If you want constant air movement in you home leave the fan on. If you just want the fan to cycle on with the compressor, move the switch to auto. It does not harm the fan either way.

That is just what happens. alot of cars have that. Once you go past 20 m/h they just lock.

When you, or your "helper" cut the horn, I assume you mean he cut the wires to the horn. If this is the case, the click you hear is the horn relay trying to send power to the horn which is now disconnected.

Unhook the speedometer cable from the transmission and the instrument cluster in the dash. Take the actually metal cable out. Clean it with solvent. Re-grease with "lithium-based" lubricant. Re-insert.

Also check for fraying. If so, replace cable.

Timing belts are a somewhat complex repair and I wouldn't recommend attempting it if you don't have the experience to do so. An incorrectly timed engine could result in severe engine damage.

Fuel filter is located between engine and firewall on drivers side of engine comartment

There are 3 bolts. 1 on the top and 2 on the bottom. Take them out and take loose the battery cable and the solenoid wire. You will have to take the battery and tray out to get it out the top. Steering rack keeps you from taking it out the bottom.

It could be a dome light. To find out what is draining the battery overnight you need to take off the negative battery terminal and put a test light or Voltage tester between the 2 terminals. With everything off and all the doors shut or open if you have the dome light turned off, the test light or voltage tester will light up or show voltage. Go to the fuse block and take a fuse out one by one. If the light goes out when you pull a particular fuse, then that is the circuit that is draining the battery and you can take a closer look at it.

1.Remove the front wheels.

2 Raise the vehicle and support it on jack stands. Don't trust a jack.

3. Remove the fender mounting bolts and nuts.

4. Detach the fender.

idle valve is on the top of the engine held on by two bolts it is called an iac valve. it is about 5 inches long and has a plug with only two pins in it

on the left (passenger side) of the injector pump is your throttle. to the front and below the steel piece that turns is a screw with a spring on it. turn it in for up and out for down

i have a 98 escort zx-2 that I'm in the middle of swapping the motor out of. it should be right under the intake manifold. assuming its like mine, that intake manifold should be obvious, its under that, somewhat closer the the drivers side, facing that way too.

First check the speedometer cable going into the top of the transmission. If it is not broken the instrument cluster must be replaced.

Have someone trigger the release inside the passenger compartment while someone else is prying the gas tank cover with a screwdriver.

First you must remove the plastic assembly around the shifter lever. This will require a flat head screwdriver. There are 4 screws total, and two are "hidden" behind plastic covers on the front of the plastic surrounding. They can also be popped off using the screwdriver. After that, remove the "coin holder" and the plastic from around the shifter. Pull off the boot and shifter mat. YOu will need a 12mm wrench or ratchet at this point to remove the 3 bolts that connect the shifter to the transmission. After those are removed you can pull out the shifter and you are done.

changing an alternator is easy.

Use a tie iron from your spare tire kit. Slide it between the front of the housing and the frame of the body. To make it simple the tire iron should run up and down and rest just to the left of the neck of the fill cap for your radiator. Pull back on the tire iron to apply pressure against the alternator.

*Before you do the above mentioned step: There should be a tensioner that applies tension to the belts. Look at that part and there is probably a square hole that is fit for a standard socket wrench. If so, attach your socket wrench and use it to pull the tensioner and release the tension so that you may remove the belt from the alternator. Once the belt is removed from the alternator, the other two bolts should come out pretty easy. Once they are removed you can get better access to the other cables attached to the alternator. Same process for releasing tension to put the belt back on once the alternator is bolted back in.

Remove the top screw and slowly ease back on the tire iron. The alternator acts like a tensioning device for the serpentine belt...this is why you have to apply slight pressure. If you don't apply pressure you can still back out the top screw, but it will "pop" on you, possible injury may occur. After removing the top screw, remove your bottom screw and work the alternator left and right to lossen it from the engine mount...This part is difficult!! Unplug your electrical connection by lifting on the plastic latch and pulling out slowly. You have a screw to remove which takes a 13mm socket. Use the reverse order to install the new one....remember to apply pressure when putting your top screw back in...good luck. I did this yestersay it took about 20 minutes...i am not a mechanic!

There is an engine temperature sensor that operates the cooling fan.

The '99 escort is rated for a max. towing of 1000 lbs providing it has a manual transmission. Towing with the auto transmission isn't recommended.
