The keys on the 1998 Ford Contour are NOT chipped

If it is a 6 cylinder 2.5L EFI enging, it is on front side of the engine. Find the the oil cap on top of your engine and go staight down from there, it is almost directly underneith it. You should be able to see from the top if you look closely.

It's located in the trunk, driver side wall behind the mat.

Depends on the purpose of the fuse. Use exactly the same size fuse as the one you remove, otherwise you may cause a fire. The fuse protects the wiring from overheating and catching fire.

The Volvo 240,740 and 940 have index marks which line up with dots on the cam and distributor gears. The crank gear has a mark in the outer guide washer which lines up with a mark on the seal cover. The cam index mark is nearly straight up on the inner cver, the distributor index mark is horizontal on the left of the gear(car's left). If you time the engine to TDC before removing the lower pulley it will all stay nicely in place. In addition Volvo has made it easier for you by placing marks on the belt which line up with the marks on the pulley's. Note that on later models the distributor is on the back of the engine and the distributor gear just drives the oil pump. Correct timing is unnecessary. Confirm that the tensioner bearing is free and not noisy or you will have a problem later.

The header motor is under the passenger side dash, behind the glove box. Access by removing 'upper footwell trim panel' on passenger side, 4 pull-out pins, then stick your head in footwell and look up. Remove glovebox (two tiny hex nuts on underside of piano hinge) for move access. The motor, the motor resistor pack, the blower motor switch, and the associated wiring harnesses, have had a variety of recalls made against them -- check with a Ford dealer to see which recalls might apply to your problem.

It should just pop off as far as i know.

2nd :

The front door has screws covered behind small caps. Use a small flat head screwdriver to remove them. This will expose the screws. The door has screws at the bottom and sides. Remove the srews (mark each screw as there are 3-4 different srews used on this door!!!)

Once all srews are removed, gently wiggle the door panel upwards.

Total time: 5-10 mins.

Follow the larger hose from the a/c compressor

Use a small thin bladed screw driver or knife too remove the clock asswembly. The best way I've found is to gently pry at the lower right corner being careful not to damage the plastic surround. Once you get the clock assembly out, disconnect it from the wiring harness. Right next to the wiring harness plug is the bulb. If you look closely you'll see a small slot where you can use the same small screwdriver to unscrew the bulb. I believe the light bulbs are still available through Ford. And at one time the green cover was available as well. They may have been discontinued by now. Between these to parts departments, they can find anything left in Fords parts inventory and are the most knowledgable parts depts I've ever found. I just replaced the TSS (sometimes called the Transmission Speed Sensor or Turbine Speed Sensor) on my 1999 Ford Contour... perhaps it is similar to your 2000 Contour. I removed the driver's side front wheel and the TSS was clearly visible on the side of the automatic transaxle. I broke the sensor trying to pull it out (it was corroded in place) and wound up drilling out the plastic around the magnetic core. What I would do is, after removing the 2-pin connector and retaining bolt, I would tap the sensor to try to get it to rotate a bit and free it up, then I would try to wedge a small screwdriver under the sensor and pry up as I rotated the sensor. This or similar procedure should get it out. I was only able to find the replacement sensor at O'Reilly's in my area and it was around $75. All other parts houses kept trying to sell me a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) and didn't even show the TSS. Of course, Ford would have the part for considerably more $.

use a pry bar and replace hood after you break it

First of all, check the fuse on the fuse box under blower motor. If the fuse is ok, the blower control switch could be the culprit.

nius: ford contours are known for their fault heater blowers, the switch melts as well as the connections to it... the switch is 20 bux, for has a recal on the plug (10 year 100,000 mile which ever comes first) take it to a for dealer and they should fix it for free

What engine? Ford contour 2.0L DOHC eng. distributorless ignition are controlled by the main PCM

There is an ignition module on the 99 contour 2.0 with automatic transmission. It is shown in the schematics for this model.

It should be located on the top of the thermostat housing just at the right hand end of the engine. I am assuming that you are looking for the guage sensor.

Generally a surge at low RPMS is caused by a defective vaccum componet or a cracked vaccum line. It still leaks at higher speed but you don't notice it because the engine is GENERATING more volume of vaccum to cover it up. Try this: Take some WD40 and lightly spray it around vaccum lines while the motor is running; as soon as the engine smoothes out you have found the troubled part. The wd40 will TEMPORARILY seal the leak.

Temp sender on the 289 should be located at the front of the intake manifold.

When the overdrive button is pushed, the overdrive is shut OFF.

But if you push the button again the overdrive is allowed , so it would be ON

So , if you are on the highway or freeway where the speed is higher just

look at the RPM on your tachometer to tell if you are in overdrive because

the RPM will be lower

yes ..lts not required but while changing this you can get sediment in your oil and cause problems .. id make sure to empty the oil completely and maybe even throw a quart through to rinse it before you add the new oil.. better safe than sorry

Check the wiring at the starter. Some fords have a power wire there, if it breaks or comes loose these problems can occur.

Wrong pulley. Get a correct pulley from the dealer.

Alternatively, consider that the semi-universal pulley you bought from the auto parts store was meant for use by a mechanic who is not blind and has eyes. The mechanic can see that by removing or adding a flat washer you can correct a problem of a non-rotating part contacting a rotating part.

I have to put gas in my car a little at a time. It will act as if it is full and spit gas out. sounds like a blockage in fuel tank vent system. check ford dealer for no listed recall items its free someone might have removed fuel tank for a fuel pump and pinched the vent for tank. when putting tank back g

If both arnt working it is just the internal fan blower take it to the dealer or mech and have them check the switches first then the blower! good luck

Also, check the fuse in the main fuse box. It will be fuse 37 (light green with a 30 rating listed on it).

Check the main fuse box wiring harness (it's located on the interior drives side, just under the dash if it's an automatic transmission) Look at the main wiring harness coming into the box. It's on the underside of the fuse box and towards the back when it is closed. There is a green wire and fat red wire coming in. The red wire is known to burn out. If the wire look brown theres your problem. Disconnect the battery,pull out the connector and see if the connection is salvagable. Are the pins secure ect. If they are replace the connector to the fuse box. May have to go to a salvage yard to get it or the whole fuse box cause ford wants to sell the whole wiring harness.

Also you could check the relay 14 and the switches.

the injector may be worn off, try replacing the flooded cylinder injector
