How do you change the dash mounted ignition switch in a 94 Geo Prism?
Mine has been getting worse and worse. I had to press the key in really far to get the car to start. But now I have to not put it in quite so far but more wiggle it. So I figured it was time to change it out. 55 bucks and change to the part from Advance Auto Parts, similar price at NAPA. 2-3 days to get it in. Hope the old GEO holds out that long! Now I just need the kids at the tech school to change the heater core this Fall!
:12 Steps to do this job!Okay, I did the job. It was extremely easy. Anyone can do it. It's a 12-step program for success.Tools you will need:
Number 10 Socket (for dashboard bolts)
A paperclip (for poking the little tab to get the old one out)
Possibly a flat screwdriver or similar tool.
Your old keys.
Step 1: Remove the battery cable so you don't fry yourself.
Step 2: Pry the two little plastic covers from the dash just below the mid-line. A fingernail should do it, but perhaps a screwdriver or some such.
Step 3: Get your socket set out, a #10 did mine, and undo those two bolts. The dash should come down and not off.
Step 4: You will need to have your key in the ignition, not locked and not started I believe did it.
Step 5: There is this little hole/tab on the bottom of either unit, the old or new, look at the new to get a good view.
Step 6: Poke that little tab with the paperclip or some such. It should loosen the unit and if it doesn't pull right out, you probably have the key in the wrong position. Yank it out!
Step 7: I had to pry pretty hard to get the plastic face off the old ignition switch, but it's pretty durable and it came off with a little effort. Stick it on the new one.
Step 8: Slide the new unit in the hole in your dash. It's pretty obvious how it goes in, only one right way to do so. It should make a satisfying click once it is fully in. You're almost done!
Step 9: This was the slightly tricky part, lifting the dash back in place. The right side went in easy, the left side needed a little muscle. BANG! It went in. Okay, not that tricky.
Step 10: You might want to put the bolts back in and close up the dash, or maybe test the start to see if it works first. Up to you I guess. And put the covers back on, if you didn't lose them! I lost one, but it will show up, probably.
Step 11: Turn the key and drive somewhere and trade in your 94 Geo for a decent vehicle! Okay, so this may not be an option, but as my heater core is almost totally shot and Winter is a few months off, it sounds like a good idea to me!
Step 12: There is no step twelve, unless I forgot something but I don't think I did. Okay, pat yourself on the back, you did very well. Pretty easy wasn't it? I told you so. Them Geos were pretty well designed!
And that is how you change the ignition switch on a 1994 Geo Prism. It is a very simple job, if I can do it anyone can. Super easy to do!
mr.frank.jackson@gmail.com
mr.frank is right - this is super easy to do. Two quick notes:
(1) In step 6 (Poke that little tab...), the key should be turned to ACC.
(2) I took my broken ignition switch to a locksmith and they were able to fix it for 20 bucks. The advantage of fixing the old is that the same key will continue to work for the doors, trunk, and the ignition switch. (It was also cheaper than buying a new switch.) If the switch is not repairable, the locksmith mentioned that you may be able to track down an "unkeyed" ignition switch which can they can key for you based upon the key code. You get the key code based on the vin number from a dealer's parts dept. I'm not sure how much this costs, but it may be worth looking into so that you don't need more than one key for the old Geo.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of wet bulb thermometer?
bankbet99: There are two types of thermometers and hygrometers: thermometer and hygrometer wet and dry bulb measurement method, electronic humidity sensor measurement method
The maintenance of the wet and dry ball method is quite simple. In actual use, you only need to add water to the wet ball and replace the wet ball gauze regularly.
The electronic humidity sensor is an intelligent electronic conductor to work and does not require any maintenance.
Electronic humidity sensors have been used in recent decades. Manufacturers must use standard humidity generators to calibrate the products before they leave the factory. The accuracy of electronic humidity sensors can reach 2% to 3% RH.
The humidity sensor adopts semiconductor technology, so there are requirements for the ambient temperature used. Exceeding the specified temperature will cause damage to the sensor. But the accuracy is still higher than that of electronic ones.
1997 geo which is the hot wire for radio?
Hi, The answer I hhave in my '97 service book is the with wire is the hot all the time. Steve H.
Does a 1995 Geo Prizm have a timing belt or chain?
It has a timing belt, as do all Prizms from 1989 to 1997. From 1998 on they use a timing chain.
Replacement is recommended every 60,000 miles, but I've seen many go 75,000- 80,000 miles. Once heard on "Car Talk" a girl who had over 200k miles on the original t-belt.
This is a non-interference engine, so there is no engine damage should the belt break, but, of course, the engine won't run.
I recommend replacing the tensioner and spring, water pump, and crank seal every second timing belt, and don't forget the hose behind the water pump pipe.
Source: I own a used car rental business and have owned about a dozen of these cars.
i would get the transmission checked it sounds like your torque converter
How do you remove the rear speakers in a 1994 Geo Prizm?
Where is the bleeder valve for the clutch on a 1995 Geo Prizm?
It is located on the clutch slave cylinder. The slave cylinder is mounted on top of the transmission. Have someone push on the clutch cable and you will see movement on the cylinder.
How do you hook up an after-market stereo on a 1995 Geo prizm?
There are dash kits available to adapt other stereo sizes and also wiring harness adapters. Google for "geo prizm dash kit". Total cost is about $25. I've done it a couple of times, pretty straightforward.
Access to the radio is by removing the surround - I think there are a couple of screws at the bottom and it pops off.
What is the tire size for a 1995 Geo Prizm?
It's either 175/65/14 or 185/65/14 depending on whether or not it is a base or LSI. The 1995 Prizm LSI has 185/65/14. It might depend on the rims you have on the car too.
What is wet and dry bulb thermometer units measured in?
Well it is the same as what you measure a thermometer with which is Celsius and Fahrenheit which is C and F
Location of Circuit opening relay GEO Prism?
Not sure if it's same but on 1997 prism/corolla it is behind the radio in the center binnacle on the drivers side. I searched for five hours on Sunday. Called Toyota service today and got the answer. Took me about fifteen minutes to open dash and get to it.
Where do you fill the brake fluid on a 1996 Geo Prism LSI?
in the fill resivor attached to the master cylinder assembaly
How do you change a serpentine belt in a 1992 Geo Prizm?
Loosen the belt tensioner and take the old belt off. Put the new one on and let the tensioner back in position. If you don't have a tensioner, you'll have to loosen the alternator and ac compressor adjusting bolts.
The "kick" is the extra throttle given to the engine when the AC compressor comes on. It's done so that the engine won't die every time the compressor cycles on. If your passenger compartment fan isn't working, it's probably the motor, wiring, connector the switch or possibly a fuse, depending on how your vehicle is wired. Your blower motor is probably bad!
How would you use a wet bulb thermometer and a dry bulb thermometer to find the relative humidity?
You would use both to determine the relative humidity.
Where is the thermostat located on a 1994 Geo Prism?
Just trace your top radiator hose to where it's connected to the engine. That piece is called the thermostat housing. Drain out a couple of quarts of coolant from the radiator, remove the top hose, remove the two nuts from the housing and this will reveal the thermostat. Be sure to get a new gasket for the new one too. I don't recommend reusing gaskets. Simple job. Maybe 30 minutes from start to finish. Actually, I just replaced mine today, and it was nowhere near where this location was. I wound up following where the BOTTOM radiator hose went to the engine, and there was the thermostat housing. Took a bit longer, but still was pretty easy. I simply removed the coolant recovery tank and set it aside, took off the two 10 mm nuts that held the thermostat housing on (be careful... the temperature sensor is in the housing... there is a wire that is plugged into this sensor. I left it on and carefully pulled off the housing). You will most likely have to pry out the thermostat... it has a rubber gasket around the outside of the thermostat... was a little bit stubborn removing it. That's pretty much it. I removed the front "thermostat housing" and there was nothing there.
Where is the oxygen sensor on a 1996 Geo Prism?
It's screwed into the exhaust pipe.
It's screwed into the exhaust pipe. Near the engine, not the tail pipe.
How do you replace the distributor cap on a 1991 Cavalier?
It depends on what engine you have. Some don't have distributers. GoodluckJoe
For the 1.8L & 2.0 L OHV Engines (For diagrams e-mail me: LanceRViolator@aol.com) <From a Chilton's> ON Chevrolet V6 models the distributor body is involved in the engine lubrication system. The lubrication circuit to the right bank valve train can be interrupted by misalignment of the distributor body. (Know your firing order to have correct position)
The '87-92 Chevy built 4 cyl 2.0: & V6 2.8L engines do not have a distributor. (They are DIS)
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Tag and disconnect all wires leading from the distributor cap. 3. Remove the air cleaner housing as previously detailed. 4. Remove the distributor cap. 5. Disconnect the AIR pipe-to-exhaust manifold hose at the air management valve. 6. Unscrew the rear engine lift bracket bolt an nut, lift it off the stud and then position the entire assembly out of the way to facilitate better access to the distributor. 7. Mark the position of the distributor, relative to the engine block and then scribe a mark on the distributor body indication the initial position of the rotor. 8. Remove the holddown nut and clamp fro the base of the distributor. Remove the distributor from the engine. The drive gear on the distributor shaft is helical and the shaft will rotate slightly as the distributor is removed. Note and mark the posistion of the rotor at this secod position. Do not crank the engine while the distributor is removed. 9. To install the distributor, rotate the shaft until the rotor aligns with the second mark you made (when the shaft stoped moving). Lubricate the drive gear with clean engine oil and install the distributor into the engine. As the distributor is installed the rotor should move to the first mark that you made. This will ensure proper timing. If the marks do not align properly, remove the didtributor and try again. 10. Install the clamp and holddown nut.
--> You may wish to use a magnet attached to a extention bar to position the clamp on the stud.
11. Installation o fthe remaining components is in the reverse order of removal. Check the ignition timing.
1.8L and 2.0L OHC Engines ( For Diagram e-mail me)
1. Disconnect the battery ground 2. Mark the spark plug wires and remove the wires & coil. 3. Matchmark the position of the rotor, distributor body and cylinder head. 4. Disconnect the wiring from the distributor. 5. Remove the two distributor holddown nuts. 6. Remove the distributor. 7. Installation is the reverse of removal. Torque the holddown nuts to 13 ft. lbs.

An example would be the chromosomes of chimpanzees...or letter D. ;)
How do you take out the radio in your 1996 Geo przim?
The center area where all your dials for heat and rear defrost/hazard buttons are just pulls out.. its clipped in around the edges. once you pull that off unplug the wires to the two buttons and set it aside. Then its as easy as unbolting the radio and pulling it out!
