Ford Contour

( No ) the Ford Contour is a front wheel drive vehicle

It is a timing belt and it is best to replace the idler, tensioner and belt at once. Also, the water pump if it is high mileage.

Since nobody could help me - I drilled and hacksawed the thing to hell - Literally destroyed the metal and plastic, and shredded the fabric. Ford Contour and the Ford Motor Company is a ROYAL PIECE OF SCHITTT in my opinion. I have hated driving and owning the Ford Contour as long as I've had it. I will drive it into the ground and I will never ever own another piece of schhittt from Ford ever again. That company can rot in hell for the schitttt it offers to hard working consumers!

On my 1996 contour the heater would not work. I found from the dealer that under the passenger dash (kick panel) there is a relay they replaced. It is very easy to get at

It dosen't have timing marks. It also dosen't have any keyways on the gears. The engine is timed by using special tools that align and hold the cams in place, while you installl the belt and tighten the cam sprocket bolts down on the cams. The crank is aligned using a special tool that is inserted into a hole in the block, after a special plug is removed down low on the block.

There can be many causes of overheating. Clogged radiator, stuck thermostat, inoperable cooling fan, bad water pump, defective radiator cap, air trapped in cooling system, and blown head gasket.

The spark plugs on the 2.0 liter four cylinder are gapped at ( .050 inch )

For the 2.5 liter V6 ( .054 inch spark plug gap )

Sometimes the bulbs dim with age but usually dim headlights are the result of a poor ground connection, probably at the battery terminal, or a bad battery or poor alternator output. Your local auto parts store professional can check your battery and alternator for you at no charge. Good luck

The 2.5 litre V6 engine takes ( 5.8 U.S. quarts of 5W-30 )

Take it to a dealer. You can deploy the air bag if not done properly. However, Ford only built Contours from 1995 to 2000.

Wrong, this is not an interference engine. The moving parts will not touch, so you will be fine. Replace the belt.

YES, that may have caused a lot of damage to that engine. lets start with bent valves,damage pistons,push rods ,cam shaft,some cases crank shaft. well if everything went wrong engine overhaul/rebuild will be needed.

Cooling fans not coming on, thermostat stuck shut, low coolant, bad/plugged rad, water pump impeller not spinning, broken belt to water pump are places to start

I have replaced 5 thermostat's in my car in 3 years. I don't understand why it goes through them so fast but that always seems to be my problem.

Disconnect it and use a garden hose with a power nozzle. That should clean it out.

There are a LOT of variables that come into play here. What engine/transmission do you have? How fast do you drive? Is it highway, city, or a mixture of miles? How much of a load do you have in the car? etc., etc.....

The fuel tank has a 14.5 gallon capacity. If you have the 4-cylinder engine with a manual transmission, about 25mpg highway would be reasonable, so your range would be about 360 miles. If you have the 2.5 V6 and automatic trans, then you can expect a little lower mileage, or probably around 320 miles. Knock about 20% off those numbers for city driving.

Range sensors do just what the name implies. They sense the transmission range the operator of the vehicle has selected. These sensors are important for transmission shift patterns and characteristics. Also in some vehicles they control starting, as you may start an engine in neutral and park alone.

Depending on the vehicle, if they are also replacing the fuel pump/sending unit, that price is not out of line. But just replacing the tank alone, it is a little high, again depending on the vehicle.

From my Experience most of the time its a fuse that is blown. The dashboard and tail lights run off the same fuse

It is located on the end of the fuel rail. It is held on by two small bolts. It will have a small wire harness plugged into it, and a vacuum line plugged onto the bottom of it. It is only used on returnless type fuel systems of the Contour.
