. Your water pump need replaced.

i had a similar problem and it was the air hose had a crack... you cvouldnt see it but if you covered it up it worked fine. if you dont want to buy a new one test it out and wrap it in electrical tape or duct tape... which is still holding my car together. lol. good luck

You need to change the camshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor. i had the same problem with my 98 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.2 at 150K miles and it kept getting worse. Change to those 2 sensors and it runs great at 188K miles. Did the job myself it was very easy. Good luck!

Must remove the entire engine

105,000 miles or before. that is for the v6 model. if you have a 4 cylinder check your manual. it should say in the service chart. if not it may have a timing chain with no replacement required.

A loose wire on a 98 Dodge Intrepid car horn will make it stop working. Another reason it may stop working is a blown fuse.

Most of the time, and it seems especially true about Chrysler vehicles, a new brake pads and rotors need a period of time to be "broken in". As the brakes are used, the brake pads put small grooves in the rotor that is unique to every pad. The squeaking you are hearing are the brake pads cutting the rotor. If this continues for a long period of time, definitely take your car back to the shop where you had the brakes installed.

I had to replace the engine in my 2002 Intrepid and it cost me a good $3,500. They have to match the year and vin number up with a compatible engine and the mechanic will need to tear the whole front end apart to lift the engine in/out. I can tell you there are very few engines left when I was searching for one a month ago.
