Release the tension on the idler pulley in the rear of the motor spin the nut in the center like you were tightening, and the pressure will be released from the serpentine belt. three 15mm bolts on the top of the alternetor will loosen it. 10mm nut on alternetor and a harness are all that hold it on. on the drivers side of the engine compartment there is a rectangular black plastic box. it has 4 clips near the corners. the clips are easily pushed off the tabs on the top of the box. once this is done, pulling up on the box exposes the filter. grab the filter, pull it out and install the new one in its place. Make sure you haven't pulled a hose loose at the back. Wrestling the top cover off the filter might pull one off the back behind the cover. They easily slip back on if you do.

Remove the gas cap to relieve the pressure in the fuel system prior to changing the fuel filter. You will still need to use some kind of container to catch any excess dripping fuel.

I just changed the fuel filter on my 2005 Escape today. The filter is cannister style and located under the car, on the driver's side, about even with the rear door. It is held in place with what amounts to a large hose clamp, and is in a protective sleeve. The fuel line end fittings are retained with plastic clips, which can be released by squeezing the tips together and pushing them back into the fitting. If you break the clips, don't worry - a new set comes with the replacement filter. I used a Fram G3802A filter, which fits most Escapes. The fuel system is under pressure, so be careful. I don't know if there is a way to relieve it, but used a pan to catch the fuel that spurted out, and had no problem. There may be a special tool for servicing this filter, but I did fine with an ordinary screwdriver and pliers. Hope this helps!

I just changed my 2004 ford escape fuel filter and i used this very helpful answer. the only thing i have to add is the fuel is under lots of pressure so when you go to release the the fuel filter wear some sunglasses or anything else to protect your eyes! other than that its really easy!

Remove R3 (fuel pump relay) and idle engine until it stops. Then crank starter for 5 seconds. Only a little gas will come out then, most of it from the filter itself.

They are located on the exhaust piping, 1 off each exhaust manifold (2 exhaust manifolds in a V 6) before the Catholic converter and 1 off each exhaust tubing further down after the catholic converter ( 2 exhaust tubing).

You put in what the owner's manual recommends. Contrary to what aftermarket coolant manufacturers say, there is no such thing as a universal coolant. Put in the wrong stuff and you can damage water pump seals and create enough electrolysis to eat up your heater core. It's much cheaper to buy the right coolant the first time around.
